Hi, I’m Kris Miller. I’ve been helping Austin-area homeowners and small businesses enhance their surroundings for over 20 years with Decorating Den Interiors. My approach is simple. I provide complete in-home decorating service and come to you. I couple design talent with a complete line of quality home décor products…from window treatments to furnishings, flooring to bedding, lighting to accessories. I’m also experienced at consulting on remodel & new home construction projects. I base my design philosophy on the principle of creating beautiful, livable interiors and striving to make home a haven. Rather than imposing my personal style on any client, I make every effort to listen and collaborate to arrive at the best design solution… one that reflects my client’s individual preferences, taste, and lifestyle. I graduated from the University of Texas with a Business Administration degree and built a career in human resources before pursuing a career in design. Given my assignments in employee relations and corporate recruiting, my listening skills are a strength. Clients frequently comment that my listening skills set me apart from other designers they've previously hired. During my time with Decorating Den, I've been invited to partner with clients on some amazing projects. Several jobs have been recognized and awarded in our firm's International Dream Room Design Contest, judged by editors from top home décor magazines. My work has been published in several of those trade magazines. But more important than awards or press, I enjoy an ever-growing list of happy clients that often become friends. When I’m not busy with my business, I enjoy life with my husband (Chris), our 15-year-old daughter (Kacy), and our rescue pup (Milk Dud). As a family, we like to travel (especially to beautiful beaches), stand-up-paddle, and play competitive volleyball. One of my favorite personal hobbies is yoga. I’ve lived in Austin for over 28 years and am actively involved in the community. I volunteer with the Capital Area Food Bank, Ronald McDonald House, & Bake A Wish Foundation. My clients bring me project in all shapes & sizes. I've learned over time that it typically takes $7500-$20,000 to completely decorate a room from top to bottom (including rugs, furniture, window treatments, lighting, accessories, & finishes). The investment is less if a client has key pieces, and we are not starting "from scratch". My hourly consultation fee is $130 per hour. Some or all fees may be waived when buying merchandise from my company.

I found myself getting married and moving into a nice home occupied for over 25 years by a man with completely different styles than I had - he is traditional and I am modern. He was a recent widower and I had been single many years, and we both had decor in our homes that we loved. But, some things had to go, and some things were "sacred pieces" that we just couldn't part with. Given our strong likes and dislikes, I decided to hire some help to help create a home that "flowed" with a merger of the two styles. Kris and I had a phone interview and she had some good suggestions on how to even get started. On Kris's first visit, we got a scope of work, as well as an understanding of our budget. First, we decided to change wall color to set the stage. She was very professional as she guided us through the choices, then she referred us to a team of painters that she typically works with. They were just wonderful!!! They were on time, did quality work, and left our home very clean and orderly each day. We then worked on new window coverings, dining chair reupholstery, bedroom soft goods updates, and a few design suggestions. Again, Kris's work teams did a wonderful job with time management, quality of work, and pricing. She did some periodic inspections to ensure they delivered a quality product. Everything looks really nice and has a nice flow to the color scheme we chose early on. All of that is just great, but what Kris really helped us with the most was getting two 70 year old newlyweds with strong opinions to work together patiently, respectfully, and compassionately to bring a new look into our home that reflects both of us. She was kind, honest, and direct when she needed for us to "hear" something. Bravo, Kris! Kris gave us the confidence we need to continue with our decorating over the next couple of years in a way that we could not have achieved without her "teaching moments' and we will be forever grateful as we continue to build our lives and our home together.

Working with Kris on our project to gut and redo our kitchen was such a joy. We hired Kris to work on a couple of smaller painting and window covering projects first to get a feel for her approach and then it was easy to choose her to guide us through this massive remodel. Everything from order of operations, to knowing great places to go to get quality pieces where we wanted them and cheaper prices where we wanted that. Kris was with us every step of the way, making sure we were able to navigate changes in designs or materials along the way with grace and poise. I absolutely LOVE my new kitchen, and Kris' eye for what would go with what and what would be too busy are huge reasons for why the end result is so great.

