About Us

Claudia E. Kazachinsky founded CEK Design Inc. in 1995 after more than 10 years experience with a national corporation specializing in high-end interior design. Claudia brings a varied background to her business. A native of Brazil, she moved to Israel when she was 12. She studied design and art history at Tel Aviv University and pursued a career in set design before coming to the United States. Claudia continued her design studies at UCLA and studied architecture at Cal Poly. Although Claudia has focused her efforts in South Bay communities such as Manhattan Beach, Redondo Beach, Hermosa Beach, Palos Verdes and Rolling Hills, she has designed homes all over Southern California, including Century City, Hancock Park, Sherman Oaks, Santa Monica, Westwood, Beverly Hills, Irvine, Coto de Caza, and Palm Desert. Her out-of-state projects have taken her as far as Westport, CT, Park City, UT and Seattle, WA. Claudia is widely known for her sophisticated and inventive approach to interior design, her keen eye and impeccable taste, as well as her organizational skills and attention to detail. Claudia is a certified interior designer and a member of several organizations, including Manhattan Beach Chamber of Commerce and Sandpipers, a local non-profit charity group. CEK Design, Inc. is a full-service interior design firm offering a wide variety of services, from a simple color consultation to large remodeling projects. Claudia says that her goal is to help her clients “refine their style and define their taste” in creating a look that truly reflects their individuality. Claudia lives in the South Bay with her husband, Richard Sherer. Along with her passion for design, Claudia’s other interests are good literature, innovative theatre and travelling to exotic places. In her spare time she enjoys painting.

Sandi Hayase

Claudia was the designer for my kitchen/family room remodel 10 years ago. I wouldn't have considered anyone else when we decided to remodel our master bath. For both remodel projects, my husband and I had strong opinions about what we wanted as an outcome. Claudia listened to us, made suggestions, did the research, followed through on the decisions and the results are exactly what we wanted. Claudia is a true professional, took care of any issues that arose and made the project fun. I am a CEK Design fan.

We had a great experience with Claudia on our bathroom remodel and dining room redesign. She provided us sketches for layout options in the baths which optimized the space well. She brought us tile samples which fit our taste and recommended all of our fixtures. Claudia also recommended contractors for a custom vanity, shower glass and granite fabrication. We're very pleased with the finished product!

Claudia did a great job for us! We renovated our kitchen, a bathroom, and a lot of random space beyond that. Also did interior paint and floors throughout. It turned out really great! Claudia walked us through the process, helped us Souter the materials and appliances, and addressed all the questions we had. It was a very good experience. And she works fast! Thanks Claudia!

We had a small job of redoing our family room and breakfast room. Claudia helped pick the furniture, but more important she made suggestions about items like lighting. I felt this was acomplished with a minimum of shopping, hooray. She was able to listen to what we thought we wanted, then send photos and prices for rugs, lamps. We did go to pick out the couch, tables, large items. And I was able to select fabulous materials for throw pillows. These changes in our home have made a world of difference. And we never could have been exposed to all the selections without someone of her experience. In addition she was always on top of appointments, and each workman who was scheduled arrived promptly and conducted the work efficiently. We are very grateful for Claudia's assistance.

Claudia did a great job of getting to know my wife's and my personal taste. We wanted our beach house to feel finished and functional, but not overly formal. Claudia dove in and helped us make decisions quickly and painlessly. Before we knew it our house was transformed. And when the down pillows we mistakenly selected for our custom sectional started getting squished (we should have known better), Claudia took care of it and changed them out for us at no additional charge.

I love design and have pretty clear ideas about what I like, and don't like, but I needed a designer to help bring my ideas and concepts to a conhesive result. Enter Claudia. I called upon Claudia to help me with my master, and guest bedrooms, power room, living room and dinning room design. Claudia is a true professional. She is an excellent communication so there is never any wondering, when, what, why, how, or who. She is always on time, efficient, detail oriented, client centered, and results focused. She listened well to understand my design aesthetic, tastes, wants, and needs. She then helped me navigate through the myriad of options in terms of finishes, colors, materials, fabrics, and styles. She has an eye for scale and texture, plus a fantastic "color" eye. She knows and works with really talented carpenters, custom painters, and wall hanging professionals. She makes you feel like you are her one-and-only client, and her most important client always! She is not happy unless you the client are happy. I am completely satisfied with my decision to work with Claudia such that I have since decided to expanded my design project to include work in Claudia on nearly every room in the house.

Claudia was a life saver in helping with my home remodel. I bought a home built in the 2007 which had the heavy "Mediterranean" feel which we wanted to completely get rid of. Being my first home construction experience I had no idea what I was getting into. I feel fortunate that I found Claudia who is not just a designer that helps you with home decor but also a professional who has extensive experience with construction and remodel. There was no question that she did not have a great answer for and was always willing to speak directly with the contractors, etc to help make translation and decision making easier.... and she referred a great contractor and top notch painter who she trusts will do great work. Claudia will work with you in any way that you feel appropriate whether it be managing the whole job or simply guiding you through the process as you do the work on your own. She is accessible, flexible, fair, quick to act , direct, and has a great eye for color, design and overall feel. Don't get stuck working through some designers assistant when you have a question or need to set up a meeting get 1:1 attention and responsiveness and go with Claudia, you will not be dissapointed.

Although I had my own ideas, I didn't know how to bring them to life. Just by describing them to Claudia at CEK Design Inc., she knew exactly what we wanted, even adding her own creative suggestions. The most difficult part for us was having to downsize and this is where the expertise of Claudia helped us to declutter, organize and mingle our heirloom pieces with a modern sophistication. We have been truly blessed having met Claudia through HOUZZ and fortunate that she had remodeled a condo located in our new complex for us to view. From the onset, she was able to bring us comfort and tranquility during this hectic time. Her universal personality has allowed us to enter our retirement with a new friendship.
