I can design your renovation myself and supervise the entire job -- tearing down walls to open up space, adding square footage with a well-placed addition, restoring period details and materials. In these difficult times I am focusing on remote and E-Design, using FaceTime or other means to help you work on a particular space for a set budget while we are all stuck indoors. My husband and I hired Julia to design a complete remodel of our home, including new kitchen, 2 bathrooms, laundry room, floors, and new paint throughout. We're thrilled with the results! As first time renovators, we needed a bit of hand holding and Julia was there for us every step of the way. She helped us develop a new floor plan, which entailed moving some walls, and then she designed and oversaw the construction process from start to finish. Our house is over a hundred years old and sadly had all of its character removed. Our main goal with the remodel was to bring back character and vintage charm while upgrading to all the modern amenities. Julia is extremely resourceful and was able to locate a number of vintage/antique pieces to make our home unique. She thought of so many little details that went a long way in making our house feel special and well appointed. Julia has a great eye for colors as well and helped us pick out a beautiful rich green for our kitchen cabinets. She's very dedicated to her clients and provided a lot of support to us throughout the process.

Julia Chasman did a makeover/refresh on our master bedroom and dining room, which hadn't been updated in twenty years. She brought in wonderful textiles and ideal paint colors, which brought a spirit of fun back into the dining room, and a feeling of rest, revival and peace into the master suite. The new upholstery and draperies in both rooms were done perfectly. She also elegantly solved a technical issue we encountered, involving our wanting to mount a drapery rod above a deck door which had a lighting soffit above it. Julia is a pleasure to work with. Her sense of design is joyful.

We worked steadily with Julia over the course of 2 years to renovate both our bathrooms and our kitchen. She is a wonderful partner, with eclectic taste, great resources, savvy about problem solving (like sourcing factory second Heath tiles in our dream color from their outlet in Sausalito and getting someone to drive them back to LA...and it was still cheaper than ordering them new!), generous and open to collaboration. She has a great team of professionals and craftspeople and she creates spaces that instantly feel like home.

We loved working with Julia! Her knowledge of home design and decor is unrivaled. She is easy to work with and very responsive. She was not only able to work within our budget, she also helped us meet some very tight deadlines. In addition, Julia found impressive deals and unique items for our home, and introduced us to talented local artisans who completed excellent work at affordable prices. Julia does terrific work and hires very skilled tradesmen. She has REALLY good taste and consulted extensively with me as a client. It was a very complex job (doing BOTH bathrooms in a 1300 sq. ft. condo) while we lived in the place. Never an easy task but thanks to her practical charm it went about as well as could be expected. It was a fixed price job, but we often found ourselves arguing AGAINST our own financial interests in small ways, Julia pushing the more expensive tiles, and me saying the cheaper tile looks fine. That's what happens when you have trust, and a human relationship, between client and designer...and boy, does that make the process easier.

Julia has great taste! A true artist!! We purchased a home she improved, and we continually receive compliments about the updates she made to the 1928 Spanish-style property. I recently purchased a home that was completely and meticulously remodeled by Julia Chasman of Rubber Tree Plant. It is a 1927 Craftsman house that she beautifully redefined for today. I could not be happier with my new home! Julia managed to retain and highlight the historical, architectural elements of the original house, while tastefully redefining it for 2015. With a focus on natural light and openness, and the addition of a wonderful deck, the house feels bright and more spacious than it actually is. As illustrated in the photos, the work reflects good taste, quality materials and construction, and smart use of space. A closer look reveals a practical attention to detail (ie, electrical outlets in all the right places!). I enthusiastically give Julia and Rubber Tree Plant 5 stars!

Julia of Rubber Tree Plant designed and renovated/restored a beautiful Craftsman home in Highland Park which I had the privilege of listing and selling. Her eye to detail and commitment to staying true to the home's origins were outstanding. The final product was exceptional. She also staged the home and did an equally outstanding job. Julia was able to create an atmosphere where potential buyers felt comfortable spending time in and several of them got emotionally attached to the home. Some were surprised the home was staged and not one someone was already living in. We were able to get multiple offers in a very short period of time and sold the house for more than any comparable home in the neighborhood. Finally, Julia was a pleasure to work with. She was gracious, considerate and authentic. A true creative soul.
