Claudia Mahecha Interiors

One of the luckiest things that happened to us in the States was meeting Claudia Mahecha (The Residents, San Rafael, CA) and taking the momentous decision of asking her to help us as we grappled with antique English furniture that was way too small and fragile for our newly-acquired Californian house with its extraordinary views from the top of a hill and its wide airy sunny rooms with more space than either of us Londoners had ever known. Our brief to Claudia was to use what little we had brought with us and to help us to understand how to create a beautiful space. We could not have found anyone better. She understood that any furniture we bought would eventually need to fit into a narrow London house. She took our old furniture and revitalised it by setting it all next to newly acquired and newly created pieces that she sourced from NYC and LA. We had for ages been trying to understand how to bring Italian furniture to San Francisco. She researched, she located each item, she arranged the shipment and the insurance. She did everything for us. We could not have done this ourselves. Understanding bright California sunshine she found paint colours that brought calm and stillness and peace. For our huge kitchen she found a gorgeous golden leather Italian sofa which we would never - on our own - have had the courage to buy. Looking into the kitchen from the hallway the entire room glowed yellow and gold and that sofa now brings a beam of Californian sun into our London kitchen. She found an artist to paint a bedroom ceiling, a sculptor in Oakland and a marvellous Electrician. She sent our oil paintings to a picture framer in San Francisco whose light touch transformed them. She found a delicate, filigree brass tree sculpture to sit easily on a wall above the guest room bed. We have it still. ‘Tis a source of wonder and conversation in our Central London home. Claudia Mahecha made every room sing. She transformed the house on the hill into our dream of a home. And we can never thank her enough.

Claudia Mahecha is an excellent designer. We have been working with her for a few years now in our ever changing, ever challenging redesign and upgrades of our 1908 manse in San Francisco. Claudia is VERY patient with us in our sometimes quirky requests. I highly recommend her services.
