Unbelievably terrible--main designer (Jennifer) did not even bother to show up for the most essential meeting where we were to make major design choices, nor did she provide the samples she'd assured us she would have (this was a reoccurring problem with MEP). We didn't realize how problematic Mise En Place was until we changed to another designer who actually showed up when she said she would, easily produced deliverables and samples on time, and got us out of the jam Mise En Place left us in. MEP was a waste of (a lot of) money and time, and added unnecessary stress to our lives and to our contractor's process. We don't post negative reviews unless we feel the company warrants a warning to stay away.

We recently had the pleasure of working with the team at Mise En Place Design on a year-long project remodeling a kitchen, living room, laundry room and master bath in our condominium penthouse. We couldn’t be happier with the results! Our project faced numerous design challenges due to the building’s concrete structure. However, Mise en Place managed everything with skill and creativity. They offered innovative solutions to maximize our space and devised thoughtful workarounds for various design limitations. For instance, they skillfully navigated around post-tension cables encased in the concrete floor to relocate plumbing and designed around immovable concrete shear walls. One of the major advantages of working with Mise en Place is their ability to pair projects with their top-notch contractor partners. We unexpectedly lost the contractor they helped us select due to health reasons a few weeks before work was set to begin. Mise en Place swiftly connected us with two excellent alternatives. Thanks to their quick action and experience, our project was only delayed by two months. From the very beginning, Mise en Place was incredibly responsive, always available to address our concerns and provide updates. Their innovative solutions perfectly aligned with our lifestyle and design goals, enhancing the overall aesthetic of our space. We truly appreciated their collaborative and creative approach. What truly stood out when working with Mise en Place was their respect for our budget. Mise en Place created a stunning design without compromising on quality or exceeding our financial limits. The professionalism and dedication from the entire Mise en Place team made the process as smooth and enjoyable as possible. We were able to trust them to oversee and manage the project while we were long distance which was an amazing thing. I am very pleased to write this excellent review of the work done by the Mise en Place Design team and the supporting craftsman. The advice and counsel they all provided, in a frank yet professional manner was not only expected – but appreciated. We found it “easy” to talk/discuss with the team all aspects of this kitchen redesign effort. There is no apprehension or concern as we ask questions, get advice, etc. Compliments to the Mise en Place Team, along with all the craftsmen on their attention to detail, correcting and making things right (!), and asking us (in a roundabout way) – “do you really want that?” Funny what sounded good yesterday or on the drawing, but when put in perspective, not such a good idea today. Those questions I have been asked I found very applicable and the guidance and counsel I am receiving are excellent. The Mise en Place Design team’s advice concerning contractors is an excellent insight into the industry. And – at the end of the day, you know when one contractor, stops and takes the time to compliment another, things must be going well – and that was the case throughout this effort. Our home had 70 years of questionable diy “updates” in every room when we purchased it. A major whole house remodel was certainly needed. We contacted Mise en Place and Jen called us back immediately. That was the first thing we appreciated about Jen - she was very responsive throughout the whole project. We provided her with photos of styles we liked. Within a short time we had idea boards for materials, architectural drawings, elevations for cabinets, the works! She nailed it. She has a showroom where you can view and select various materials (flooring, cabinets, countertops, etc) which we found to be helpful. She then worked closely with the general contractor during the remodel. We could not be happier with the result. We would hire her again in an instant, but I’m pretty sure we won’t want to change a thing!

Jennifer and her team offer something somewhat unique in this local area: truly custom service and an openness to all of her clients’ budgets, needs, wants, and ideas. We had previous experience remodeling with a kitchen designer/cabinet supplier and knew how important the space planning is to the process. Jennifer brings that skill to the table and so much more. Another reason we chose Jennifer was because of her fantastic contractor referrals. Our contractor was AMAZING - everything you could ever hope for and far from “typical”. We had spoken to a couple of Jennifer’s clients - a neighbor of ours whose project was already complete and a friend of ours whose project was underway so we knew what to expect in terms of working with her. She really does adapt to each of her clients as these projects and personalities were all quite different, yet she managed to nimbly meet challenges and deliver on expectations. Our project planning began in 2019 and was about to get underway in Spring of 2020. It was put on hold until Summer of 2021 and finished in early Fall of 2021 so overall, we spent more time with Jennifer than might have otherwise been expected and really enjoyed working with her and her team throughout. We are absolutely thrilled with our new spaces and love our highly functional and beautiful kitchen.

Jennifer & crew did a fantastic job with our beach front remodel. We had a dated, 1980's kitchen that did nothing to maximize the view. With Jennifer's expertise we were able to expand our view and capture useful storage in our former laundry room. We now have a lovely, functional kitchen, a laundry/butler's pantry, and a refreshed powder room. We've received numerous compliments not just on the look, but also the flow and well designed workspace. All projects run into snags, but not all professionals respond with the flexibility and positive attitude that Jennifer and her team provided. We are very happy with our result, with the way issues were handled, and are looking forward to Mis en Place assisting us with another project in 2022.

