McCulley Design Lab is for certain one of the premier design firms in our city, San Diego. Working with John and his team means a high level of professionalism and listening. Our friend had used McCulley for a major remodel of their large home, and we loved everything about the design and layout. About six months later we decided we wanted to remodel our beach condo and hired them. They listened to what we wanted and were always open to any questions we had. To be honest, my husband was a bit reluctant to use/spend the money on a design consultant, and now is one of their biggest fans. It was done perfectly and all of our friends who come and visit rarely fail to comment on how beautiful the place is.

McCulley Design Lab is a joy to work with. Thanks to Janet and John’s in-depth knowledge and keen interest in mid-century design we now live in a perfectly rebuilt 1962 home that reflects our style and personality but honors the original design intent of the house. This dynamic duo spent countless hours listening to our ideas and collaborating with us on our aspirations for the house. I wanted to walk through our front door and feel like I was in a tree house. They made that happen. I wanted to keep most of the original house and John embraced that desire, even though it presented many structural and design difficulties. John envisioned and designed a cantilevered master wing as an add-on for the additional space that we required, incorporating both modern elements and mid-century design for a seamless but interesting transition. Throughout our project, John and Janet used their ingenuity to create spaces that not only function beautifully but look amazing as well.

I have worked with McCulley Design Lab for 25 years, which started when John developed our company logo during the first days of Capstone Advisor’s existence. Since then they have done our corporate imaging (logo, letterhead, etc.) and every one of our major corporate office designs, including our current offices in Carlsbad which was ground breaking in its ‘creative’ feel when built 12 years ago, and still look extremely fresh and contemporary today. Their team has also done the design work on a wide variety of our commercial property assets, including the complete renovation of The Ivanhoe, our Class A office building in La Jolla, as well as the total transformation of The Presidio that converted an outdated industrial project into a very hip urban retail destination at the entrance of USD in San Diego. They have done other numerous projects with equally great results. They deliver exceptional results, every time.

McCulley Design Lab was an integral part of the success of our new home construction project in La Jolla, California. We chose them because of they had done so many beautiful Mid-Century/Modern homes and understood that we wanted a warm livable space that was also great for entertaining. Since completing our project, friends and visitors often comment that our home and the interior spaces feel new which is a testament to the McCulley Design Lab’s timeless design decisions. Everything from the space planning, & lighting design, to door framing details, baseboards and built ins come together to create a beautiful, cohesive and organic feeling environment. We still marvel at the beauty and comfort of this space we live in. I highly recommend McCulley Design Lab for your home project. It's obvious from their project photos, that McCulley Design Lab creates some really unique spaces. That's what attracted us to their work initially, but it was something less tangible that made us huge fans and repeat customers.
