Ann Maguire Design

Ann skillfully led us through a three bathroom renovation project which included two guts and one cosmetic update. She brought a strong understanding of space and scale to creatively update our small spaces making them feel larger, work more efficiently and look modern and in keeping with the style of our mid-century modern home. She listened to our initial vision and ongoing feedback and responded thoughtfully by presenting us with a variety of layouts and finishes making each space unique but cohesive. She worked well with our contractor, brought her own vendors to the project and was able to trouble shoot issues along the way. My family enjoys our new spaces every day and we are thankful for Ann's guidance that made it all happen.

We engaged Ann Maguire to design the renovation of our 1997 era kitchen/pantry and powder room and to plan makeovers for several rooms including 2 offices, family room, dining room, foyer and primary bed room. It was a gut renovation of the kitchen, pantry and powder room and the refreshes included paint, floor re-finishing, carpet, stair runner, wallpaper, fixtures and furniture. Our project was completed in April of 2023 and we couldn't be happier! Ann expertly guided us through the process and we appreciated her patience working with "first timers" in renovation projects. Ann listen carefully, picking up and understanding our tastes and the result was a design that united our visions into a cohesive plan that maximized our space. For our kitchen, she creatively added a buffet and beverage center with some reconfiguration and this solved the many complaints we had with our original kitchen and yet never occurred to us! Our kitchen seems much larger. When we were overwhelmed, she presented us with a curated set of options which made our decisions manageable. When we were second guessing anything, Ann gave us confidence in our decisions. We need to also note that there was excellent collaboration between Ann and our GC and we have referred both of them many times. We had a smooth project from planning to the final touches. Ann was lovely to work with and produced outstanding results.

It has been such a pleasure working with Ann. She did an excellent job understanding the constraints of the project along what we wanted to achieve. With good use of color, space, and design, Ann managed to create an appropriate kitchen for our home while keeping it warm and inviting, even fitting in an island with plenty of room when we were skeptical it could be done. The feature hutch wall she designed is a showstopper with great balance and detail. Ann pushed us on the 2-tone cabinetry, and it ended up making the space – a great highlight along with the tile backsplash and the gorgeous marble counters. Ann has a great design sense, is highly professional, and is very easy to work with. We couldn’t be happier with our project!

I recently had the pleasure of working with Ann on the redesign and complete remodel of my primary bathroom. This was a project that I had wanted to do for many years so I had some pre-existing ideas of what I needed as far as functionality and aesthetic. From the first time that Ann came to my house to look at the existing bathroom, she had innovative suggestions to open up the space and maximize the beauty of existing architectural features in the room. Her creative thinking opened up possibilities that I had never considered. She also gently nudged me out of my comfort zone while listening to my ideas. She never pushed any particular choices on me, but guided me with her experience and design sensibility. She was spot on. She even found the crown jewel for over my tub—a natural crystal chandelier that provides the finishing touch! Ann also recommended the contractor that I ultimately chose to complete the job. Their working relationship added to the ease of doing a project of this magnitude as I worked from home throughout the duration of the remodel. Ann’s professionalism and that of every single subcontractor made what could have been a very stressful time, a pleasurable experience. Ann is down-to-earth and has a great sense of humor that makes it easy to work with her. She was responsive to any questions or concerns along the way. I even roped her into assisting with a few cosmetic tweaks for another bathroom. I highly recommend Ann for your bathroom or kitchen design project. I promise it will be the best decision you make!

Ann was our designer for our kitchen remodel project. She is the consummate professional. She saved us a lot of time, helped us narrow down our options while staying true to the master design we finalized on. Ann strikes the right balance of pushing us on design choices she believes strongly in and our need for on time on budget. There were wrinkles along the way, as all projects do and especially in a covid pandemic year, and Ann was always there to answer questions and offer solutions and see us through the problems with various contractors. Our kitchen is transformed, looking fabulous, and is reflective of our style and sensibilities. We couldn't have done it without Ann. We worked with Ann on two projects: A master bedroom redo, and a first floor family room/partial kitchen redo. We are so, so pleased with the final results. It’s like having a new house! Ann is an absolute pleasure to work with, she makes everything enjoyable. She has excellent taste, and has a keen understanding of your own style and project goals. I love how Ann is willing to work with retail stores, and doesn’t just run you to the design center for everything (with the costs attendant to that). Ann is a pleasure to work with on a big project because she is very positive, warm and funny. I’m very pleased with the end result of my kitchen and bath project. Ann was very receptive to my vision for my kitchen even when it wasn’t her first suggestion, but she also gentle guided me to accept her suggestions over my own inclinations in a few areas and I’m very glad that she did. We hired Ann to help design our addition and renovation on our 1900s home. This included a new kitchen and dining area, a mudroom, and a master suite. Ann simplified the process for us, which would have been overwhelming otherwise. Ann was involved when we started the process and gave feedback to the architect on the initial plans. This helped strengthen the plans. She worked well with our contractor and gave valuable input to overcome some construction limitations. Ann also has great connections to local trusted vendors. She is a very practical designer who helped us create designs that fit our life with 3 young children. While Ann helped us design for the present, she also helped create a vision for the future as our family evolves. Her design choices stayed true to the historic nature of our home while also feeling fresh. We are thrilled with our final result.