Mise en Place is simply amazing! They listened to what I wanted, guided me in the right direction, stayed right on budget and were really fun to work with. Their design studio is breathtaking, and provided me with so many design choices and materials. I was bummed the project finished and I wouldn’t get to see them as often. We would recommend Mise en Place Design for any home project. Jennifer took our ideas and transferred them to drawings to show us what the end product would look like. We were very involved in the design process and appreciated her flexibility and listening to ideas. She offered her expertise in the design and materials and there was an open dialogue between Jennifer and us. She offered ideas that we had not thought of which in the end made the overall remodel just what we had hoped for. She was always available via txt or phone when we had questions. Jennifer has great ideas on kitchen designs. She is easy to work with when it comes to figuring out what the customers needs are.

I found Jennifer, Katie and Jo to be consummate professionals in designing our new kitchen and helping us to pick cabinets, countertops and flooring. The new floor plan works beautifully for us and our storage has improved exponentially. We took out a wall and Jennifer used the new available space to place a kitchen island, something we never had room for before. I found all three of them incredibly easy to work with, willing to listen to our frustrations with our existing kitchen and come up with viable solutions. Would highly recommend!

We had been wanting to start our remodel project over the last 10 years but didn't know where to start. We were referred to Mes En Place Design. Her knowledge of sources for materials (quality cabinets, sites to find all the fixtures, etc.) but mostly Jennifer paired us up with a very talented and reliable contractor and then he had a team of subcontractors- electrician, plumbers, sheetrock guy that were very good. She also referred us to a painter who did a beautiful job through out our house. Her computerized drawings of the new kitchen and master bath floor plan allowed us to visualize the changes and see how it would look when finished. There were some delays that are normal with this type of project but things went pretty smoothly. Our budget was fluid depending on what we wanted and most deadlines were met.

We hired Mise en Place to design our kitchen remodel, and they took it from a standard builder style 90's honey oak to a white Shaker beauty! Totally rearranged appliances to make the space more efficient, amazing flooring, quartz countertops and high quality cabinets finished out the look. They took the time to listen to our wish list, and incorporated everything we asked for. There were some bumps along the way, but what project doesn't have them? Jennifer and her crew took care of everything to make things right, and in the end, we have our dream kitchen!

We hired Mise en place Design to update our kitchen so that it was more functional, efficient and beautiful, we are thrilled with the results. Jennifer did an excellent job mixing different styles, colors, and textures to create a beautiful functional and efficient kitchen that exceeded our expectations. This was our first interior renovation; she helped us through the process and made it painless. 1.Hiring a contractor: She provided us with a list of contractors that she had experience working with and helped to walk me through the process of questions to ask and things to consider when hiring a contractor so that we had a good fit. But we were not limited to those contractors. 2.Decisions: Jennifer has a good eye an a good understanding of our style so that when picking colors, door knobs, countertops or backsplash, she had the choices pared down so that the process was fun rather than overwhelming and I was confident with my choice. 3.Ordering Materials: She worked with the contractor to make sure the cabinets were ordered on time so it did not delay the project after demolition and not too soon, where as we would have had to store them. She is very knowledgeable about the products and materials and has a number of suppliers that she works with so she can order the material to meet our needs and budget. 4.Plans: She communicated with he contractor during the project stage so that we did not have to take time off of work during the renovation. 5.Communication: She was always professional, and easy to communicate with at all hours of the day. Her plans were detailed and when errors occurred, she was quick to make it correct at no extra charge. I highly recommend Mise en Place Design and look forward to hiring them again for our next project.

