We engaged Robert's services to make our UWS apartment look bigger using design, color and furnishings. He designed a new look with minimal construction that had a significant impact on the space. He completed by choosing furnishings that give a sense of space, colors that enhance this look, and very close attention to detail that resulted in a very spacious, stylish contemporary look. He does all of this in a very collaborative way, respectful of our wishes and style. He has countless resources - all excellent quality. He is genuinely dedicated to achieving what the client wants, and definitely delivers!

I have worked with Robert Kaner since 2008 when he oversaw the complete renovation of my four bedroom 3300 SF apartment on the upper east side of Manhattan. Bob is a pleasure to work with -- he has a wonderful design sense but isn't too pushy, he is quick to adapt to his clients' needs and sensibilities and conforms his recommendations accordingly, he is punctual and extremely well organized, he is not pushy or intrusive, he brings his years of legal training to bear as well which can be helpful in certain negotiations or contract reviews. I have used Bob again after 2008 several times to furnish some rooms in my apartment and update some additional rooms which we didn't get to in 2008. I am so thankful to have found the perfect designer in Bob and would recommend him wholeheartedly. In fact, since working with Bob I have referred him to several friends who have all become fans and loyal customers.

About 5 years ago, Robert re-designed my 1 bedroom NYC apartment (a cookie cutter apartment at first) and I am thrilled!! He is all about quality and perfection - no detail left unfinished. He and his team are incredibly responsive and attentive to detail. Through careful consideration of color and space, he was able to make my small apartment seem larger and also to make it more functional for how I live. Each piece of furniture is sized perfectly (something I struggle with - I often found myself buying things that were too large or too small for my space). The pieces are all interesting and different on their own yet come together beautifully. From the beginning, he listened to my likes and dis-likes and provided a curated selection of options. When trying to decorate on my own, I was overwhelmed by the wide range of options - from furniture to fabric. Robert changed all that - he listened to what I liked disliked and came up with selections to choose from. I originally asked him to re-design my living room only: after I saw what he could do, I asked for help with my bedroom. Using my existing furniture, he added a rug, drapes, lighting and bench to pull it all together into a more sophisticated, cohesive room. I couldn't be happier.

Bob Kaner is a hard to find gem in the work of New York renovation and design. I count myself lucky to have found Bob; he is highly professional, organized, and undogmatic in his design ideas. I first worked with Bob during the 18 month renovation of my 3500 sq ft apartment in 2010. Since then he has designed and overseen the landscaping of our terraces, and designed and managed smaller scale renovations (a bathroom, etc.) He is an absolute pleasure to deal with and his greatest skills are his unflagging enthusiasm, meticulous organization, and respectful attitude while working on design ideas. He will be a great partner and collaborator (if you want to take an active role), is a wonderful resource for materials from stone to lamps to door hardware. He will go the extra mile for you as he did for me when he spent hours (charging me a fraction of his time) at the stone yard matching slabs for a bathroom and fireplace surround, producing detailed drawings, and camping out at the stone cutters' shop, ensuring that every piece was perfect. And it was, and they give me great pleasure every time I see them! I would hire Bob again for any job, big or small. I cannot recommend him highly enough.

We hired Robert Kaner Interior Design for two residential projects: a gut renovation of an Upper East 3-bedroom post-war apartment in 2007, and the interior design of a 6-bedroom Water Mill, NY residence in 2012. We could not be any more satisfied with both projects. Bob and his staff are extremely professional. His presentations and materials are meticulously prepared, and in each project he prepared comprehensive budgets and timelines so that we could make informed decisions. For the apartment project, Bob and his staff collaborated with both our architect and contractor, and they worked wonderfully as a team. He has an excellent eye, impeccable client service, and highly professional follow-through. Bob's recommendations for furnishings came from a variety of sources - custom made, vintage and store bought, all as needed to fit our budget and priorities. He is a great listener, highly organized and attentive to every detail. We've recommended him to friends for projects and they have been as satisfied as we are with Bob and his team.

There is no other designer I would even think about using. First, his taste is unassailable. He has an eye for color and for proportion. Second, every client is important. He treats a big job and a small job the with the same degree of personal attention. Third, he narrows the choices down for you. Fourth, he is not afraid to express his opinion even if it differs from the client's. Fourth, he is innovative and comes up with solutions for space problems. In my apartment which was new construction built to be loft like I had doors in a long hallway and each door was a different size and width. Bob came up with an ingenious design for floor to ceiling panels that covered the entire length of the hall disguising the problem of the doors. Fifth, he is transparent and by that I mean it is very clear what you are paying for and why. Sixth, nothing happens without your sign off. Sixth, he will mix custom pieces, with on line auction pieces, with Room & Board pieces. He has a great gift for maximizing the visual impact of a room by mixing up his sources.

i have been working with robert (bob) kaner for about 1 year on 2 major projects for my top level condo building. bob and his staff have been "a dream" to work with! bob's function was to completely design our lobby as well as "event space" ... suppling furnishings, lighting, colors and most importantly, following up in every detail. his work has been so wonderfully receives that i/we have contracted him for 2 more projects.

We did a gut renovation and combination of 2 pre war NYC apartments. We selected RKID based on their amazing design portfolio. Before signing on, more than any other firm we interviewed, they also spent a great deal of time explaining the design and construction process. We were so incredibly luck to have found RKID. The design was exactly what we wanted, combining old pre war elements with the modern. The team is also extremely professional and responsive. They were there every step of the way and really made it an enjoyable project for us. Robert also designed custom furniture and helped select artwork that really pulled everything together. We now have a home we really love to come home to!