Ann provided excellent design services during our kitchen renovation. During the project we used Ann’s experience in choosing countertop and back splash materials as well as cabinet colors. Ann also recommended paint colors to change the look and feel of our first floor living space. We are thrilled with the outcome!

Ann is the consummate professional. She is easy to communicate with and readily available to answer any questions you may have. We renovated our entire first floor, adding a bathroom, mudroom, and extension to our living and kitchen areas. We also reworked an existing area into a pantry/laundry room and installed an entirely new kitchen. Taking on a project so large is daunting and having Ann to help make decisions has been life-saving! She helped with floor plan layout, cabinet design, paint colors, countertops, wall tile and backsplash, flooring, etc. Most importantly, she was aware of budget restrictions and found materials that are beautiful to fit within our constraints. When we hired Ann for our kitchen renovation we had already started the renovation process with another design build firm, and after feeling like we weren't getting what we needed, we decided to hire a contractor and a designer separately so we could get the most out of our money and find someone who would listen us and keep our style at the forefront, while also providing a few unique ideas for our kitchen. Ann was a pleasure to work with throughout the entire process. She was organized and on-time with her design ideas. While we had a basic layout in mind, she brought a few new ideas that really elevated the space. She worked well with our contractor and made that process much easier on us. Where we really saw value from Ann was helping us bring our whole vision together. We collaborated closely when it came to choosing colors, finishes, lighting, and other details. She brought us new ideas we hadn't thought of, and was always gracious if we didn't choose her recommendation (though most of the times we did!). We were very involved in the design process, but I have no doubt that someone who would like to be less involved would benefit from Ann's eye and design expertise. She also helped us understand where we'd get the most value for our money -- where it was worth a splurge. Lastly, Ann kept us on track with decisions and helped us understand what our other vendors might need to know, especially when it came to cabinet design. Overall we are thrilled with our kitchen and would absolutely recommend Ann!

We had a really unusable and small kitchen space that didn't fit into any standard kitchen layout and didn't have many options for knocking down walls to generate a space that made sense. We hired Ann to help us figure out a way and she exceeded all of our expectations. She came up with an incredibly creative way to divide up our small kitchen space, giving us great kitchen flow with an island and a powder room, which was one of our important goals. I am a very demanding client. I expect a project will be well designed and managed. I expect competency. I expect attention to detail. Ann Maguire Design met and then exceeded my expectations for a bathroom gut job. The end result is an exciting and comfortable bathroom that suits our 1852 antique, small Victorian house. This was not an easy job. Ann Maguire Design had to work with limited space and a difficult Mansard roof line. Ann Maguire Design carefully put together the plan, presented a color scheme and recommended material options based on my request for a low or no maintenance bathroom. We hired Ann Maguire Design to help with finishing touches around the house before our second child was born. We were under the a strict 9 month deadline and wanted to complete home projects such as window treatments for various rooms as well as design a nursery in our home. Ann has an amazing eye and was able to find beautiful fabrics, rugs and light fixtures that didn't break our budget. I was very impressed with all that she could accomplish in such a short period of time.

Thank you Ann Maguire for converting the upstairs of our barn/garage into a wonderful executive office, a welcoming family game room on cold winter days, and a retreat where the 'manly men' of the neighborhood can gather to think great thoughts, watch rugby and sample single malt. From designing the floor plan, to working with the contractor, to picking out the TV model, Ann was the key ingredient in every decision.

Ann is a talented, thoughtful designer and a pleasure to work with. She has great ideas but is also a good listener. She last worked on a master bedroom "face lift" for us, including a vastly redesigned walk-in closet, and the outcome was just what I had hoped for (but couldn't visualize on my own). She has excellent insight and taste! Recently, we have begun working together again on a mantle redesign and a significant project at our lake house. She comes prepared but is versatile and open to new ideas. Her attention to detail, excellent "eye," honesty, and easy-going nature make her a pleasure to work with on projects large and small!

My husband and I hired Ann to help with our second floor house renovations. Ann was by far the best decision we made in the process. She is very thorough and fair in her assessment of the project and when we went slightly over her estimated billable hours she let us know ahead of time as to not be surprised but it was well worth it. She was a lifesaver every step of the way. She worked very well with our hired contractor and counter parties. She went and gathered all the samples for flooring, tiles, vanity, and paint. That in itself was a tremendous help. The details of the design are what overwhelmed me and Ann was able to narrow down the samples based on my tastes. I shared with her my pinterest page and I have to say my bathroom is a perfect combination of all my pins. She is the expert and her experience is exactly what you need when undertaking a major project such as ours. Without her, our bathroom and extended renovations would not be as beautiful as they are today! We are thankful everyday for Ann as we enjoy our updated home and appreciate every detail.