I interviewed a number of designers for our kitchen remodel and we ended up going with Jennifer because I thought she was personable, our design aesthetic would be easy for her to run with, and she had a defined process that made me feel really comfortable with what to expect moving forward. Unfortunately, my expectations were not met. The process was broken into 3 large phases and essentially billed by each phase. The first phase went fairly smoothly - the initial design and starting to look at materials. We were happy with the ultimate design and the ease of making minor changes along the way. We did have some communication gaps - we brought this up at a meeting and I requested that she err on the side of over-communication. This conversation resulted in a short term uptick in communication but it quickly petered out. There were instances where I specifically requested they provide more economical alternatives to what I had already found (ex: pendant lights, bathroom vanity) and I receive no response or a very belated response in the negative. I also had to supply things like my appliance model numbers and other material selections to her multiple times which made me question her organizational skills. She had set the expectation that when we engaged her services in November 2017, a February 2018 start date shouldn’t be a problem - she provided that timeline without pressure from us. We weren’t in a huge hurry and were willing to wait for all the planning to be complete and for the best contractor for the job. We began interviewing contractors at the end of November, beginning of December and we ran into issues regarding the timeline. Contractors were slow to provide bids and were generally not available immediately. We didn’t begin until April 2018. While this wasn’t ultimately an issue for us, I would assume that an industry professional would have a better sense of the current climate for local contractors. I understand that we complicated matters somewhat by wanting to self-perform some things in order to keep costs down and finding someone that was responsive to that added to the issues; but we were able to secure a contractor that she recommended and had worked with before. The second phase of the design process is material selection, finalization, and ordering as well as finalizing the budget. She provided a quote for cabinets but we ended up sourcing them elsewhere to save some money (and are very happy with the result). I did most of the sourcing on my own. She did provide the flooring source and the counter fabricator, though we selected the countertop on our own. The countertop was quite an ordeal. While shopping around for it, Jennifer sent us to a source (over an hour away) that had ended up moving location (not really her fault) then when we finally showed up at the correct location, they did not have the one sample we were there to see. It was a very discouraging experience and left a bad taste in our mouths. In addition to not feeling like we were getting a lot of support with material selections, we never really felt like she respected our budget. It seemed like an inconvenience for her to have to work within its constraints. She didn’t offer solutions and when we suggested solutions, she made me feel like they were inferior and below her standards. One of the appeals to hiring her was that on her website, she mentioned working with and accommodating all budgets but I did not feel like that was the case in all actuality. The third and final phase is the actual project management. She had very little involvement at this point. She reached out when the flooring needed to be picked up, and when the counters came up. She never checked in to see how things were going. I believe she might have come to the site once while I was not there, but that was it. At this point in the process, I would not have trusted her judgement on making decisions on our behalf and being our advocates but this is the critical time where we really wanted a designer to step up and deal with issues. We both work full time demanding jobs away from the home and have a hard time fielding calls from the contractor and having to make decisions without being on site. I also had to work from home a few days to be there for certain deliveries. Again, not a huge deal, but that was not my expectation at the onset. I found her to be reactive to our needs and inquiries where I really was looking for someone to be proactive and help guide me through the process before issues arise. I have never remodeled a kitchen before and was looking for expertise. Unfortunately, my inexperience led to a few minor issues - delays due to not having materials on site, running out of certain things, having late night Home Depot runs so the contractor has what they need for the next day - all things that could easily have been avoided through a better planning process. I had envisioned that Jennifer, our contractor, and I would have a very tight knit bond by the end of this and open communication between all parties but that wasn’t the case. I suspect that Jennifer recognized her reduced involvement in the project as she only ever billed us for the first stage. I had vague suspicions that maybe she was trying to minimize her bill as we were very budget conscious but if she had delivered everything she said she would, she would have been worth every penny. At this point, I don’t regret working with her and I’m happy with most of what she did provide, but she fell very short of my overall expectations.

Jennifer is an incredible designer. She understands how to take a client’s vision and find a unique, beautiful solution that is within budget. I refuse to work with anyone else on my design needs.

As we head into the New Year, I am reflecting on the year long journey of our home remodel. We began our journey not knowing where to begin, yet found ourselves wondering the home show hoping to find some kind of inspiration. By chance I came across Jennifer’s beautifully designed booth, which caught my eye right away. The colors and designs she put together were exactly what i was looking for. Over the next few weeks Jennifer saw our project and assured me me that we could accomplish the project and stay within our budget. She directed me to her core group of contractors and there we found our team. Every step along the project Jennifer offered her ideas, plans and designs and helped me make the best decisions that worked within my budget. And yes there were times I wished things would have gone faster but Jennifer was always there to remind me that it’s a process and it takes time, that in its self was invaluable. The pressure and stress of a remodel was not always on me and it was nice to know that Jennifer always had my back. Now that our project is complete I have a beautifully designed HOME. Jennifer’s showroom allowed me the opportunity to invision my dream home and with her direction I now live in my dream home. Money well spent! Thanks Jennifer your amazing.!!

We lost our house in a fire in June 2016. We came to Jennifer with a concept of a floor plan, and my wife had hundreds of pictures of things she wanted in a house. Jennifer took those ideas and ran with them. She helped us fit all the rooms we wanted in the second story floor plan. Then she came up with a full set of construction drawings, including lighting and electrical plans and cabinet elevations (These plans were later stamped and signed by a engineer). Then she helped us make the million decisions needed for building from scratch. She learned my wife’s style (because honestly... i have no sense of style) and then narrowed choices down to things we’d like. Cabinet style and colors. Plumbing fixtures. The type of tile and engineered hardwood floors and carpet and carpet pad. Lighting fixtures. Countertop materials. Backsplashes. And hundreds of other small things, down to the cabinet pulls. She helped us find things that would fit into our budget but still look amazing. While we had a great GC (John), Jennifer was not an official project manager, but even still she coordinated a carpet installer, and the countertop fabrication and installers. When a tile installer that I found did an awful job on our shower, Jennifer was at the meeting that helped us get a near refund on all the money we had paid him, then helped us find a good tile installer to rip it out and install it properly. We must have sent thousands of texts over the past 15 months asking about all kinds of small things. Including at least two changes to floor plans after the framing had already been done. Most of these were text messages from me starting with “Have I ever told you that you were my favorite designer ever?” followed by the request and ended with a “please don’t hate me.” We’re very happy we hired Jennifer to work on our project. She was easy to work with, has great style, and we wouldn’t have the amazing house we have now without her.

