Kerstin Dieterich Designs

Kerstin Dietrich Designs is a great interior designer to have as a partner during a home renovation. Not only did she help us with color and the look and feel of the house, her firm helped with many things behind the scenes that made our house renovation much more manageable. There are a million decisions home owners must make during a home renovation. The most overwhelming thing was all of the items I had to buy. The last thing I wanted was to keep the Contractor waiting for materials, which may impact the completion date. Kerstin had a solution for that. She provides her clients with an online work space with a worksheet that has most of the things you will need to purchase. I used this spreadsheet almost everyday. It was a big help and allowed us to stay ahead of what the General Contractor needed. Once items are purchased, you have to let the contractor know where to put it. Kerstin and her team did CAD designs for the placement of all the bathroom fixtures. From the toilet to the towel bars, the contractor just followed Kerstin's CAD mockups. She also did CADs for the light placement throughout the house that the contractor could follow. I can't tell you what a relief it was to have these drawings, so I could just send it to the contractor. I am especially grateful for Kerstin's help with our kitchen cabinets. Before we spoke to the cabinet maker, Kerstin's associate and I designed the entire kitchen: cabinets, placement of appliances and where all of my kitchen items would be stored. Another CAD was created and we just handed it over to the cabinet maker, so he could do an estimate. Once the cabinets were completed and installed, Kerstin worked with the lighting contractor to install under cabinet lighting that is so cool. It has become one of my favorite things in our new house. If you need an interior designer that will be there throughout the renovation process, I recommend you hire Kerstin Dietrich Designs. Our project was a brand new kitchen and great room. We brought Kerstin in after the architectural design was complete. Kerstin was easy to work with. She provided direction on the areas that I had not considered and helped to narrow down choices for finishes and kitchen layout. Kerstin has a wonderful eye for color and trends and worked with me to find a look and feel for each room that exceeded my expectations. She accepted the limitations of the existing spaces and swiftly adjusted her designs to unexpected conditions encountered during construction. For example, her design for a custom cabinet and mirror unit for a very small ensuite resulted in that room being both much more stylish and functional. So much to love about Kerstin Dieterich Designs. Kerstin is the only designer we interviewed that truly saw past the limitations of our old space and offered us a new space that was transformed into a spectacular main kitchen AND a butler's pantry. Both spaces are seamlessly integrated with beautiful accents that will remain timeless for many years to come. We really could not be more pleased. Kerstin remained mindful of our budget constraints throughout the whole process. We did go slightly over (~10%) our original budget; however, those added costs were because of items and last minute additions that we approved. Her fees are reasonable and came in at less than 7% of the overall cost. As we expected, labor was the biggest cost (~55%) and yet again, Kerstin found us a GC that was trustworthy who brought in highLY skilled subcontractors who managed to get the whole kitchen done in less than four months. Remarkable. If there was a 6th star, we would have chosen it!

This review is way overdue. Kerstin was our designer for our home remodel in 2021. This was our first time remodeling our home and she made an effort to make a stressful process nice and easy. Home remodels are supposed to be stressful, but she found ways to lessen the stress. Choices can often be overwhelming but she simplified choices for us. She understood our tastes and set proper expectations in terms of budget. In addition, she was very practical in how we should live in our home. She thought about light placements, fixture types, window types that we would never think about, but made logical sense and we are reaping those benefits now in our remodeled home! I can't thank Kerstin enough for her support during this entire process!

We had an excellent experience working with Kerstin on our kitchen remodel. We asked her to understand our aesthetics and our budget and then give us clear recommendations and she did precisely that. This saved us a lot of time and made the design process seamless. We also couldn't be more excited about the outcome. Kerstin helped us through a couple of phases of our home remodel. She's amazing with taking existing spaces and making the layout more functional and beautiful. The first project was changing the layout of 2 bathrooms, and she helped pick out fixtures, finishes and colors, and worked through details like shampoo niches and tile edges. The second phase was more involved, and included working with a structural engineer to add a steel beam, opening up the first floor to an open kitchen/dining/living room. She introduced us to a fantastic custom cabinet maker, as well as an excellent contractor for the last phase. We love the results!

Kerstin helped us with a full house remodel and second story addition. Without her assistance, we would have been overwhelmed by all the decisions to be made. She quickly got a feel for our style and budget and helped guide us through every design decision, from kitchen and bathroom design to lighting layout to baseboard style and size to door handles and everything in between. She has a great eye for color and we are particularly happy with our tile/countertop selection and paint colors. We have been working with Kerstin since September, 2019 for our home renovation project. She is very easy to work with from engagement to contracting and designing the floor plan for the whole house. She overcame some accessibility issue to measure the dimensions of the house. She always offer different design options and discuss with us in a professional manner. We did a full rebuild of our house. It was a huge project and we immediately were overwhelmed with all the big decisions that needed to be made. She helped us with tying everything together - windows colors and coverings, doors, flooring, cabinetry, lighting, tile, paint colors, door handles and nobs, etc. Our house is now complete - we absolutely love it and receive tons of compliments from our family, friends and neighbors! We worked with Kerstin to pick color for our newly purchased house. The house has high ceiling in most of rooms. We want to create a modern airy feeling while the marble floor and Jacuzzi is more of classical vibe. Kerstin created customer color and helped us picked the right color for every room in the nearly 4000 sqft house. We got quite a lot of complement from our guests. We also enjoy the sophisticated color Kerstin picked. She also came up with ideas to help us update the staircase in the house. Her idea has greatly enhanced the look of the overall look of the staircase.

