About Us

As an Interior Designer, Douglas Dolezal has had the privilege of transforming homes and creating beautiful spaces for clients since 1992. Working with some of the best architects and tradespeople in the industry his natural eye for scale and talent for the use of color enables him to transform homeowners’ visions into personal, functional and beautiful rooms. Key to his process is developing a collaborative relationship between architecture and furniture, function and form, client and designer.

I have worked with quite a number of designers over the years, and have found Doug Dolezal to be extremely talented. His design sense is highly original. He has a unique "eye" for capturing beauty in color, textures, lighting and spatial arrangements. And he's easy to work with, no doubt due to his commitment to service. Doug has enhanced our lifestyle in a warm inviting manner! Our outdoor garden gazebo's, rose gardens, pool cabana and fabulous outdoor kitchen and patio area are Incredible. As well, as a fun new Man Cave including office,sitting room and game room. We are thrilled with the transformation. Love Him!

Doug Dolezal designed our house from complete remodel to final finishings and art. He has an exceptional vision for the function and flow of a home and designs with kids, dogs and parties in mind. He is very talented with color and a keen eye for detail and functional elegance. After several years in our home, there are many details that I appreciate daily including our kitchen banquette, working back kitchen, cherry library, comfortable home theatre, and elegant home office. His attention to detail is unmatched as he works to bring about timeless design. I highly recommend Doug as he simplifies the whole process and really listens to his client's taste and lifestyle.

I LOVED working with Doug at Dolezal Design on my remodel and was thrilled with the outcome. Doug has a phenomenal sense of style and incredible resources. He transformed my very outdated 1970's kitchen into a modern, ranch-style gathering spot. Since we weren't remodeling the entire house he had to work with and enhance the existing style of the house instead of change it. I wouldn't have known how to do it without him and his practical suggestions. I was on a budget and he was tremendous in giving me guidance on where to splurge (a gorgeous chocolate brown Viking range that serves as a center piece in the room) and where to save (refurbishing an existing island by polishing the old wood and replacing the hinges and handles with antique brass hardware). He was able to freshen up the house with a few small projects like replacing the mantle piece and adding wall paper on one wall. He was a joy to work with and I highly recommend him.

I have admired Doug's work in many of the homes and estates. I noticed that he was one of the few designers that had the keen ability to pick up on a client's own individual style, so that their home was a true reflection of what they wanted; rather, than the designer forcing their own style on the client. His talent is truly beyond compare and I called him to help with my own home. He helped guide me to find the perfect style for the home and turned each space into a treasure. He is a true artist and his talent is in both interior design and gardens. Doug is a genius and if you are looking for someone that will turn your home into a timeless treasure then you need not go anywhere else!

We have worked with Doug Dolezal for almost 20 years on three homes (including a rebuilt second home). In short, we would not make a design decision without Doug. His taste is impeccable. Yet, importantly, he takes into consideration our own tastes so that the end result is both beautiful and consistent with our preferences and lifestyle. He is often visionary, suggesting bold, transformational changes. And his "hit rate" has been 100%. In addition, Doug is an absolute pleasure to work with - he has really become part of the family. We would not think of using another designer and would recommend him without qualification. I would note, finally, that we consult with Doug not only on interior design matters but on landscaping and yard-design questions. He brings tremendous value to all design issues.

I have worked with Dolezal Design on several projects including the redesign of my 7,000 sq. foot home and the design of a 4,000 sq. foot commercial space. In all of the projects Doug has provided invaluable input. He has an intuitive sense of what works both functionally and visually. His designs are as much about his client’s personality and needs as they are about what is classic and enduring. We get so many complements on our home about how clearly it reflects who we, the homeowners, are. Doug works respectfully with the other professionals on the job (architects, landscape designers and other contractors), being punctual and providing extremely useful advice in all aspects of the project. Doug stayed within our budget and integrated pieces that we already owned into the project. I highly recommend Dolezal Design whether your needs are small or grand. We moved from Maryland to La Jolla with antique furniture, paintings, and art objects, among which was an 18-century French 8-panel screen. Doug was inspired to use the colors of the screen for fabrics in the living room and dining room. The drapery fabrics he chose added warmth and vital beauty to the rooms. He designed some living room furniture and provided rugs and tables. He had sectioned shelves built at 1 end of the living room to hold the art objects, built bookcases, discreet storage spaces in den, bedrooms, and living room. Then he hung pictures and placed art in a beautiful way. He has a great gift. People who come to our home say it's the most beautiful they've seen. It was a joy to work with Doug and his talented people. Deadlines and budget were met as expected. All was submitted for our approval. Our home is a beautiful, peaceful place. He also provided beautiful, comfortable garden furniture.

If it weren’t for Doug’s vision we wouldn’t have the home of our dreams! From ceiling to floor he created a wonderful space for us. Our plan was to replace the existing cabinetry in our kitchen, put leave the layout as is. Doug, created, planned and executed a new and wonderful, modern and open kitchen for us that far exceeded our expectations, yet kept us right on budget. From custom built-in bookcase design to furniture and fabric specification, his eye for detail is outstanding. Doug worked seamlessly with all of our subcontractors and my husband and I have never laughed or enjoyed a project more. When Doug walked into our place it was a house-he helped us make it a home.
