About Us

Susan Sutter Interiors is a boutique design firm, specializing in residential interior design. The firm has experience with new construction, renovation, and historic properties. We provide full-service design from concept to creation, making sure no detail is overlooked, from full-scale remodel plans down to the accessories and accent pillows. We strive to help others surround themselves in spaces that reflect their personalities and meet their family's needs. Susan Sutter Interiors believes that interior design should work with your life and be beautiful, functional, and bring joy to you and others. Susan, originally from North Carolina, has experience with new construction, renovation, and historic properties. She trained with the New York Institute of Art and Design and has a love of beautiful rooms, natural light, and color. After ten years of helping her friends and family achieve gorgeous spaces in their own homes, she launched her interior design firm to help others surround themselves in spaces that reflect their personalities and meet their family's needs. Susan and her team are fabulous and I cannot recommend them enough! Susan designed our primary living spaces in a new build home and did an excellent job creating spaces that are beautiful, functional, comfortable, and very “us.” She made the process incredibly easy, worked collaboratively with our builder and other vendors, and made sure everything came together seamlessly in the end.

We can’t say enough great things about working with Susan Sutter who was the Designer for our Arlington Virginia home renovation. My husband and I decided we wanted to remodel our house by knocking down walls to create an open floor plan on our first floor, renovating our kitchen, living room, powder room, while also touching up ~70% of the remainder of our house. Having never done a renovation, we had no idea where to begin and felt overwhelmed, so we evaluated interior designers online. From the beginning, at the initial consultation, Susan was extremely kind and actively listened to all we were hoping to accomplish with the space which was a key factor to us choosing to work with her. Throughout our engagement, she was very transparent when talking about costs and timelines which was so helpful in making such big decisions. At our first design presentation, she was very receptive to any feedback we had and put our satisfaction above all throughout the process. We can happily say that Susan made our dream home come to life. Her attention to detail and her ability to create a custom space for each of her clients is far beyond what we could have hoped for. In addition, the level of communication that she holds between her clients as well as with the primary contractor, and her support in making emotional decisions is fantastic. She keeps everyone on the same page and keeps things moving forward smoothly. We cannot thank her enough and will absolutely be seeking her help for any future projects we decide to pursue. We hired Susan to design and decorate our home office. She did this remotely because we live in rural Virginia. Because she is organized and meticulous, as are her contractors, this was possible. We are thrilled with the result! Not only do I like her design sensibility, I appreciated her willingness to be discovery-driven. We had a plan for the area rug, for example, but as the office came together, and we wanted to try something different, she was willing to adapt. A back-and-forth process. We would definitely hire her again–––and plan on doing so!

Susan helped us with a kitchen, master bath, and master bedroom remodel and a significant remodel of the first floor and our front porch. Susan redesigned our kitchen into a more functional space and gave us the island we wanted. Her design of our master bath was also excellent. She found us a top notch, detail oriented builder. She also oversaw every aspect of the remodel and worked closely with the builder so that the process was very seamless for us. She helped us make some great selections including beautiful fixtures that we would never have found on our own.
