We hired Kevin (and indirectly Kalah) for a >$1M, 5,500sq' new house 30 minutes outside of Boston. I would unquestionably hire him again and have recommended him to many friends and family. Picking an architect can be daunting. My brother had used one out of Concord a few years earlier that was lukewarm, at best. He billed for everything individually, even a phone call to clarify his plans, so I wanted someone who I genuinely trusted to be professional, honest, and flexible. When we first engaged Kevin & Kalah we weren't certain what we wanted to do with our house. Too say our ideas were all over the place would be conservative. We probably spent about six months figuring out what we wanted from a design perspective, six months drafting versions of our vision, six months refining the plans with input from our builder, and then a full year building our dream house. All told we the project was several years in the making (worth it, in my opinion, as we got exactly what we wanted). Throughout the process Kevin and Kalah were not only patient but supportive, educational, and, at times, provided great mediation between me and my wife (not that we ever fought over the design, but we'd have disagreements over where to invest/conserve, etc.) Kevin met with us and the builder regularly, took the time to understand how we wanted to use the space, what was important to us vs. irrelevant, what our daily habits were, and all sorts of questions which we thought were irrelevant until he explained why. For an example, he would suggest where to place light switches based on how we would use a kitchen desk. He would play "bad guy" with the builder when we were unhappy with something. He would point out minor details that seemed like obsessive and unnecessary but proved valuable over time, especially as we got burnt out on the building process around the nine month mark. The biggest testament to the thought that Kevin put into the house is when our friends ask, "so what would you do differently if rebuilding?" We really don't have a very good answer for any of it. Maybe an extra light switch in the kids bedroom? Less TV brackets? ...all pretty inconsequential items that proves, to me, that the house is 99.9% perfect and Kevin really put some amazing thought into the design and process. Professionalism, attention to detail, and integrity were the attributes that stood out most and why I would certainly hire Kevin again... if I thought we'd ever move out of this house he designed.
Did a great job helping us with a bathroom renovation. It's small work for them but they provided wonderful guidance early on and throughout the project, had an exceptional eye for detail, helped us avoid a lot of costly mistakes, and connected us to some great vendors and suppliers.
