At the Guest House Studio we strongly believe that the spaces we inhabit are not just buildings we have placed our “stuff” in, but rather they are a personal testimony to who we are and how we want to live. The home is where we celebrate life’s most precious moments and seek shelter for its worst. That’s why, at the Guest House Studio, we strive to not only create thoughtful and functional spaces but also ones that are uniquely crafted for those who inhabit it. Our principal designer, Christyn Dunning has over ten years of experience in the interior design and construction industry, with a degree in Interior Architecture. With several connections to contractors and builder’s in the area, The Guest House Studio operates as a design build firm for many of their clients. Our goal is to make the renovation or new build experience as stress free as possible! Which is why we act as a liaison between our clients wishes and their contractors. Since opening its doors in 2014, the studio has won several awards for its designs and has been featured in several printed and online publications, gaining recognition for Christyn's fresh, sophisticated style and attention to detail. As a design firm, we believe in combining patterns and textures, embracing the new while honoring the old, and conceptualizing a space from its foundation to furniture, as it is all an integral part of the process. Because of this, our designs have become recognizable for their fresh, modern and yet collected aesthetics. Our design expertise will help to ensure that when the process is finished, you will have a space that is functional, aesthetically pleasing, and so very you.

Christyn was recommended to us by our builder. We were a bit worried about using a professional to help us design the interior of our home after a bad experience in the past, but working with Christyn was wonderful. She helped us figure out our style and came up with many great ideas. She listened to our ideas and those of our builder and worked with us until we were all happy. She was willing to work with pieces we already had and to allow us to be involved as much or as little as we wanted. The end result is magnificent and we couldn’t have done it without her.

Christyn has incredible taste, is the consummate professional, and made what could’ve been a huge headache into a super fun project with an incredible outcome. She managed all of the design and construction work (with the contractor we hired based on her experience with them) - from the grand plans to permitting to the tiny little details. All while we were home in Seattle! I’d use her again and again and recommend her to any and all!

Christyn was the designer, creator and project manager for the complete transformation of our Isle of Palms home. Christyn managed to transform a badly run down, neglected rental property into the most stylish, comfortable, and beautiful coastal home we could ever imagine. Christyn’s impeccable taste, meticulous attention to detail and calm demeanor accomplished all this on time and within budget. She completely surpassed all expectations. We could not be happier with her work and receive endless compliments on our wonderfully renovated island home. We love spending time there and look forward to an ongoing friendship with Christyn!

I met Christyn on another project years earlier and loved her work. She's down to earth, easy going and I fell in love with her style. It was the laid back look I was going for and she nailed it. I never hired a decorator before so I was nervous about the whole procedure. I'm still in awe when I look into the rooms in our home how beautifully done they are. The art work she picked too is gorgeous (and affordable) and sized perfectly (which I couldn't have done myself). She stayed within our budget and I highly recommend her! When it comes to a whole house, kitchen, bath, or living space, Guest House is the go to design firm. I have yet to meet a better designer in Charleston that provides detailed plans on all design aspects. This not only makes it easier for us but the client as well.

We needed to update our small den/study. After a one-hour consultation with Christyn, and a few visits to the fabric store, our relatively small project was completed in a smooth and efficient manner, staying within budget and meeting deadline. The project involved repainting walls, ceiling and a large floor-to-ceiling bookcase; reupholstering a sofa and two chairs; installing custom-made draperies; and purchasing a new rug. What an amazingly wonderful transformation! Christyn not only met our expectations, but also exceeded them by creating a very attractive, inviting and larger-feeling/looking living space. Christyn is impressively seasoned in her design knowledge, experience and expertise. She is professional, personable, dependable and trustworthy, plus an absolute delight to work with. Her designs are completely flexible to help re-do your home on a small or large budget. She even helped me to find ways to obtain a high-end look without spending high-end dollars.
