Our extensive project with Heather and Sean at Tokan Interiors encompassed a significant renovation—revamping three bathrooms, painting the interior walls, refinishing kitchen cabinets, and refreshing the flooring throughout our entire house—and spanned nearly a year. Heather's expertise as the interior designer for our bathrooms was great. She collaborated closely with us, ensuring that every detail reflected our personal style while seamlessly integrating modern elements into our late 90's decor. Our home was transformed thanks to Heather's keen eye for design and her dedication to delivering beyond our expectations. Working with Tokan Interiors has been a pleasure, and we very happy with the results.

Tokan construction did our master bathroom (galley style) and it was a grossly disappointing experience. I was so excited for them to redo our space based on the photos of their work and so sad at how our project turned out. Mirrors and fixtures were mounted without us being asked what height and location we wanted, the toilet is sitting on shims and covered with an inch of caulk, grouting and tile need to be redone, the shower glass is mounted improperly and the shower floor needs to be redone as the sloping is poorly done and causes water pooling in the far corner away from the drain which has stained the grout. All this on top of being quoted 3-4 weeks yet the final job was finished at nearly 9 weeks. Shawn was juggling multiple projects at once and would consistently show up much later than promised and leave early to handle other commitments or simply be a no-show.

A great couple but had major issues on the design side. On the construction side the professional was prompt and very knowledgable. They ended up going over 3x design period agreed upon. The communication process was minimal and they were unable to push the project along. We ended up terminating my contract with them and I was left with design documents unusable and barely completed even after all that time. -- In response, I wont got into all the details: We had agreed upon a shorter timeframe to get the design work complete (1 month not 3). I had already had a presentation with design inspirations and mood board prior to meeting this team. This timeframe was not a issue for other designers Ive contacted when I was going through a quote phase. After 4 months I was still delivered a incomplete design file. After 4 months of trying to get timelines, design files, permits, and construction started I was notified that the budget was now not doable. Frustrated I decided it was best we parted ways. As a homeowner I was ready to give them the budget to start immediately but was met with constant pushback for various reasons and lack of communication. I ended up going to a different team where we were able to start getting permits and construction going in a month. Again a very hospitable couple but perhaps they were too busy with other projects and I was getting strung along.

It is unfortunate that you felt compelled to write this review 7 months after you were partially refunded the design fee. I am a little shocked because you loved the design, and they are usable because you were given multiple mood boards with clear images of materials and finishes. We parted ways when I was out of your budget for the construction side of the project. I also refunded half of the design retainer to you ($3000). I am also not sure how the communication was minimal, we had many phone calls, and many emails. throughout the entire 12 week design phase. I made sure I was available to you even though during this phase I told you "I go dark" to remain focused on the design.
I hope your project is going well. You have a beautiful condo, with a great view.

Unfortunately I didn't hire them, but Heather helped me a lot to get rid of my awful contractor. Heather also gave me a lot of good ideas. I didn't hire them because I hired a contractor from my girlfriend's family. But I recommend Heather and her husband, they're very friendly and professional

From the first phone call with Heather to discuss ideas and options, we clicked right away and it was like she already knew what we were looking for in the design! Shawn blew us away with an idea to expand our shower that we didn't even think was possible. We hired Tokan construction to complete repairs in our living room after water damage. After restoration was complete, Shawn came in and provided us a very fair and reasonable quote for the work. Heather (his wife and partner in business) helped us navigate all aspects of the operations including signing a contract, working with our insurance company (upon request), and even helping us to choose paint colors and design aspects. The work was completed (reframing, baseboards, sanding, painting) and far exceeded our expectations! We are already working with the Tokan’s on our next home project of completing our exterior paint. So pleased with this duo and highly recommend on any home construction or design job.
