⭐ Bottom Line On Top Despite hiring the firm before construction began and investing significant time and money over 18 months, only a portion of my 3,900 sq ft home was furnished, several rooms remain empty, and I have had to re‑do and re‑buy many elements of the design. The long‑term impact has been substantial. ⭐ Full Review I began working with Martha O’Hara Interiors in early 2022 on a once‑in‑a‑lifetime new‑build home on Cape Cod. The firm was hired before construction began, with the intention that they would guide the interior design from beginning to end. I trusted them to lead the design of a new home that was deeply important to me and my husband, and the preliminary discussions made it appear that they had a structured, well‑defined process. Unfortunately, the experience did not align with what I expected for a project of this scale. Early in the engagement, we moved directly into selecting furniture, fabrics, tile, and fixtures before establishing a clearly defined and mutually agreed‑upon design direction or palette. While the designer may have had an internal vision, it was never articulated in a way that allowed me to understand how the choices connected or how to evaluate them against a shared plan. Without that foundation, the selections felt disconnected and ad hoc, and it became difficult to make decisions confidently. I provided a total budget just under $100K for a 3,900 sq ft home. At no point did I receive a detailed budget by category or a clear plan for how much of the home could realistically be completed within that budget. Billing was also difficult to track, as charges were presented simply as 50% deposits on furnishings. I eventually created my own spreadsheet to reconcile spending, but by then the project had already exceeded what I intended to invest. Although I was told to expect two to three iterations per room, the number of revisions became far greater, and the process grew increasingly overwhelming. I raised concerns and reached out to the owner multiple times, but the underlying issues remained. Additional designers were sent to our home at my expense, yet the process did not improve. After 18 months and approximately $140K spent, only a portion of the home was furnished, several rooms still have no furnishings at all, and many of the selections that were made did not come together cohesively. As a result, I have had to spend considerable time and additional money re‑doing and re‑buying elements of the design just to move the project forward. It has now been 2.5 years since occupancy, and I am still working to finish and correct the spaces. The long‑term impact of the process has been substantial (both emotionally and financially), and based on my experience, I would not choose to work with this firm again.

Love my new family room! I worked with Emily Anderson remotely during the pandemic and she helped me redesign my family room (all furniture, lighting, carpet, vinyl plank flooring and wall color). She was a star when it came to understanding my project, sourcing products and ensuring that everything was installed correctly. My needs were well understood and with a little help from FedEx, we were able to ship samples back and forth with ease. She also did a wonderful job dealing with more complicated aspects of my project due to the age of my home (1890s row house) - furniture had to clear a 25" wide stairwell and parking permits were needed for all deliveries. Words can't express how fabulous this team is. The CEO replied to my email inquiry on the same day. She made time for us despite the fact that they were booked solid. Emily and Jen, our design team, understood our vision and made a huge project with an overwhelming number of decisions and details very easy (and fun)! They are professional, talented, and know how to get things done the right way. I couldn’t recommend Martha O’hara enough, especially Elizabeth Darth! She has been so helpful in the decision making process. Every time I was dreading selecting things (tile, plumbing fixtures, lights, hardware) because i felt so overwhelmed Elizabeth came in and saved the day! So impressed by Martha O'Hara Interiors! I am doing a custom new home build and I was feeling overwhelmed by the sheer number or choices for paint, tile, fixtures, etc. They were wonderfully in-tune with my vision of a Storybook meets Farmhouse home. I loved their selections and I'm sure the house will look amazing when it's complete.