We were referred to Jennifer for our flooring needs and learned she was so much more. She designed a beautiful kitchen and bathroom for our newly renovated home. Her professionalism and quality of work is exceptional. The project remained on budget and deadlines were met all the way along. We had a couple of hiccups related to installation of cabinets due to delays on the general contractor's side, causing some issues with trim and cabinet pulls. I would recommend having Jennifer on site during installation. Jennifer is very talented.

When my husband and I came to the decision that we were finally going to do something with the virtually unfinished space over our garage, we knew that we would need some help and guidance. There were a few potentially project killing issues in the space and we needed help determining how we could deal with them. Additionally, having done home remodeling projects ourselves over the years, we didn't want that experience this time around. We wanted qualified and skilled people to work their magic. I had been following Mise en Place Design on Facebook for about a year and decided to reach out to Jennifer. From the minute we met her, we knew we had found our person. Aside from having all of the qualities you want in a service provider, the one that resonated the most with me from the outset was her calmness. She listened, she took notes, and she considered what we wanted. Then she went to work. Our project needed to serve an immediate need - my work studio - and a later down the road use - a guest space. Budget, of course, was a top issue. Efficient spending was paramount to us. When unexpected issues arose with pre-existing bad construction, we had to regroup on some design elements to free up funds. Jennifer was quick to offer up new choices (and as it turned out, even better than the first ones.) Jennifer guided and collaborated with us. She stayed true to OUR vision and helped make it a reality. She worked well with the contractor, and was there for support when things got a little shaky (no fault of anyone involved with the project.) I typing this review while I sit in my beautiful new studio work space! My clients love the calm vibe of the space, and seem to linger a little longer in the beautiful bathroom. Highly recommend Jennifer and Mise en Place Design!

I would like to take a moment to recognize Jennifer for the outstanding design work she did on our kitchen project. Not only did she create a wonderful design, she stayed committed to the project throughout the entire process. When issues arose with the contractors, Jennifer was there to deal with them, and get the work back on schedule. She worked with the granite company, the suppliers for flooring and cabinets, and was available any time we had a question, or a concern about the work. Jennifer is very responsive to your needs and desires in formulating a plan for your project. When those hired to perform the work get a bit out of line, she has no problem advocating on your behalf. My husband and I hired Jennifer to do a major downstairs remodel as well as new carpeting upstairs and new colors throughout the whole house. The remodel involved knocking out a major wall, all new cupboards and appliances, hardwood flooring downstairs to replace carpeting, a couple of new windows, and new tile in entryway. Also building a large island, banquet seating built in new kitchen area and living room, a complete built in desk, quartz countertops, shiplapping in the living room etc. Jennifer is a pleasure to work with, as she gets to know each person and their lifestyle, and her taste and attention to details is exquisite! She also helped us decide on some particular home decor ideas, furniture, curtains, lamps, and ceiling lighting. She was always respectful of our budget, even though we willing went over our initial budget, to get all that we desired. I would highly recommend Jennifer to everyone interested in changing or updating their home. It was updating time for us, since we had lived in our home 21 years, and the home was almost 24 years old. We have loved working with Jennifer on an ongoing project for our home. We purchased our home in 2014 and it was seriously in need of some changes. Mise en Place Design was an integral part of our team providing interior design and documentation for a large beach resort on the island of Kauai. I was planning to add windows where I had none, so I was feeling the need to have someone with a practiced eye BEFORE the holes were cut in my walls! Jennifer was terrific to work with, very accurate and organized. My windows have brightened up my rooms just as I thought they would and the result is just what I was looking for. She also helped me complete many other projects that were unfinished and I couldn't have done it without her. She communicated with the contractor, stayed on top of the project progress, and took care of the details. I was very stuck on interior colors and she helped me move confidently to different choices. After several attempts by myself to create a functional design, we decided we needed help; a lot of help. Jennifer was able to take the vision that was stuck in my head and bring it to fruition. There was a lot involved in our remodel. Our house was built in 1930, so structural and plumbing issues came up. Jennifer was able to configure the design to overcome these issues and kept the design true to what we wanted the final product to look like.
