About Us

R.M & Company is located in Salem, MA on the North Shore of Boston as an interior design business. It was formed with the foundation that effective interior design is building and nurturing an interior that our client’s truly love and we are proud of creating. Besides Ryan’s background in interior design, he also has worked for Boston’s best lighting showrooms. He is a skilled lighting specialist, having this unique marriage of lighting and interior design, sets us apart. Great lighting design gives a space warmth and character. With this philosophy, we have been successful and now celebrating our seventh year in business. Our design style is contemporary and transitional in the respect we design for now, not what interiors have been. We use a great basis of classic design elements that are used in a different way or a new function. Contemporary design is historic, bold, vintage, funky, classic, and minimal yet sophisticated. This mix of eclectic materials makes each space different and is bursting with character. We love hunting and picking for those unique items in unconventional locations and creating custom pieces that are one of kind. The second part of our business is service. We know that it’s not easy to piece a project together. It is equal parts vision, organization, and completion. But this process can be fun! We work with our clients to provide honesty, transparency, and communication from concept to placing the final accessory. The design process is collaborative and working with the best builders, architects, and craftsmen helps our clients find their style.

My husband and I wanted to install recessed lighting and were very apprehensive about the project because we've seen so many recessed light installations that have a less than ideal outcome - shadowy faces if you're sitting in the wrong place, hot / very bright spots. We spent a lot of time doing our own research and met with other lighting designers who didn't seem to listen. The we met Ryan and what a relief!! He listened to our concerns, patiently answered our many, many, many questions and provided us with a plan tailored our needs. Phase one of the plan was for the living room - it incorporated antique sconces, recessed LED lights and a beautiful center light. The living room installation was recently completed and we LOVE everything. Ryan's recommendations have been exactly on target and we couldn't be happier. Highly recommend Ryan's services and we're looking forward to phase two of our project! * the project cost below is inclusive of the lighting materials, electrician and patch & paint work.

We hired RM&Co. to help provide guidance on lighting options for a room in our new home. The space is technically a den but we've been using as a combo living/dining room combo. The room did not have any ceiling or wall mounted light and limited electrical overall. Ryan was a pleasure to work with: he was professional and presented options for us that captured what we needed in the room, stuck to our budget and even considered a potential future re-model. The work came out great and, no surprise, his sub-contractors were also awesome!

Ryan is a knowledgeable, thoughtful,, experienced professional who works efficient and with good cheer. He has helped me extensively with lighting design in both a kitchen and bath renovation. I am an informed consumer who carefully shops for good prices. Ryan has been an invaluable source of good ideas about design challenges both large and small. I wouldn't use anyone else as a lighting designer and have happily and often recommended him to friends. He has the kindness and good humor to coach me through putting fixtures together, making decisions about the proper height of hanging fixtures above a table, purchasing new switches and switch plates to match my wall color. Life would be easier and happier if every consultant were as capable and friendly as Ryan is.

We are building a custom house on the water. Ryan was a tremendous help in determining the various lighting fixtures for all the rooms in the house. We needed 12 outside lights, the one we chose was around $350 each. †hat adds ups quickly. He did the research and found just what we were looking for at a third the cost. We cannot wait to see it all installed. Thank you Ryan!

Ryan could only be described as the consummate professional. Not only is he a wonderfully talented designer, but he is also organized and always prepared to make informed selections for his clients. Everyday I work with design professionals, and assist with home furnishing selections. Over the years, I have found that so many designers seem woefully unprepared to properly handle product selections for their client. Ryan is a breath of fresh air.
