Kate met us where we were at in life, which I couldn't have appreciated more, and is part of the reason we decided to work with her and her Mira Jean Designs team on a refresh project for our living room and dining room. We just moved into a single family home as first time homeowners with a toddler and Kate and Julie listened to what are needs were for a toddler friendly design while helping us scope a reasonable budget for the project (i.e., where to splurge vs where to save). They also took note of our family's personality, working in colors and fabrics that reflected us. Our refreshed living room and dining room (where we spend most of our time) is now colorful and fun, in addition to being functional for our lifestyle. We love the end product and highly recommend Mira Jean Designs. We look forward to being repeat customers!

I cannot recommend Kate and Mira Jean Designs enough. Kate took on a massive project with us when we renovated our home, and we could not be happier with the results. She provided insight on details big and small—from furniture to fixtures and finishes—and even worked with our architect and contractor to make sure everything was just right. Kate really listened to what we wanted, came up with a theme for the design, and brought everything we wanted to fruition. I have recommended her to friends and neighbors and will continue to sing her praises. She was always a pleasure to work with (even when I wasn’t), and I promise you will be thrilled with the results of her work!

Working with Kate and her MJD team over the past 18+ months on our long distance whole home renovation and interior design project has been a dream. You could not ask for a more collaborative, pleasant, and creative group of people to help you with your design projects. As an artist and small business owner, this work is very personal for Kate and she really wants to create a unique design to each client's taste. Even though we re-located 7 hours from the DC area, I knew I wanted to work with her again (she helped me with several spaces in my Arlington home) instead of trying to find and build rapport with a designer in my new city. If you're looking for a creative, flexible, drama-free, responsive designer...look no farther! I'm delighted that so much of Kate is reflected in our home from her artwork to her custom textiles to her gorgeous wallpapers.

We worked with Kate and the MJD team upon moving into our new home and before we welcomed our first child just a few months later! The MJD team completely reimagined and transformed a dining/living space off of our kitchen (complete with new built-ins, mantel, window treatments, furnishings, etc.) and crafted a design guide for our primary bedroom that we used to bring their vision to life at our own pace. The entire MJD team was a joy to work with and we're so happy with the final outcome! We appreciated their swift execution on the design presentations, seamless implementation, excellent communication from start to finish, and unwavering commitment to nail every detail. Highly recommend!

MiraJeanDesigns made my dream condo happen! I cannot speak highly enough of the fabulous job that Kate and her team at Mira Jean Designs did on my place! While I could go on for paragraphs, the key highlights are: 1) she and her team are highly personable to work with, professional, and they LISTEN to what you are looking for; 2) they stay WITHIN BUDGET and ON TIME for my project needs - and if anything I requested was going to take longer, they were open about that; and, 3) she works with other trusted tradesman and contractors and can be the "orchestra conductor" of the whole project. For me, this last point was a HUGE benefit and tremendously valuable. Details below. *Context:* I was moving from Boston to DC and required a full renovation of a 2BR/1.5BA condo (including kitchen) but I could not physically be present to oversee the construction due to the demands of my job which required weekly travel. Kate (and team) were recommended to me by a colleague, and while I had never used an interior designer before, I knew that the complexity of a full renovation were too much for me to handle with my job, life, etc., so the price would be worth it - and boy was I right! *The Task:* I needed someone who could make recommendations on almost every aspect of my new home (paint, knobs, lighting, plus even some furniture, rugs...), who could work with a general contractor to do all of the demolition, carpentry, electrical, and remodel - AND to find someone who could do built-ins for what would become my new home office. It was a tall order. *Result:* The condo came out better than I ever imagined - and it was on time and on budget. Kate and her team were a dream to work with. I told her that I only wanted to see 2 or maybe 3 options max for everything and they nailed it. They were so organized and highly communicative, so I never felt like I didn't know what was going on. And they thought of things that never in a million years would I have ever thought about as part of the remodel - like the thing that goes between one floor type and another floor type, or towel bars! She coordinated with an amazing set of craftsmen to create a home that I absolutely love being in. Bottom line: I'd highly recommend working with Kate and her team!!

Kate and her team have been nothing short of amazing. I completely trust her eye and ideas, as she has never steered me wrong. She has worked with us for two bathrooms, a kitchen, an office, a bedroom, selecting artwork, and even the outside of my house. Basically, whenever I have a design quandary, I think “what would Kate do?” Then, if I can’t somehow channel her, I just text and she’s there. She really goes above and beyond. Kate and Jessica at MiraJean Designs have a wonderful approach to the decorating and design process and have been absolutely delightful to work with. From our first phone conversation I knew it was going to be a good fit. Kate clearly spelled out how they work and was able to work with our budget. After working with decorators in the past who turned me loose in a room full of fabrics and said “pick out what you want”, I particularly like that Kate and Jess narrowed down the choices for us so we weren’t overwhelmed. Their fabric selections were spot-on with our tastes and existing color palette. And the rug they found for us is nothing short of exquisite and really elevates our previously ho-hum living room. I’m so grateful to MiraJean for their terrific help and would recommend them to anyone looking for a fabulous decorator.

Kate is amazing!!! She was very easy to work with and could read my style and personality and really listened to my wants and needs. She will work with your budget and is willing to work in phases. She nailed it with her recommendations for my home! I give MiraJean Designs my highest recommendation.

Kate Hougen of Mira Jean Interiors has been a dream to work with. I contacted her a few months ago because I needed some hand holding for a few house projects—everything from a complete re-do of a guest bathroom to putting some finishing touches on other areas. I appreciate that Kate immediately got my vibe. She went off to pick some carpet and window shade options for our master bedroom and, and she hit a home run with her selections. I also appreciate Kate’s calm nature and her ability to focus on one thing at a time as I’m throwing a hundred different thoughts, ideas, and/or questions at her. I have put off hiring a designer to help with these projects for years because the decisions overwhelm me, but Kate has made the process easy every step up the way. I am looking forward to having her help in the future with some more projects and finishing touches.

Kate and Gretchen did an amazing job on my home office. They took an empty room and turned it into an oasis. They took care of everything.

Kate did a beautiful job on the interior design for our beach house. She brought creativity to a small loft room that she turned into a writing/reading nook, ship inspired with space to relax and sleep. With all of the room she took into consideration our aesthetics as well as the functional needs of our imagined guests. Logistics were complex since we weren’t sure quite when the house would be finished and since we’re working at a distance; Kate handled the purchasing delivery schedule, budget, and changing availability of items with grace and excellent communication skills. Highly recommend Kate for her artistic and practical vision as well as her ability to help clients hone their own vision. She’s also so easy to work with!
