“We initially set out to give our kitchen a DIY refresh. With my husband’s background in architecture and mine in interior design, we had hoped we could execute it ourselves. But once we started drawing plans for the kitchen we truly wanted—something timeless, thoughtfully crafted, and fully aligned with both our functional and aesthetic goals—we realized our design needed the expertise of professional contractors to bring it to life. After completing much of the demolition, the project stalled for several months due to busy schedules. We ended up spending a chilly winter in a kitchen stripped down to the studs, with no insulation and no real plan for how to move forward. We felt stuck! That changed in January 2024, when we brought Shelly on board to help us get back on track. From the start, Shelly played a crucial role in driving the project forward. She incorporated our ever-developing design ideas into SketchUp renderings, and gathered cost estimates from fabricators which helped us prioritize where to invest. She also connected us with trusted vendors and contractors, and coordinated showroom visits so we could select our finishes, fixtures, and appliances. Her organization and follow-through kept us on a clear timeline, and ensured the project moved steadily through schematic design and into early design development. At that point, we were able to take back the reins and really make the project our own. Shelly kept herself available for questions, and even came back to see the finished product. “My husband and I hired Melody with Salazar Interiors in late spring of 2021. Five years ago, we gutted a 1990 home and totally remodeled it, but it was missing a personality. We needed a small amount of furniture, but mostly accessories and finishing touches. My husband and couldn’t agree on ANYTHING and had no idea where to begin to look, so we finally decided after 46 years of marriage that we would hire a designer or a referee! Besides dealing with two differing opinions, she dealt with a home that was structurally complete and mostly furnished with a long history of random furniture purchases. Working within the confines we presented her, we tasked her with bringing our past and future home together. Using a designer was very foreign to us, but she brought us along with her well established format. Following her lead, we found the financials and project scope very comfortable. After signing the contract, we moved through the process in a very timely manner. In 2021, we faced supply chain issues and potential price increases, but her experience within the business and with her vendors made us realize how glad we were that we weren’t out there on our own during this tumultuous time. She gave us very realistic and honest delivery and pricing information. She continues to follow up and keep us apprised of a couple (forewarned) late pieces. Not having to worry with these details were an additional perk of having a designer. Melody involved us completely in the decision making with the use of her interactive on-line design Board, providing us with enough, but not too many selections. Working with Melody on the Board we realized the knowledge and time she devoted to our project. Part of her magic was presenting enough selection to give us choice and direction, but not too much to be overwhelming. Our big “AHA” moment came mid-project when we realized that she “got us”, and that there were pieces out there we would have never discovered. As we moved through the process, she continued to monitor everything and make small changes that showed her pursuit for project perfection. We appreciated that Melody came in under budget and kept the financials very organized. We were very happy with the quality of her vendors and the selections she offered. In the time of Covid, it was great to make selections from my computer. Due to supply chain issues, our” REVEAL” was incremental, but she did put together a fun afternoon for us with most of the items. The real reveal came at Christmas when we were able to enjoy almost everything in full holiday style with our entire family.”
