I have found after working with Fannie on several projects to be an original and very creative designer. I recently began a collaboration with Fannie on some items for herself. Her use of bringing together many separate elements such as fabric, rope trim, brush fringe, gimp, and tape trim with native Mola embroidered fabrics produced some very creative and unusually beautiful pillows. Fannie has an amazing sense of color combined with a hint of whimsy that makes her rooms stand out. While portraying a clients vision for their home, she skillfully plays off their existing artwork and furniture while adding in the right new pieces, colors and accessories that tie it all together. She is organized and thoughtful in her planning which makes a project flow smoothly, clear on her vision so we can productively collaborate. I have worked with Fannie Allen on two houses in Berkeley, over the course of 10 years. She provided inspiration and guidance to me throughout the projects. She is a very good listener and helped to hone our desires for our house and incorporate her sophisticated looks. The first was a small job, just the living room of our house in the Berkeley Hills. She totally got the feeling of the style of the house (a spanish mediterranean) and brought in elegance and a worldly aesthetic to the room. We were so happy and comfortable in that room! The next was a much bigger project--a larger house with an entirely different feel to it (Italianate, 1920's). She did our living room, dining room and den--all flowed beautifully together with gorgeous color, interesting objects and artwork, and elegant fabrics and furnishings. She lead us expertly and presented choices that helped to keep me involved and feeling that our ideas and needs were valued. The next was the kitchen and eating areas--again she chose colors and fabrics and stone that brought it all together with a freshness to it, yet managed to keep a classic look that will never go out of style. I would highly recommend Fannie Allen to design anything--from a country house, to a city apartment, to a suburban home. She is incredibly detail oriented and thorough, knowledgeable about codes and permits, timelines and budgets. Her designs are dynamic and gorgeous, I trust her implicitly, and she is a delight to work with!

We fell in love with our home because of the work Fannie Allen had done for the previous owners. Her use of paint color, hardware and lighting gave the house a wonderful sense of whimsical lightness and high interest. Even empty, each room had something inspired about it. We decided to hire Fannie so that our furnishings would be equally inspired. Now, after having worked with Fannie, I walk through my home and love every room. Thanks to her eye for detail and big picture perspective not one penny was wasted, and every purchase was interesting and just what I wanted. Fannie has a great combination of talent and knowledge. She has an impeccable sense of color, texture, shape and space. Her way of putting together a room utilizing vintage, new and custom pieces is flawless. Additionally, her eye for art brings everything together. Put those talents along side her expansive knowledge of vendors, artisans, contractors, textiles, artists and art history and you've got a designer who can do it all. Working with Fannie was an absolute pleasure. She knows her business through and through. Each meeting was productive and well-prepared for. I couldn't have asked for more in terms of ease of communication, and I can't think of one instance when she didn't follow through or follow up on something. She has an eye for detail in terms of design and in regard to the nuts and bolts of a project. From the type of corner on a pillow, to the length the curtains, to the construction of the sofa she designed for us, to the assembly of our Lindsey Adelman chandelier, to the delivery of our Fermob and Moroso backyard furniture, she oversaw it all. I really can't sing her praises enough.
