About Us

James Rixner’s interiors epitomize refinement, elegance, serenity, and suitability. Equally comfortable working with antiques, chic mid-century furniture, or up to the minute contemporary pieces, his projects span many styles and time frames. He believes in working the client’s needs and preferences as well as following the architecture of a home. James has been a show-stopping presence with critical acclaim as a five-time featured Kips Bay Showhouse participant and as a three-time participant of Holiday House. His work has been prominently featured in major shelter publications including Traditional Home, New York Spaces, Interior Design, and The New York Times Magazine Design Section. Mr. Rixner is a professional member of ASID, an NCIDQ certificate holder and also holds a New York State license as a Certified Interior Designer. Former positions include the interior design division of Bloomingdales, HLW Architects and Hinson & Company. He has also served as an instructor at Parson’s School of Design.

I have known James for 20+ years and we have worked on multiple projects during that time span. He first transformed my contemporary waterfront home on Long Island from a casual collection of periods and styles into a completely cohesive and beautifully curated home. In addition to having an Artist's eye for color, he brings his extensive architectural knowledge into play with amazing results. He is a pleasure to work with and has always welcomed my input. This collaboration has been rewarded by the best possible outcome; a stunning home that completely suits my lifestyle.

James has been my "go to" design guru on two major projects thus far. He completely updated my former home in Scarsdale to accommodate my growing family over the years and their varied needs. He has more recently helped my husband and I design our new apartment in Manhattan which reflects an exciting phase in our lives since our children are now out on their own. Through both these projects, he has created homes that have been comfortable and welcoming while also expressing a cool, chic esthetic. His sense of style, not to mention his easy nature and charisma, is unsurpassed. We ALWAYS look forward to seeing his latest work displayed in show houses like Kips Bay and Holiday House. He and his team are real gems.

James Rixner is a quality individual with tremendous talent. He has decorated for me over the past 15 yrs on various projects. Master bedroom and bath renovation, Kitchen Dining room and living room more recently. Jame's work has involved window treatments; fabric choices for upholstery; room colors; wall paper. I find that whatever details of my construction design, or decorating project James adds a depth of beauty, timelessness, and whimsy. I never tire of his work!
