Our main floor has never looked more lovely and styled with the comfort and joy which suits us perfectly. "Living through a reno is joyful", said NO ONE. Katherine was a “joy” to work with. She is professional, creative, responsive and also able to manage difficult situations with suppliers and contractors. When we experienced sticker shock from some of the kitchen elements we wanted, she was able to scale appropriately so that the look, feel and functionality were not compromised. Having worked with Katherine in choosing paint colours for my home, I decided it was time for a kitchen reno. I didn't hesitate to call on Katherine again. During our initial discussion, I expected to simply renovate the existing layout. Then Katherine said - "Why don't we knock down this wall?" I gasped! But Katherine continued to describe her vision and why it made sense and how it would make my first floor so much more functional etc. She gave me time to think about it and more information and then we went to work. We were in the midst of renovations on a recently purchased century home. So many decisions to be made and it does become overwhelming. A friend recommended Katherine. She helped me overcome my anxieties by helping me make many decisions around colours, windows and room arrangement to name a few. Our living room was particularly tricky and the room arrangement Katherine suggested has made it very comfortable We are so pleased with the outcome. Katherine was recommended to me by the owner of the kitchen cabinetry company I hired to custom build my kitchen cabinets. I was uncertain,confused and overwhelmed in choosing the proper shade of color for my cabinets and Quartz countertop that would match my existing ceramic floors. I have been working with Katherine and the cabinetry company for the past 5 months through the planning, design, building and decorative stages of my Kitchen Renovation. Katherine not only helped me with the selection of the cabinet and Quartz colours, but every little detail of the renovation that all contribute to making a significant difference to the project. Things such as paint colours, cove moulding size, stove canopy style, sink and faucet, sink edging, handles & knobs, she also sketch designed a tall cabinet built-in to a corner in my kitchen (ceiling to floor) with glass shelves on top, open-shelving in the middle with cabinet doors on the bottom for the kitchen company to build for me as a decorative piece to my kitchen. She picked out and chose an absolutely gorgeous backsplash and roller blinds and sourced a table with upholstered chairs to match my decor. And on such short notice, was most helpful in obtaining a backsplash installer for me. Katherine is an amazing designer and very genuine and sincere individual. I felt this connection from my first consultation with her. I love her very classic decorating style to the point that I can totally trust her choices and taste with confidence. I enjoyed with her and appreciate what value a designer brings to the project. Since my first consultation in June, Katherine has answered and returned all my calls, texts, emails in a very timely manner and was ever so helpful in providing her expertise advice on each instance. We hired Katherine to design and coordinate extensive renovations throughout our two-storey house, with the biggest impact being re-designing our kitchen and family room into an open-concept plan by removing a wall and changing the layout of both spaces. Along the way, Katherine listened to our wants and needs, and always provided us with several selections of finishes to choose from, guiding us throughout the process. She introduced us to and coordinated the work schedules of our contractor, painter, and other service providers and ensured that everything was finished on time. I hired Katherine for the window coverings on my main floor. We discussed my style, colours and taste before our meeting. When she arrived she bought me about 8 books of fabric. I really appreciated this because it can become very overwhelming if there are too many choices. It ended up being a quick and perfect choice for fabric and design. I have had the pleasure of working with Katherine over the last couple months on a family room project. Katherine's ability to understand her clients personal style is outstanding. It was a pleasure working with Katherine of Katherine Joy Interiors. Katherine is a true professional. She is very personable, has a great sense of style and colour and immediately clued in to my taste once we met and started to talk. Katherine was highly recommended by my kitchen cabinet company (Florentine Kitchens, who also did a fabulous job!!). My original kitchen was in a very specific design (and very outdated style) and I had asked numerous kitchen designers to help in redesigning it, but every designer just gave me the exact same design I had. Katherine came up with a design to open up the existing angled counter, allowing for a massive island and allowing me to utilize an adjacent wall to add 2 wall ovens. I also complained about always having so much paperwork all over my counters and she came up with a great idea to convert the empty front area of the island into extra cupboards so all that paperwork could disappear. We had no interest in utilizing the front of the island for dining at the counter so this was a perfect solution. The design turned out amazing, and, all my paperwork is now "gone"! Katherine was extremely helpful in sourcing various products. Although I had already chosen my appliances and the style and colour of my cupboards, I still needed to choose my countertop, paint colours, hardware for the cupboards, lighting, floor tiles, backsplash, and most importantly, pull it all together so it didn’t look like a mish-mash. The hardest thing was finding kitchen tiles that matched my dark countertop, looked great with my off-white cupboards, but blended with the existing honey-coloured oak floors in my adjoining dining area and family room. Katherine’s sense of colour really helped steer me in the right direction and pull it all together. Katherine was punctual for our appointments, had a wealth of information and knowledge and a great sense of style. She responded promptly to e-mails and texts and went out of her way to respond on a Sunday when I sent her an "urgent" text. Now that's dedication!! I’m very glad I chose to work with Katherine and would highly recommend her!