Kris accomplished what I thought was an impossible task. My husband and I decided to renovate and update the downstairs portion of our home - primary bedroom/bathroom, kitchen, den and living room. No small assignment, especially considering we have rather different styles. Kris was able to listen to both of us and come up with a plan showcasing both styles. She worked alongside our contractor, pushing gently when necessary. The finished product is perfect in all ways - warm and comfy with just enough funk. Recently we worked with Kris again for an upstairs refresh and bathroom remodel. She knew our vibe and worked quickly to gather together the needed supplies to ensure our contractor could finish up on schedule.

Simply put, in my opinion, she is the best. I have worked with several other interior decorators; all good but none compare to her. At every level and stage of the various projects, she was superb. From our initial phone call, I could tell that she was professional, a perfectionist, easy to chat with and had a level of attention to detail that was amazing. For all of the projects that she has done for me, everything was delivered and wrapped with a bow. Initial design/conception, back and forth iterations while always attentive to my tastes – she had a way of gently conforming my tastes to ultimately create a very stylish look for each room that she did. She also really knows her profession and runs a very organized ship when it comes to working with suppliers, flooring contractors –whomever. She just gets it all done and keeps you posted every step of the way so misunderstandings are never an issue. Kris Miller at Decorating Den Interiors corralled the conflicting requirements of me and my wife, and made them blossom into a bright new bedroom and reading room. Kris redesigned our room configuration and helped us find new furniture and accoutrements that meet our needs much better than what we had. Kris is easy to work with, and we enjoyed her fresh perspective. Her creative ideas resulted in a new room that we both enjoy every morning, day, and evening. We appreciated her patience and responsiveness as she taught us about different design options. I liked her process of listening to what we wanted, assessing the space, and then giving us a set of choices for room configurations and items to include. We also appreciated her advance notice of realistic timelines for deliveries from the manufacturer. Everything seemed to fall into place on time or earlier.

Kris is a dream to work with. I was intimidated to work with a designer, and I hired Kris because she asks good questions, listens, and explains things in a way that a non-decorator like me can easily understand. While she is refreshingly down to earth in her communication style, her fluency with design is very sophisticated. I have a definite esthetic point of view, and Kris was able to take my input and translate it into reality. She is a creative problem-solver and has a can-do attitude. At the same time, she communicated clearly, kindly, and respectfully about what could or could not be accomplished within my budget. She didn't push me to increase my budget, simply made sure that my expectations were realistic. In the end, the results are beautiful, exceeding expectations, and reflect my taste and my lifestyle. I have a small space and a relatively small budget, and I felt she treated my project with the same care, commitment, and attention to detail that she would bring to a larger project. Where do I begin with a review of Kris Miller, of Austin, Texas? I am on house # 2 with Kris now and she never fails to inspire and deliver. Kris has helped me with soft design elements and hard design element selections alike. She has helped me with furniture selections, furniture placement, rugs, wallpaper, lighting, color, paint, and fabrics, custom upholstery and drapery ... and all the finishing touches that make a room feel complete. Of course, Kris knows her craft. That goes without saying. She is also well-connected in the Austin design industry so when I need referrals and recommendations for GC's or other trade workers, she always seems to have a contact up her sleeve as well. But I think what I like most about Kris is she just "gets" me. She knows me, my people, and how we live. And because she pays attention to who we are -- us, as people -- it makes it really easy for her to help design the elements of our home in a way that works for us ... functionally, aesthetically, beautifully. This wasn't the usual designer project. I decided to DIY flip my Mother's condo, updating the 70's finishes in order to sell it. I needed a lot of help picking new kitchen counters and fixtures, new tile and fixtures for 3 bathrooms, interior paint over all, new lighting fixtures and engineered flooring. Kris was great. She would pick out several options for each selection (tile, faucets, etc.) and we would go over the options together. Everything she picked went well together and I think it will come together beautifully when it is finished. After everything was selected and ordered, she would continue to provide advice via email for all the small choices, i.e., should the floor tile pattern be diagonal or straight. Kris really helped to keep me from being overwhelmed by all the options available, and she worked within my budget. She was also very comfortable to work with and be around.

