About Us

The interior design firm, Suzanne Knowlton Designs is a boutique home and garden design specialist. She has a mantra based on the singer Sam Smith's great song "I do it for the LOVE". Suzanne opened her firm in 2006 in Sonoma, California after two years of landscape design. She then went on and completed her degree at The New York School of Interior Design. Since then she has remodeled, built and designed numerous homes and gardens. She has all the tools at her disposal to provide an educated, intuitive, and practical approach to problem-solving. In addition, her first career of opening, orchestrating and operating 8 restaurants made her a natural at restaurant and kitchen remodeling and design, as well as project management. Suzanne chose this career because she believes that design matters. Every aspect of her work reflects YOU, the CLIENT, and seeks to satisfy your comfort, happiness, and to promote your well being by bringing beauty and balance to your lifestyle. As a professional interiors photographer, I had the opportunity to photograph three different properties for Suzanne. To my eye, her work was consistently inspiring and creative, from designing large elegant spaces, to tackling tough remodels that turned out beautifully. And beyond her talent as a designer, I observed that she enjoys very warm, close relationships with her clients. When we arrived at each client's home, it was as if the homeowners were welcoming back a beloved member of their family. I personally found her to be a real pleasure to work with, and I hope to photograph more of her beautiful work in the future.

Suzanne made us see the potential of our backyard. She had ideas for turning an eyesore (an ugly shed) into an asset, by moving it and making it work for us. She understands our needs and wants for the space and got us excited by a project we saw as drudgery. She has great knowledge of plants and a beautiful sense of color and text. We'd like her to work with us on some interior projects after we do the landscaping.

So Happy to have met Suzanne Knowlton. We built our dream-house in Sonoma county and wanted to create a sophisticated wine country home. Suzanne did layouts of the downstairs, made color suggestions, and basically instigated an incredible look to our new home. She listens and is extremely easy to work with! We shopped together for furniture and found all sorts of interesting pieces on line and on sale. This woman loves to shop and has an excellent eye for quality. And, she always kept my budget in mind. We had so much fun together, that I asked her to help us with a floating home in Sausalito, which was undergoing a complete remodel. She helped with decisions from the ground-floor up. She came up with a bright, clean, comfortable maritime look. We now get many compliments, and enjoy our weekends on the waterfront. Suzanne has the energy to take on whatever comes her way, from a complete remodel to furniture, cabinets and fixtures. She is the BEST!!

We met Suzanne when our family stayed at her guesthouse in Sonoma for our family vacation. Her guesthouse is a mix of beautiful and elegant styles that all worked together to make an exceptional wine country experience. We were just starting to make some big changes to our home in Glendale, CA and we needed someone who saw things the way we did. We have modern tastes but had a traditional home. We wanted to mix the two styles together but still maintain warmth and comfort. Suzanne did layouts and made suggestions on the first meeting that were very helpful. We shopped together and made some incredible antique purchases that will stay in our family forever. Suzanne also made custom pieces to fit our living areas and color scheme. She did color boards and made suggestions and helped me to gain confidence in my own choices! It was a wonderful experience! I would recommend her to anyone who wants a mature, well-rounded designer who's in the business because she enjoys helping people reach their goals.
