Janel Holiday Interior Design

Janel's focus is mid-century modern and focuses on high quality pieces that are simple and with clean lines. She is definitely flexible and incorporated some family-friendly design aspects that work for our kids into home's spaces! She has a modular approach where our first meeting was big items to source and think though then our next few meetings were around finishing out the spaces with accent pieces and artwork. Janel is not afraid to voice her opinion on items that she thought made the room less cozy, or felt too cheap for the space. But she also found ways to incorporate many of our current stuff into the new design - the house didn't feel foreign at all - we did buy about 2 dozen new pieces and accents, but we also just rearranged a bunch of stuff and made it work better for the space. Janel has her favorite sources for procuring items, but was not pushy about them and helped me find things that worked in our budget range. I would totally work with Janel again on a new project and would recommend her to anyone just trying to freshen up a space or do a complete overhaul - she can do it all!

Where to start about my family's experience working with Janel. She is just incredibly talented! In our project, she really listened to our needs as a family with growing kids who didn't want to totally play it safe (but sometimes needed to). She was able to take our sorta cookie-cutter interiors and turn them into something that reflected us in a home that we now never want to leave. Janel sourced from a variety of places to help us achieve the look we wanted (and stay in budget). She had ideas for spaces that felt fresh and unique, and she was so organized and communicative through the whole process. Not a ball dropped, not a corner unturned. Finally, Janel is just such a good, warm-hearted person (my kids love her)! In her work, this translated into a sort of voodoo sense of when to lead and when to let the client make decisions, when to take a breather and when to push forward. Over the course of a long project, I think this is an invaluable skill and it meant I trusted her implicitly and learned to trust my own instincts as well. Isn't that fabulous? As a result, our home is full of color, cozy spaces, and the personalities of our family. That takes a lot of creativity and also a designer who strives to "know" her clients. In short, I think Janel can do anything and you will love having her in your home!

Janel is a fast responder and is well-connected in her industry making her a great resource for my clients. She displays strong work ethic, clear communication, takes the time to really listen to clients, and can really visualize what they are looking for. I look forward to having Janel as my top choice for referring my real estate clients.

Janel delivers high-quality work. She is extremely efficient, listens and responds to her clients' ideas rather than imposing her own taste, and uses very good suppliers and sub-contractors. She also has a great sense of color, which is part of her creativity. Moreover, she is responsible, reliable, exceptionally well organized and knows how to perform under a deadline. My wife and I enjoyed working with her and recommend her highly.

I'm happy to serve as a reference for Janel. I have only good things to say. Janel worked with me on my home and she was worth every penny. She is really talented as a designer, and beyond that she is extremely organized and attentive to details. She really gets things done efficiently and is committed to getting everything right. She also has good relationships with great tradespeople (eg. painters, furniture dealers, custom upholstery people, window treatments, etc.). I didn't have to worry about a lot of shopping around and was confident that everything was going to be done to meet my expectations, which were high. I liked that she was always willing to adjust her level of involvement to my needs and my budget. I wanted to be relatively involved in the process and she was always very collaborative. She was good at keeping an eye on our budget and letting me know where we were gonna get the most bang for buck. I'm so happy with my home. I worked with her again to decorate my office space! I was unsure at first because it's such a big undertaking, and I'm so glad I found someone as competent and caring as Janel.

I recently had the pleasure of working with Janel from Janel Holiday Interior Design and I can't even express what a wonderful experience it was. I had a kitchen that needed color but NOT in the "paint the wall" kind of color-- It needed something so it would flow with what was already there. Not only did Janel respond quickly, she listened to my request and instantly knew the right direction (including giving me samples). What we ended up going with was grass paper (something that I never thought of) which completely enhanced the room yet created a very warm feeling and harmonized superbly with the counters/cabinets/appliances/etc. Her knowledge is impeccable, her love for design is clearly evident and her execution is professional and flawless. Janel was really a pleasure to work with. Throughout the process she was professional and warm. I was often anxious at times (part of my nature), and she rolled well with it and was always responsive and timely. The project was set in my office at work. I work in healthcare and we had some significant limitations due to building codes, and she was excellent and optimizing what we could do within those restrictions. Since the project completed I have had endless feedback from colleagues and patients about how much they enjoy the warmth of the space, and just what an improvement it is from what is was before. I couldn't be happier.

We had the overwhelming opportunity to completely renovate a small home in 2012 and 2013. Honestly, I had no idea where to begin. Janel quickly stepped in and set the tone and mood of our home with spot on paint recommendations. We wanted muted, calming colors that created as much flow and spaciousness as possible. Janel also provided invaluable design recommendations for our kitchen tile and grout as well as window and sliding glass door placement. Janel got it all just right, inside and out. We highly recommend JHID.

When we purchased our late 1950s home, the Dreaded Previous Owner left us with an awful bargain-basement 80s kitchen remodel that HAD to go! When we told Janel that we wanted to create an authentic-looking mid-century kitchen without sacrificing any modern conveniences, she didn't blink an eye. In fact she had LOTS of ideas! She was able to help us source period appropriate materials that met our budget limitations. Janel made lots of suggestions and was able to offer excellent advice when we got stuck. In particular, Janel was an ace at managing vendors and making sure that we got exactly what we asked for. With Janel's help, we were able to create the retro-modern kitchen of our dreams. I would (and likely will) hire her again and again and again!

My experience with Janel was excellent. I had considered other designers who just didn't make the cut. Janel has incredible style and is very professional. She listened to our input and also came up with new ideas that we could't have imagined. She respected our budget, was not pushy, and is very down to earth. I would not hesitate to recommend Janel for any project you may have. I look forward to working with her again!

Janel was able to take my thoughts on a kitchen re-design and turn them into her vastly improved take on my thoughts on a kitchen re-design. Her added expertise saved me from myself & the well lofted plans she provided saved my contractors from me. Would not hesitate to repeat the experience as the results were fantastic and the process was painless.

Let's keep this brief. Janel has great taste. She was totally in tune to my aesthetic, and brought great energy, and design ideas. Janel has a good knowledge of products in the the market place, resources to purchase from for bed, bath, kitchen, etc... She's a whole project kinda girl. I also loved the fact that Janel has an extraordinary talent for color. She designed the color palette for the entire house. My contractor was taken aback, in the beginning, when I first brought Janel into the project. He fancied himself a designer/contractor, and questioned why I would want to spend the extra money for something he could provide himself. After a short time working wilth Janel, my contractor discovered a new found respect for designers. Specifically Janel. Janel kept a very accurate design notebook, with all of the specs for the job, as well as products. An updated copy was always always immediately given to the contractor, so that there would be no misunderstandings or mistakes along the way. I would recommend Janel to any of my friends or clients, and have continued to do so. With a talented designer like Janel on your team, whatever fee you are paying her, or any good designer, they are in reality saving you many times that amount in costly mistakes or misunderstandings with vendors or contractors. I have been my own general contractor on numerous occasions, but actually saved so much more time, money, and aggravation, by having a pro like Janel aboard, to oversee the project.