I had a very positive experience working with Kerstin our full house rebuild/remodel. Our project was extensive and including a completely new kitchen, turning our old kitchen into a multi-purpose laundry/mud/craft room, and three bathrooms. All required detailed planning on layout and materials. Kerstin created detailed schematics for the cabinetry and tile layouts for each of those spaces. She was able to assess my style and work with me in defining a direction on the rooms where I had very little idea of what I wanted. For rooms that I already had a picture in mind, she was very good at taking my ideas and helping me refine them, as well as correct some mistakes that I may have made on my own (you don't what you don't know). She also advised on other finishings throughout the house and helped me with color selection. The colors turned out beautiful and I wouldn’t have been able to get just the right shades in some of the rooms on my own. My favorite rooms that we worked together on are my new kitchen and our master bath. Kerstin was instrumental in creating rooms that reflect my style, yet incorporate ideas that I would not have been able to generate on my own. I now have my dream kitchen and our master feels like our own private spa! All in all, I'm very happy with the results that Kerstin has delivered, and I would hire her again.

Kerstin was a huge help with our kitchen remodel, stepping in on short notice. Halfway through our kitchen remodel, I was overwhelmed with design decisions that needed to be made quickly and Kerstin came to my rescue. She accompanied me to the fabricator's shop on very short notice to help me choose which sections of our stone slabs to use for which counters. She really took the time to think through all the possibilities with me, and the counters look amazing thanks to her sharp eye. She also helped with other design decisions such as light fixtures and cabinet hardware, taking the time to think through the smallest of details with me. Kerstin is truly gifted when it comes to picking paint colors. She was able to walk into our kitchen and immediately name the color that she thought would look the best. We played around with other color samples but kept coming back to the one she had first named. The color is perfect for the room and is exactly what I was looking for. We had our townhouse completely remodeled including removing a wall to extend the kitchen and changing the staircase. The design focus was in the kitchen, dining area, master bedroom, bathrooms (2) and powder room. We upgraded plumbing (water and gas) and electrical throughout. We wanted a contemporary styled home and Kerstin was involved with the design, selection of the colors, stone and tile. She was also involved selection of the lighting, hardware throughout and providing guidance with unique features of the project, adding a walk-in closet, built-in cabinets in the master bedroom and shoe closet downstairs. We found Kerstin through the Houzz website and have been completely satisfied. She listens to the clients requirements and knew when to be firm with her suggestions and when not to be. She is always available (even during her vacation!) for consultation and advise. She can provide detailed drawings/elevations to assist with the finalizing all the design features. I would highly recommend her services.

Kerstin was great at conceptualizing our bathroom remodeling project from a 1950's bath to one with a soothing, contemporary look (see photos of Bathroom remodel, soft grey tones). She was good at getting us comfortable with what to expect at different stages of the remodel, and actively listened to our family's likes and dislikes during the design phase in order to achieve a bathroom look everyone was delighted with in the end. Kerstin prefers working with local suppliers, and I agree this was convenient for us and the suppliers to quickly meet in stores or plan installations. We also were very happy with her connecting us with both a high quality building contractor (Mongird construction) and cabinet maker (Gusto's designs). Kerstin stayed within a reasonable budget for our project. It took about 4-6 weeks longer to complete than I would have liked, but this made me realize that the designer is not necessarily there for project management of each interdependent task, plus some delays cannot be helped (e.g. waiting for an additional part to be ordered and delivered).

Kristin did an amazing job of helping me find the right color for my kitchen/dining/family rooms. By the time I had contacted her, I had already repainted once and bought endless samples of paint. Needless to say, I was extremely frustrated and discouraged. Kristin was great to work with. When she came to the house she brought suitcases filled with paint charts and color samples. However, before we dove into the selection process, she made sure to get a sense of what my vision was as opposed to just providing me with colors that would "work." The lighting in the rooms was a challenge, but she addressed that issue and before the appointment was over I had three good color choices to work with. In addition, she accompanied me to the paint store to purchase paint samples and then review how they looked in the rooms. She was very thorough and followed up with me to ensure that I was satisfied once the rooms had been repainted. I would highly recommend Kristin as a decorator and paint consultant.

I found Kerstin to be knowledgeable about bathroom remodels--which is what I am doing --and respectful of my suggestions. She listened to my wish list, accompanied me to tile and fixture selection and was helpful in making the final tile decisions. She suggested contractors and submitted plans to them. I have known Kerstin for several years and this is the first time I have worked with her on a project. I found Kerstin through my contractor. I had moved to a new place that was built in the 1970s and had not been touched since. It was badly out of date and very rundown. The bathrooms needed to be gutted and completely redone, as did the kitchen. I also needed drapes, too. I tried to do this on my own, thinking I would just pick some stuff out, but I was completely overwhelmed by the situation of having to deal with all this and not having it come out worse in the end. My contractor wasn't much help, either. Kerstin was able to coalesce my many ideas into a few narrow choices that made it very easy for me to focus and fine tune what I wanted and the sorts design I really liked. She came with me to pick out materials, and made extremely helpful suggestions. She was very patient with a befuddled and frustrated person, The end result is that I have gorgeous upgrades that allowed me to have what I liked without going crazy financially. She added details that I would never have thought of, and they really made everything very special. I use these rooms daily and truly appreciate their look and how they give a warm, comfortable feeling to where I now live. She did a wonderful job by me, and I would recommend her to anyone.
