Alison is easy to work with, has great ideas for color and light . and has access to high quality suppliers. We are Swedish, and wanted a Swedish- feel for our California home. She researched various Swedish design elements , and hit the mark with furnishings, space use , color and added design perfectly. She found a way to incorporate some of our own Scandinavian furnishings into a modern re-design of our home. She knows where to splurge and where to be conservative with a budget, yet the whole project ends up stunning and unique. Our friends say: Who was your designer?!

We hired Johnston Home LLC to design our guest house/pool house. Alison and her team were outstanding (and our architect has subsequently recommended/worked with her for multiple projects based on our project). She has a terrific understandable process to create and execute according to the agreed upon design strategy.. She gave us an estimate of what it would cost and timing, including her time, materials, furniture, etc which came in close to budget. She has a great eye and gave us many unique touches (e.g. Morroccon stone floors, beautiful wallpaper, custom comforters) we are so happy about! With our kids gone, we did what I like to call the “Empty Nester Facelift”. Updated the rooms we use; living/fam, bedroom and breakfast area with new paint, floors/carpet and furniture. Wow! Who knew it could look this good. Thank you Alison!!

Alison has been a life saver for me! Having just finished an extensive remodel, I was at a loss as to how to decorate our new house. After meeting with me, Alison seemed to get my aesthetic pretty quickly and came up with at least 2 choices for everything down to pillows and art work. I appreciated having a plan so that I can buy things as I have time or as they are on sale, knowing that everything will work together in the end.

Alison was a pleasure to work with on updating all three of our bedrooms, the master bathroom and remodeling the guest bathroom. She offered great design ideas, beautiful choices of fabrics, fixtures, accessories, carpet and paint colors. The guest bathroom is my favorite with limestone floors, silver travertine vanity slab with satin nickel faucets and white oval sinks, and ceramic tile and stagger glass mosaic in the shower. It has that serene and beachy feel that we wanted. We look forward to working with Alison in the near future to update our kitchen and great room!

My wife and I hired Alison to add our personal style to a remodel that would have otherwise been very plain and predictable. Alison helped us to select finishes (tile, paint, hardware, flooring, cabinetry, etc) and she added architectural interest where there was none. We had two small children and had no idea what we had undertaken and would have been lost without her. She also helped us select furniture that was within budget as she knows where to spend the extra dollars for the WOW factor but also knows where to save a penny or two. We are still using much of this furniture today, 12 years later, and get compliments all the time. Alison cares deeply about her clients and she goes the extra mile to ensure things are done well. We recently hired Alison for a two room furniture design project, where both rooms had some furniture but were very unfinished. She arrived, instantly rattled off "fixes" for both rooms, and put together a design plan that was timely, on budget and fabulous!

We loved working with Alison on our home. She asks good questions and listens to your needs and how you live in your home. She works with what you have and adds to the base by bringing a variety of ideas and selections to you. She is very knowledgeable on history, art and building materials. We are using her again for another project and can't wait for the finished project.

We first worked with Alison Johnston about 15 years ago, decorating our living room, office and master bedroom. We were so happy with the work she did, we called her again a few months ago for help in our family room. We had the same top-notch, happy experience. Working with Alison at Johnston Home was seamless. She looked at the space we wanted to change and had a great idea which we immediately adopted. Alison is easy to work with, she listens to what is most important to the client and then generates great choices. She was able to blend our favorite antique pieces with new updated pieces to create a warm new living space that the whole family enjoys. Our open kitchen looked a bit worn, Alison made a few changes by darkening the stain on the cabinets, using Ceasar stone instead of granite and darkening the wooden floors which brightened up and modernize the look immensely.
