“Each room belongs in a Design magazine!” - what I hear from everyone who walks in :) I remodeled an entire condo and Kimball guided the design process. Her keen sense of design, professionalism and most important – patience, made it a pleasure to work with her during an otherwise stressful period. Brining a vision of how I wanted my home to look, Kimball educated me on finishes, color combinations, textures and overall design protocol. For the kitchen and bathrooms, she meticulously drafted the plans for the contractors ensuring our unique designs came to life, and consulted on furniture selection and placement. Saying I love how the condo turned out would be an understatement. I highly recommend Kimball Starr!

Kimball is amazing. She was our designer for a full remodel and guided us through decisions ranging from light fixtures to wood floor stain colors to hardware to doing the layout design and elevations for our LR built ins, laundry room, office and tandem desk. I loved how she was opinionated but not pushy, and really advocated for what I laid out as my vision at the beginning of the project. She is very low key and warm without being a pushover. She frequently suggested things that at first I didn't gravitate towards, but I would end up choosing in the end because they were the right choices. She also worked extremely well with our contractor and was always professional and personable with vendors. I highly recommend Kimball for any interior design or more complex design projects

We just finished our basement remodel project, Kimball is our designer, she guided us through the entire process, and the final result is exactly what we wanted, in many places, it exceeded our expectations. It is a substantial project, 150k+, 6mon+, having a good designer is really important. What I liked about working with Kimball: 1. Of course, the final result. It is comfortable, warm, yet clean and modern. Many people commented on how beautiful the place turns out to be. I end up like all the design decisions, my fav is laundry room and bathroom, it is light and airy, with a mix of gold and black fixture to keep the place interesting. 2. Kimball is very structured and detail oriented, she kept us updated, all purchases have clear invoice, all hours are documented, produced professional drawings with exact measurement/layout, which helped answering numerous questions contractors had onsite, helped us visualize/decide. 3. Kimball listens well, she took both my husband and my input and produced something we both like. 4. She is very sensitive to color and pay attention to how everything fits together. She had many great suggestions and guided us away from a few non-desirable ideas I had originally. In retrospective, I am happy I took the advice. 5. Kimball puts a big emphasis on function. It shows in big areas such as layout as well as details such as door swing, cabinet depth/height. 6. Kimball is fun and easy to work with. Overall, I would say I will hire her again and would recommend her to my friends.

My wife and I were planning a kitchen/dining/family room remodel and decided we needed some design help. Kimball was great throughout the entire process. At the initial meeting, she got to know us and find out the style we were looking for. After that meeting, she provided several options for layouts and helped us choose the final design. Then over the course of the planning process, she helped guide our selection of cabinetry, countertops, flooring, tiling, lighting, hardware, furniture, and paint color. And it wasn't just choosing items or colors. She provided guidance on form and function, such as: sizing and placement of the island, distance from island to dining table, placement of overhead lights to prevent shadows, etc. When we were overwhelmed by the number of choices for something, Kimball narrowed down the options so we only had to choose between a few options. It was super helpful having Kimball with all of these decisions because she made sure the entire design worked well together. In the end, we are absolutely thrilled with how everything turned out. We highly recommend Kimball's design services.

We worked with Kimball on a large whole house remodel and addition. Throughout the project there was an excellent collaborative dynamic between the client, architect, designer (Kimball) and ourselves (builders). Kimball is straightforward and approachable. She works closely with the client to determine their style and create a beautiful design that fits their needs (and budget!). We enjoyed working with Kimball so much that we are starting another project with her ... next week!

We had a large renovation project last year and thanks to houzz and pinterest, we had so many ideas to comb through. Thankfully we found Kimball. After our first meeting, she was able to understand the differing ideas between me and my husband, and helped guide us toward a single vision that incorporated both of our ideas. We had a lot of incidences where we over-analyzed (such as picking tile combinations for our bathroom) and Kimball was able to quickly help us reach a solution. We managed the project on our own due to financial constraints, but Kimball worked with our budget and provided her assistance on a consulting basis. She was worth every penny because she gave us a lot of great advice that would've been expensive to change later (such as placement of our bathroom fixtures). Kimball also helped us do some drawings to help us visualize our space and placement, which we ended up giving to the our contractor. We had a great experience and can't wait to hire Kimball again.

I have previously hired Kimball to design my homes in San Francisco and Palo Alto. When I was looking for a kitchen, dining and living area remodel in Lake Tahoe, she was my first choice despite the distance. Her talent with bringing to life what I really want as a client and what the space can support is really special. The project scope included a kitchen, dining and living area remodel. The first most transformative change Kimball made, was converting an existing bar area of a “dead end” kitchen layout into an island that dramatically eased the flow around the kitchen. With lots of house guests and little ones occupying the space, moving through and around the kitchen was important. She worked closely with the contractors working with what was possible structurally and ended up in a place where I am am so in love with my kitchen still 6 months later. Kimball has great attention to detail and can really get super involved where needed. In my case, she hand picked the quartzite slabs in San Francisco and marked them off exactly where to make the cuts for the fabricator here in Reno. I found collaborating with her via Skype/Facetime to work well and she didn’t let the distance become an issue at all. When it got time to pick details like flooring, tiles, cabinets, etc., she made the process feel very opened while at the same time was able to drive the process to closure. She went the extra mile to not only get what could work for me, but something I truly love (and will surely love for years to come). Kimball's sensitivity around color is something special she brings to the table. Tying in living room tones, with an existing area rug, with a spectacular backsplash all working together nicely and without a sense of competition. She even worked through with me the exact color tones of the LED lighting throughout the space. The house feels so open and easy now while allowing the dramatic views over Lake Tahoe contribute strongly to the space. Kimball is such a talent and pleasure to work with. I’m so grateful she was willing to take a project at a distance and move through it with such care and attention.

Kimball just did the design of my bathroom and kitchen renovation at my condo in Civic Center Heights. I really could not be more pleased with the process and the result. Kimball is a good listener. She has a way of understanding what your driving toward even if you cannot fully explain it. She is knowledgeable, personable, a good communicator -- and affordable. In fact, her fee as a percentage of the total cost of the project is quite small. Considering the time it takes to do these projects and the time I'm going to live with them, it was a good value and a good investment. Kimball was also able to act as my project manager when I was out of town. She interfaced easily with my general contractor, keeping the project on schedule and on budget. I would definitely use Kimball again and have no hesitancy to recommend her

Our bathroom is SO tiny. But Kimball helped us make the most of the space. She was very patient with us as we figured out exactly what we liked, and didn't like. She helped us source supplies and get the plans ready for our contractor. Our tiny little bathroom is now the best room in the house. Many thanks to Kimball. Highly recommended.