From the first meeting with Katherine, I was completely comfortable with her. This was a complete overhaul of our ensuite bathroom - everything except the windows had to go. We first met Katherine at our local home show. At age 25 years, our home was in need of a facelift. Katherine had some great suggestions, and with the help of Randall Brothers contractors, the house was painted, under cabinet lighting and new kitchen backsplash, wood floors sanded and stained, staircase painted, dining room furniture refinished and some new furniture added. That was summer of 2013. This year, it was time for a complete ensuite bathroom renovation as well as the tiny main floor powder room. Katherine co-ordinated the whole project, and the results were amazing. She supplied samples of tile, paint colours, lighting and accessories right at home so we had to choose from a selection of five or six instead of going to a store and having thousands to choose from. And computerized 3D drawings made it easy for us to visualize the end result. As you can see by the picture, there is still a decorative mirror and a piece of art to be added over the tub We couldn't have been happier with the results. We had struggled with decorating a combinabition living/dining room since we bought our house 5 years ago. We decided to seek help and were lucky enough to meet Katherine at the Newmarket Home Show. From that first encounter, we knew we had the right designer to turn our living/dining room into the space we desired. Katherine laid out a vision for the room on her first visit and what immediately struck us was that she carefully guaged whether we liked an idea or not and then offerred alternatives. This was great as it was really important to us that we didn't feel pushed in a particular direction if we didn't want to go there. Over the following weeks, Katherine took us on a journey of choosing pieces for the room piece by piece, researching possibilibities first and then taking us to specific suppliers to see the items. It was neat to picture the room coming together as we made our choices. Throughout, Katherine was pure 'joy'! We couldn't be happier with the way our living/dining room transformed!

Katherine worked with my family and I over a period of 6-months to renovate, organize, and make our home wheelchair accessible. She did a terrific job, she well listened to what we wanted, worked with what we had. She gave great advice and came up with practical yet beautiful designs. After 6-month of living with the complete job we are completely satisfied. Her contractor Steve Randall also did a terrific job and is very dependable. They work well together, and he comes back to follow up if needed. I will definitely use them both for future projects.

After we decided it was finally time to renovate our bathroom, the natural first step was to secure a contractor to do the work. Once that was done, it would be clear sailing. It would take a little bit of work, but we could do this on our own. Right? After our first visit to the tile store, we knew we needed help. We asked ourselves, where do you start? We were spending a lot of money on the renovation and wanted to get it right. Through a neighbour we connected with Kathy Porath. During our first visit with Kathy we were put at ease. Kathy asked us a lot of questions about what we liked and didn’t like and laid out a process we would follow to complete the renovation. Kathy was extremely helpful in so many ways and did much of the legwork in selecting. For example, she worked hard to find a vanity for us, sending us lots and lots of possibilities. When we just couldn’t find the one we wanted, she suggested having one made and recommended a cabinet maker she had worked with in the past. When it came to choosing the design and finish for the vanity and tiles, she narrowed down our choices so they were manageable, yet consistent with our vision of the bathroom we discussed in our first meeting. With her guidance we also picked out the new fixtures and finishes. Everything fit together. Kathy’s advice and recommendations were always sound. She never forced her opinion on us, letting us make the final decision. She was in tune with what we wanted and considered that in all the possibilities she presented. In addition, she was able to offer ideas that were consistent with our likes yet things we hadn’t considered. We were very impressed with Kathy’s ability as an interior decorator. She has a keen eye for coordinating materials, colours and themes throughout a space. We have taken her advice not only on the bathroom, but in other areas of our house and have not once regretted going with her recommendation. We are very pleased with our new bathroom and the subsequent changes we are making throughout our home. Kathy made the project much easier than it would have been had we done it alone. I met Katherine Joy in 2009 when she was in a workshop I was delivering, in preparation for a local home show. I immediately recognized a woman of action and integrity, and - as chance would have it - we were looking for someone to help us design and furnish a living/dining-room combination and offer suggestions for facelifting our tired family room. So, I hired her. Not only did we beautifully furnish the living and dining rooms - complete with new sofa set (2 sofas), tables (coffee and side), floor and table lighting as well as accents in the living room, we found 8 new dining chairs (leather!), a chandelier, side tables and accent lighting in the dining room, AND we purchased a lounge chair with lamp for our master suite. All this was done within a week, and within our - what I thought to be - meagre budget. In fact, I was highly skeptical that we'd be able to do it all (I set the bar VERY high), but Katherine is innovative, practical and realistic ... wrapped in a joyfully creative, and easy-going package! Katherine continues to impress me so much that I have repeatedly referred her to my business colleagues, clients and friends, and ALL have reported back to me that they've been thrilled with the work she's done for them.
