Cynthia J. Hoffman, ASID creates sanctuaries for the modern being. What shapes the spaces we design could be considered design alchemy with the catalyst being the client's aspirations. Heartland Stairways

We recently worked with Cynthia on a relatively complex renovation project. The existing conditions presented some challenges but Cynthia's attention to detail and design prowess resulted in a beautiful and one-of-a-kind project. She was able to envision an awesome stair design that tied in perfectly with an amazing kitchen and living area and provided the homeowners with a show place that very tastefully reflected their own unique design preferences. A pleasure to work with and highly recommend!

We highly recommend Cynthia J. Hoffman Interior Design. We worked with Cynthia and her team to update our kitchen and eating area. They helped us choose a counter top, back splash tile, cabinets and cabinet hardware, paint color, wallpaper, plumbing fixtures and lighting. We were given several options for each aspect of the remodeling. Cynthia arranged all the contractors and met with them at our home to procure estimates. Every detail was considered. The workmanship and materials were all very high quality. Cynthia had wonderful ideas, always keeping in mind our tastes and working within our budget. The work was completed in a timely manner. Cynthia and her team were kind, professional and very helpful. They were with us every step of the way. It was a great experience. We love our new kitchen!

In an industry crowded with sub par reproductions and tired old ideas Cynthia Hoffman was a glimmering beacon of hope. With forty plus years of experience behind her she's at the top of her field. Brimming with creativity there wasn't an idea I had that she thought was too outrageous or wasn't able to pull off. ( i.e. the pink kitchen. Yes, she's reliable and professional and uncompromising when it comes to quality. She's also really kind and we had tons of fun together, an important quality when you're spending a year with someone!

We hired Cynthia because we had seen the work she had done for other family members and we loved what she designed for them. We wanted an updated, open space for our Kitchen and Dining Room which was built in the 60’s. She prepared 3-D renderings to illustrate how opening up the wall would give a much more spacious feel. Cynthia presented cabinet styles and layout, floor and backsplash tile, countertop and lighting options. The Dining Room design includes a build-in banquette. She also presented an update for our Powder Rom incorporating a sliding barn door to give space for a vanity. Several contractors met Cynthia at our house in order to prepare quotations for the work to be done. Cynthia did a great job taking into account our preferences and the design was exactly the look we wanted. We highly recommend her!

Cynthia has been invaluable working on many projects in my century home over the last 20 years. She was so delightful to work with. She magically came up with ideas and designs that we loved. She is outstanding in everything, from simple things like matching and choosing colors to designing full layouts. She started in my kitchen, worked through my bathrooms and family room, and ended in my solarium this year. She thought of all those pesky details I would have missed if I had tried it myself. I couldn’t have done it without her. She stayed within my budget. Things were done on time. A very caring professional.

I can't recommend Cynthia Hoffman highly enough! My entire family has used her on multiple occasions. First my mother some 30 years ago and again twice after. Cynthia has decorated my sister's home and has decorated three homes for me. Additionally, if you are looking for your place of business, she has decorated AND designed two restaurants for me. She has a great way of understanding your personal style and does not impose any other style on you. All contractors and professional that she uses are top notch as well. You can't go wrong!

Ifijen Oleghe

I would not recommend cynthia hoffman. Planned for basement to be finished. Contacted cynthia and we told her what our budget was $35,000 to $40,000. This was clearly communicated at our first meeting. We cointinued to plead that she let us have an idea how much this would cost so we could decide if we would go along with her or not but she just would not commit!! Not even a guesstimate. Felt that as a professional she could be trusted and would stay within our intended budget. Went ahead and signed a contract to engage her services. Non refundable sign of fee of $1500 paid as a check. Few days later comes in with a contractor to make initial assessments. Again asked for a guesstimate of how much this may cost. Still she would not say. Eventually comes up with an estimate of about $75,000. Must say at this point that the mistake my wife and I made was letting her know we were both physicians!! Big mistake!! We complained that this was way over our budget and then decided not to go ahead with her. She insisted that we pay for the time she spent planning for her work as stated in the contract signed. States she spent 30 hours doing this and charged us another $3000. Total paid for nothing done essentially $4,500. Cannot speak as to the quality of her work as we never went ahead with her but as to her ethics I have serious doubt. My recommendation would be to make sure she gives you an estimate before signing any contract. May be wise not to let her know what work you do as well. I am a very unhappy and disappointed customer.

