My husband and I have known Michael Abrams for nearly ten years and we had always told him that when we settle down and find our dream home, we would want him to help us design and furnish it. Two years ago, that time finally came and we embarked on a journey that has culminated in transforming a beautiful historic property with great bones into a home that is perfectly adapted to our modern lives and tastes. Both my husband and I have limited free time and busy work schedules and the challenge of renovating and furnishing our home seemed extremely daunting with more decisions than either of us thought we could handle. Michael and his talented team alleviated our apprehension making the entire process an experience of joyful discovery and realization. They were able to help us define how we would use each room, develop a cohesive aesthetic and theme for the entire home and then craft each room to be unique yet harmonious within the character of the home. Throughout the process they provided us with unique design options for each room that made deciding between which one we liked best the most difficult aspect of the renovation. Like most clients, we were working within a budget, but had ambitious plans and wanted to touch the entire house as part of the renovation. The team at Michael Abrams Interiors have a gift for building rooms composed of both tailored and custom elements intermingled with more cost conscious pieces that combine to create a look that is luxurious throughout helping us stay within the budget parameters we had set. I have worked with my dear friend and designer for years. She chose to retire and lives in another state so recently I had been looking for a local designer - my style is a bit modern but with traditional warm tones. Never found a designer that seemed to fit...well until I came across Michael Abrams on a Hinsdale Kitchen Walk. I grabbed his card, met him briefly- then months later decided to reach out. I knew he did mostly large projects so was holding my breath hoping he would take on our home. It's "mostly" done but needs a bit of a refresh. I loved him immediately as well as his team. They are very professional but also are fun and light to work with. I love that they get me out of my "grey/beige" comfort zone. I can't say enough about them. They can actually walk into a room, take elements from another room and make them work and make the space brand new! I'm so glad I grabbed that card!

Where do I start? Fifteen years ago I met Michael in Chicago. We had just moved there from NY and had bought our first home in Lincoln Park. I was eager to decorate my home with the help of a professional. I interviewed several people, but the minute I met Michael I knew we would make magic together. And so we did! Today I live in Miami and we are currently in the process of decorating our third home with Michael. Needless to say, I reeeeeeeally enjoy working with him. Just like my family has grown, his business and his team has too. He has a fabulous group of woman all working together towards the same goal......to capture the essence of the client. Michael is one of a kind! Unlike many decorators, arquitects and interior designers, he understands that a home should tell the story of who the owners are. He has already done that for us three times. After living in Mexico, Paris, Madrid, San Francisco, D.C., NY, and Miami I leave you with a thought....There might be other arquitects and designers as qualified as Micheal, but I doubt that they will ever capture the essence of who you are while having fun and becoming friends. Oh! and how can I forget...... he is great at working within budget!:)

After many months of researching, my husband and I decided to meet with Michael and his team to begin the process of redesigning our entry way, living room and dining room. Of all the designers I looked into, I found Michael's work to be the most beautiful and timeless. I knew at our initial meeting that we made the right choice. Michael, Paulina and Andrea listened carefully to our wants and needs, asked all the right questions, and took the time to learn what we desired in color, design and functionality. The process of designing rooms seemed overwhelming to me at first, but Michael and his team turned it into a fun and exciting collaboration. My husband and I loved their ideas and selections so much that we expanded our project to include the family room and master bedroom. We appreciated not only the attention to design elements, but their careful attention to budget and timeline as well. We had complete trust in Michael and his team and they not only met our expectations, they far exceeded them. We can't thank you enough...we love our home!!!

We hired MIchael Abrams Limited for our second engagement, they previously built out our high rise condo from developer white. For the second engagement we did window treatments, custom furniture, artwork and redid a powder room. Michael and his company were extremely professional, knowledgeable and timely along with exercising budgetary compliance. They were very helpful in selecting options for us to consider and exhibited tremendous enthusiasm for the job and are extremely responsive. We live in a relatively high end building that has the potential to be difficult to work with and Michael Abrams Limited synced perfectly with our demanding building and the rules around it. Michael and his group took care of everything and as pet owners we absolutely did not want our pets disturbed and they worked around them perfectly. I could not be more pleased with our experience and the quality of our work. We will absolutely hire Michael again in the future.

Working with Michael started off great. He took us as a client when business was a little slower. We agreed on whole house cost for consultation for designing of our new home. We had told him we will not be doing any post furnishings with him as of yet. We would just need him to consult with us and help us through every stage of the building process of our new home. We paid him a per month fee in the beginning even in some months when no help was needed. As everyone knows, building always turns out longer then expected. We ran into some bumps and bruises during the building process so our project time took longer then expected. Towards the middle to end, when the TRUE designer consultation was needed, 1 week before paint choices, Michael emailed us and said he no longer has time for our project because he was too busy. This also happen to be right when we got to the full amount of the contract. Again, the contract said he had to help us with the whole home for a specified amount of money. Instead he collected the specified amount on money, ( a lot in the beginning when there was not much designing going on), and left us out to dry when it came down to pick the important stuff like painting, countertops, hardware. Like most homes, building takes time, and is very nerve racking for the owners. I did not at all appreciate being abandoned without any kind of warning. Michael chose to take a job where he was probably making more money and discarded our contract with our home unfinished, the instant he was paid in full. It was highly unprofessional and I would think twice and make sure you work out your payment plans with him before hiring his company for help. He was mostly very nice until he sprung the shocking news to us.

It is interesting how people recall a sequence of events. Nirav and Deepa Jain are a lovely young couple and I found their energy and excitement in building a new home to be inspiring. They are creative thinkers and passionate about interior design.

Despite what the Jains claim they never did sign the contract presented outlining my terms, but did agree to pay me a monthly consulting fee on what they believed would be the project duration. I was not concerned that we did not have a signed agreement because we were basically working on a monthly consulting basis; however I would never had proceeded with any purchasing. The timeline significantly extended beyond the projected completion date due to long periods of no activity on the client's part. While I was willing to work on a start - stop basis and have my monthly fee suspended periodically because the project was on hold; I was not willing to allow my designs be implemented by unknown workrooms that the client wanted me to use.

The Jains suggested I use materials they could purchase directly from India at a deeply discounted price. Again, this is not my business practice but I agreed to have them show me options to see if we could find a way to work with them and after a few rounds of searching we did find one that could work for window treatment fabric. I had felt we reached a final disconnect when Nirav then insisted on having the window treatments fabricated by a work room of a family friend.

As a designer it is imperative that the end result is a reflection of the quality I consistently provide. In severely limiting my options of materials and then insisting I work with a family friend after providing estimates was the last red flag that I no longer wanted my name associated with work I could not control.

I can't say enough great things about Michael Abrams and his team. They are by far the most organized, prompt, professional and of course talented group of people I have ever worked with. My husband and I are busy professionals who live in Seattle, so coordinating everything sounded like it would be a huge challenge. But Michael and his team are so efficient and detail oriented that even our distance hasn't been an issue. I highly recommend him. I have never been happier with how my home is coming together.