I have worked with Kris on multiple occasions over the past 6 years. She has helped me with wooden blinds and shutters, window treatments, re-upholestering an old chair, custom bedding and recommending an excellent painter (interior and exterior). She has always been very helpful in guiding me in color selection, showing me many options in multiple price ranges and never pressuring me into buying something I don't want or like. When I decided I didn't want custom bedding in a guest room, she honored my choice and was still more than eager in helping me decorate the room and pick the right colors and decor. When I had a plumbing disaster and several pieces of hardware were discarded accidentally, she immediately got new ones sent me to very quickly at no charge. I will continue to use Kris in the future for all my decorating needs!

Kris helped me a with a large drapery project that needed to be multi functional working to diffuse outside noise as well as bright sun from a conference room. She helped me select the perfect commercial grade material that met all safety codes, plus it looked great in the room with exposed metal beams and modern woodwork. Kris was a great partner and listened to what we had to say. She really understood how the room was to be used, and what we were trying to accomplish. She had great insights into functionality as well as good design ideas. Our project turned out great and we have received many compliments. We loved working with Kris.

Thank you so much for everything. When I started this project, I really didn’t have any idea of what I wanted nor would I have guessed the end result: a room both my husband and I enjoy very much. The room was dark & cramped with oversized furniture but is now open, bright, and inviting. You really incorporated the kitchen colors with a new palette for the living room, something that I could not envision nor would I have been able to do on my own. The process was pretty painless (except for the barstools!), and that is because of you and your keen sense of design made what I thought to be so challenging easy. I called on Kris to help with decorating my home after a remodel. She made a great selection of area rugs for me to choose from for almost all the rooms (we went from a carpeted upstairs to all wood flooring). She also helped with choosing locations for the various different kinds of wall art that we have. Our natural decorating default is neutral and Kris was able to help us break out of that into some more interesting and exciting decorating choices. We very much appreciated her advice. She was very professional. She took care of a few problems that came up. She came within the projected budget and met deadlines.

Kris Miller has helped me with numerous projects since we moved to Austin 4 years ago. She had great suggestions for blinds, fabrics and decorative valances. When we remodeled, she sat down with me to help narrow the Way-Too-Many options for re-doing our master bath and offered a variety of great suggestions. Kris made all my dreams come true!! When we were ready to re-do our living room/kitchen - I called Kris who had helped my Mom and came HIGHLY recommended to me. Kris patiently guided me through the process and addressed all of my concerns and desires with grace and confidence - which is what I needed!! She has wonderful ideas - but is also open to my thoughts - which were many at time - and she allowed me to feel like this was MY home and we were going through this as a team. Kris Miller of Decorating Den, came to my home asked me what it was that I would like to achieve in my project and what the budget was. We talked about which items I wanted to replace and which we'd like to use in the new design. She returned with several layouts to choose from and once we selected what we were interested in, she went away and put some design choices together : Rug, chairs, sofa, ottomans, wall color. She returned with those options to select from- we made decisions on items and fabrics - she made recommendations and we worked together to make final selections. She made it easy! She didn't push her ideas, but listened to my interests and delivered! Kris has a great eye for design and she is professional and fun. She managed the process well including keeping me informed and staying on time and on budget. I'm trilled with the results and would work with Kris again in a heartbeat! You should too!

I have done several projects with Kris now over the past few years. Before I found Kris I had interviewed a couple other designers and I did not feel as though it was a good fit. I called Kris, and we immediately connected over what I wanted and the durability needs of a family. Kris's work is in every room of our home. She took me beyond what I had expected and throughout the entire process she was very knowledgable with helping me create my dream home within my budget. We wouldn't change a thing. To this day I keep looking for projects around our home so I can contenue to work on with her. Kris is a fun, very honest, good listener and I will continue to recommend her to anyone looking. She pours her heart and soul into each project and delivers a perfectly beautiful design.

I have used her services for a number of decorating jobs in past years and the most recent one being a guest bath addition and master bath remodel, along with a master closet redesign in September 2015.