Comment from Cynthia J. Hoffman Interior Design, Inc.:

While we strive for 100% client satisfaction sadly this was not the case for the Oleghe project. During our initial appointment the client asked if their 1400 sq. ft. basement could be completely finished for $25,000. - 30,000., not including furniture. The client was informed that once the space was designed and contractors quotes received they would be given a detailed quote for everything.
The scope of the project specified included: Flooring, Drywall, Lighting/Electrical, Plumbing/Plumbing Fixtures, Painting, Full Bathroom, Full Kitchen/Countertop/Appliances, Dining/Bar Area, Ping Pong Area, Playroom/Guest Area, Family Room/Seating for 10 people/TV Area.
The client was thrilled with the presentation which included floor plan, lighting diagram, elevations, 3-D color renderings showing suspended ceiling above seating area (see rendering below), cabinetry layout and design, fabrics and finishes. After the client's approval of the layout several contractors were engaged for quotations and a site visit was made. Once all estimates were received the client was given a complete quotation which included everything (including furniture: sectional, chairs, tables, lighting/sconces, children's tables/chairs/chalk board & seating, even the ping pong table).
Although the total quote was higher than the amount questioned for the finishing of the space it did include everything. The quote for construction/finishing without furniture was approximately $33,000. At this time we made many cost-cutting suggestions - proceed in stages, Kitchenette instead of full Kitchen, Powder Room instead of Full Bath, painting the block walls instead of paneling/drywall, etc. None of these options was acceptable to the client.
My philosophy is to present to the client everything they request. Our Letter of Agreement clearly states that if the project does not go forward the designer is to be compensated for design hours spent to create the project the client requested.
The client decided not proceed and in exchange for receipt of all construction drawings and 3-D renderings they agreed to pay for the design time invested in their project. Payment was received May, 2017.
These scale drawings, floor plans, reflected lighting plan would enable any contractor to finish the basement as designed.
While we endeavor to please all of our clients it is impossible to know the cost of a project before it is designed, approved by the client, and contractor's estimates procured.

We live in a 1500 sq ft condo in downtown Akron. I found Cynthia doing a search for interior decorators. Our expectation was to get recommendations, then go hire companies to do the work. What we didn't realize was that Cynthia would handle everything from start to finish. We would have never been able to complete the project without her guidance. What an amazing job! Her recommendations, visions and design are just the best!

I'm extremely grateful for my kitchen remodel designed and executed through Cynthia J. Hoffman Interior Design, Inc. Floor plans and elevations were drawn to allow for a much better layout of our Kitchen which included moving the locations of stove/venting, dishwasher and refrigerator. A table with banquette seating was created to allow for a view of patio and back gardens. CJH, Inc designed custom Bamboo cabinets with two full height pull-out pantries to maximize every inch of space, as well as the selection of all new appliances, Red Marmoleum flooring, Uba Tuba granite countertops, plumbing fixtures, glass mosaic backsplash tile and paint colors. A beautiful large scale paisley in Red/Green/Gold was the inspiration for the color palette. The electrical plan added under cabinet lighting, recessed and additional lighting fixtures in Kitchen and over banquette table. Cabinet maker, tile, flooring, electrical and plumbing contractors efficiently completed their tasks in a timely manner. Since our Powder Room flows off the Kitchen, we also decided to do a total remodel of this room and we couldn't be more pleased with the result. The custom designed Bamboo corner vanity supports a Red glass vessel sink with Snake motif and single control faucet. We used the same glass mosaic as backsplash tile. New lighting, Red Marmoleum tile flooring, mirrors, commode and paint colors completed our elegant Powder Room. In preparation for the complete remodel of our Kitchen, we were guided my CJH, Inc to utilize metal shelving units stationed in nearby Dining Room so we could stay very organized while undergoing the deconstruction/construction of the hearth of our home. I later used these good quality metal racks for basement storage.

Seeing the work that Cynthia J. Hoffman Interior Design, Inc. had done for other clients convinced me they were more than capable of completely gutting the kitchen of my Bath, Ohio house & designing an outstanding kitchen to my taste. The results were so fantastic that it was a joy to cook there. There was space for everything which kept it clean & neat that my friends asked if I still cooked. The project moved along smoothly & was completed in a reasonable time. It was a joy to work with CJHoffman Interior Design who gave me so many choices of surfaces & materials to choose from which I would never have considered. The kitchen became a fully functioning space. The rounded corners of the cabinets were custom made by Cynthia J. Hoffman Interior Design

I had the pleasure of working with Cynthia J Hoffman on our beach house project in Florida specifically on Sunset Key, a private island off Key West. In an instant I knew I had picked the right interior designer. We collaborated for almost three years during which time she demonstrated bountiful imagination, exquisite taste, and a refreshing eagerness to bring to fruition design ideas that were far from the norm on the island. She worked tirelessly with the builders leaving nothing to chance guaranteeing an end result that far exceeded our expectations! I remember when we finally got to enter our fully installed "Villa al Mare" in early 2008 uttering the words "did we really do this" for it was simply breathtaking! Indeed, it was a day that shall forever remain ingrained in my memory bank. Thus, my husband and I have no hesitation in recommending Cynthia J Hoffman.

I worked with Cynthia J. Hoffman Interior Design and her team to upgrade the design of my apartment. I appreciated the professional manner of the design group. Planning each room involved consideration of my desires but I was also exposed to designs that were tasteful and current. The attention to detail of the redone space and ultimate function are aspects of the team's approach that I appreciate daily as I live in my beautiful home. The projects began approximately in May, 2010 and we completed the last room by February of 2013. I directed the pace of the various design projects. I highly recommend this design group.
