Sarah Boyle did an outstanding job for us in the design for the remodeling of our home in Pacific Grove, California. Early on, we decided to pretty much gut the 1970-built home we had purchased, and Sarah guided us smoothly through the design process, adding great technical and artistic value through the six month renovation. Her work was particularly effective in designing our new modern open-concept kitchen and the three bathrooms that we completely rebuilt. With great attention to detail, Sarah worked collaboratively with our general contractor, providing design specifications and assisting in delivery of all the project's phases. She helped to recommend excellent suppliers for our new appliances, custom cabinetry, custom fireplace mantel and floor and wall tile--always guiding us to decisions we have been extremely pleased with. The project was completed in July of 2017, and the results have far exceed our expectations. Sarah was great to work with--a partner and friend--and we would recommend her without reservation to anyone considering a Monterey Peninsula remodel.

I have 35 years experience in commercial/industrial real estate in which I have negotiated literally thousands of leases, many of which have involved building out or modifying office space. However, when my wife and I bought a house in the Monterey area, we found ourselves in a new area far away from my usual network of experts. After hiring a construction company with design capabilities, we parted company when they couldn't produce drawings on a timely basis. Frustrated by the months I had wasted, I asked my realtor for a recommendation on a design professional and my luck changed as she suggested I contact Sarah Boyle. Sarah is a gifted design professional who was able to take a convoluted space like ours and transform it into a well-thought-out design that has turned out so fantastic my wife and I can hardly believe we get to live here. There are so many things to like about Sarah that it's hard to know where to start but let me try: 1. She has a knack for seeing a good design possibilities in funky existing floor plans like we had 2. She is punctual and time sensitive. If Sarah gives you a time frame when she is going to deliver something to you as a customer, she comes through. In a world of flakey contractors and consultants, this is much appreciated! 3. Her designs are practical but good-looking. One of the knocks on architects is that they tend to draw up plans with lots of fine but expensive details: arcs, funny angles, etc. Sarah has done a lot of home remodeling work and her designs are done with construction cost in mind. 4. She helps her customers with selection of construction details and colors. Instead of presenting us with a rainbow of colors, Sarah presented us three or four colors which made decisions much easier. And, honestly, any of the choices she presented would have been good options for us. By the time our renovation was complete, we probably had three or four dozen decisions that needed to be made; Sarah's distillation of options to three or maybe four greatly simplified the process as she helped guide us to a good outcome. 5. Sarah was instrumental in keeping the contractors on task. This is not to be underestimated! I told her at the start of the job that in all probability, this renovation would be the only job I would be undertaking in Monterey County such that I would not have much sway with contractors who could have easily regarded me as a "one and done" customer. On the other hand, Sarah is in the market every week and she made sure the contractors know that her personal reputation was on the line with their performance on our house and warned them not to disappoint her--or face the consequences in the future in withholding her recommendation on using them on future jobs. We did have a great contractor but Sarah did a wonderful job keeping them on task and on time. 6. Sarah's services are relatively inexpensive compared to the value received and the best bargain a homeowner undertaking a renovation can invest in. Sure, you can probably get a contractor to draw your renovation plans "for free" but then you are tied into using that contractor whereas with Sarah, she will help you get bids from qualified contractors. 7. Sarah's drawings are well-regarded by the City Planning & Building Departments. It is not uncommon for municipalities to take up to eight weeks to issue permits. However, Sarah has served in the past on the local Design Review Board and intimately familiar with all the rules and regs. Instead of getting permits in eight weeks, we got ours in about two weeks. That's the equivalent of saving a 1.5 mortgage payments. 8. Finally, Sarah is triple nice and a genuinely good person. She is easy to work with and has a great sense of humor. In short, I think the single best thing you as a homeowner who is contemplating a renovation is to hire Sarah to help guide you through the maze.

While planning a huge kitchen project (that included moving where the kitchen would be in the house) my husband and I consulted with Sarah. She was very knowable about kitchens. She brought up lots of things to consider that would not have occurred to us otherwise. Sarah really thinks about function as well as aesthetics, resale values and construction costs... she even told us a few feng shui tips! She's a big picture thinker and I'm glad we had her consult on our project. I think brining Sarah on the project SAVED us money in the long run.

She was always available for my questions, understood exactly what I was looking for, and knew how to get my project done quickly and correctly.
