Michael Maher Design

I am a custom home builder who provides the highest level of detail to all of my projects. I had the extreme pleasure of working with Michael on a very large home renovation where time was of the essence. Michael was there at every turn of the project with the details, professionalism and most importantly creative ideas on time when we needed them to complete the project. His input to the project satisfied the clients and made a great project come out special. Michael is definetly someone I appreciate having on my team, and someone I woudl highly recommend for any project.

I worked with Michael Maher on a whole home renovation that was about a 1 1/2 year project. He did the interior design for all the rooms including furniture, window treatments, rugs, and wall color. He also worked on the selection and layout of tile for 5 1/2 bathrooms and the kitchen. Michael was wonderful to work with. He was very professional. He was always respectful and responsive. He was also completely willing to work within a budget.

Michael Maher has worked with us on several projects in our architecturally traditional New Jersey home and, most recently, in our TriBeCa loft. Although the projects were all very different, Michael's ability to understand our vision for each place was remarkable. He immediately perceived what we wanted and then, with wonderful efficiency, helped us realize a beautifully elaborated and improved version of our idea. He is simply a genius with color and fabric. His choices are unexpected and interesting but never eccentric and always beautiful. Michael and his staff are very responsive and professional. He met our deadlines and was very effective in dealing with the occasional problem with a vendor. Finally, in addition to giving us wonderful results, Michael was a lot of fun to work with, making the potentially stressful process of renovating and decorating a pleasure.

I am a veteran kitchen designer/contractor and often interface with interior designers on the projects for which I am hired. Thankfully, most of those pairings have been quite positive. Working with Michael has always been among the best of those experiences. He is a thoughtful, creative and thoroughly talented professional who knows how to make a project perfect, without stepping all over the needs and wants of his clients. I met Michael Maher at a show house in Montclair! Nj where I fell in love with the room he designed. I hired him to decorate my primary residence in Northern NJ and after that to decorate my beach house in Southern NJ. I also referred him to many other friends who thank me to this day. Michael brings so much talent, creativity and enthusiasm to the table. He has fantastic taste that can be both modern and traditional...and both at the same time if desired. He is honest, thoughtful and a pleasure to work with in every way. His choice of fabrics is magical! And he resources both antiques and new furnishings and accessories. His finished product never feels "decorated" it almost feels curated. As if he read your mind, your history and your dreams and wove them into the rooms you call home. He is a treasure!!

This apartment was the third project we worked on with Michael Maher. The first was a different apt in 2002 followed by our beach house in 2004. While we no longer own the first apt, we still love everything in our house and our current apartment. Michael took the time to get to know our personal style and then he expertly guided us to fulfill our vision. His taste is impeccable and his use of color, fabric and along with the selection of the perfect accessories/special pieces (and a few great surprises) created the just the right feeling for each of our homes. His creative eye was invaluable in the design/renovation/construction process and he was most helpful in working with our GC and architects. He is extremely professional, very respectful of project budgets, has terrific resources, and is also a lovely and warm person. We recommend him most highly and more importantly would work with him again.

I started working with Michael 15 years ago. He has helped us redecorate all the major rooms in our house and over the years he willing steps in for much smaller assignments as well. In every case, without exception, he is a delight to work with, has great ideas, and is extremely organized. He respects the budget and thinks creatively about how to use what we already have. I wouldn't consider working with anyone else. I keep in touch with Michael and am constantly impressed by the new work he has done.

Michael is such a pleasure and excellent to work with. I started out with small projects (kitchen chairs, decorative pieces) and just completed a 3 bath/3 bedroom renovation with him. He understands what I like and want, while also having me try new looks that I end up loving. He's a high-end designer with a low key approach which is exactly what I want. He has impeccable taste and resources. I felt confident in everything we selected (lighting, fixtures, carpenters for custom pieces, i.e. office desks). When we started the project in my 70+year old house, I told him I have enough space, just wanted to make better use of it. He gave me such good solutions without changing too much of the "bones" of the house, which is what we wanted.
