Vickee helped me chose an exterior color scheme for my 50-year old house, and also update the furniture and accessories for the interior. She has an impeccable sense of color and style, all while utilizing many of the furnishings I already owned. She is very responsive, practical, and charges reasonable rates for her talented services. Yellow Door Design is a wonderful design firm with excellent taste in all aspects of a design project. Vickee has an amazing eye for color and texture and details that are livable and exceptional at the same time. Her communication style is lovely and clear and she handles everything from start to finish ---amazing subs and follow up. She had our home painted and power washed while we were out of town this summer---we came home to a finished project! No hassles and everything back in place. We have worked on a lake house and a city house together and the projects are evolving beautifully.

We were introduced to the Yellow Door Design team by several Yellow Door satisfied customers. We had an introductory meeting with Vickee Byrum, the founder and chief designer. Vickee developed a breathtaking mid century modern design theme, and laid out a number of options to help us arrive at our decisions. Equally important, Vickee has decades of experience in the Austin area, with knowledge of specialty shops and upholstery, artists, tile, and experienced craftsmen. In addition to the amazing color palate that Vickee developed for our home, she found a remarkable 10 foot, live edge, pecan slab that was beautifully stained, and installed in a 10 foot alcove right off the entryway to our house. I chose YDD (Vickee) by viewing her portfolio here on Houzz. What connected me to her design before even meeting her was her style and taste in furniture, fabrics, overall scheme of design. I have control issues, so I wanted someone that listened to my ideas and needs. I felt that some designers, are what I personally consider "over the top", were not for me. Tasteful and comfortable and a little eclectic best describes my style. I found a great designer (and more) in Vickee. If I ran into a panic about one decision not working or another (or a problem arose during construction), she was on top of it immediately, no problem. She started with me during construction of our home with decisions on stain colors, house colors, flooring, furnishings and even art work. If she suggested something I did not care for, we just went on from there. Likewise, when I made a suggestion that did not work, she was as honest with me as I was with her. She understood the process, made suggestions, kept an open mind and I honestly could not have done it successfully without her help. Professional, considerate, and most recommeded!

Vickee at Yellow Door Design just finished my room, it is awesome. I couldn’t be more happy. She is also working with my parents (I’m 14) on the rest of the house and that is almost done too and it is equally great. The entire project will be done in about two weeks, I can’t wait. Vickee Byrum, of Yellow Door Design, is a miracle worker and one of most versatile and creative designers I've ever known. I first met her 15 years ago when she was completing a big project for a wealthy, single bachelor from the tech industry. He had a large, open home in the hills of Westlake that was very contemporary and basically, what you would picture that client might love- and he did. I saw several other very diverse projects of hers, including an incredibly bright, almost whimsical, resort home in Utah to an update of a very traditional Tarrytown home with a hip contemporary feel- and just fell in love with the variety of styles she was able to work with WELL and her ability to match the design work exactly to the clients tastes and desires. So I hired her for a fairly difficult project.... to update my mother's large, very traditional home in the Hill Country. My mom is fairly rigid in her taste, classically traditional choices in fabrics (think Williamsburg) with many beautiful antique pieces. I'd tried many times before to get her to freshen up her home and bring into 21st century with no luck. Vickee was able to work her magic and take the house and turn it into a elegant but very fresh home that my mother was thrilled with! By using some Brunschwig & fils fabrics ( that my mom loves) and others ..,but in unusual fun color-ways, by placing her things in the most creative arrangements and by her selections of paint colors, rugs and carpet ( to all work right beside traditional oriental rugs and English antiques) - she pulled off something that was quite amazing! This was a big Out-of-town job - that she completed " on budget", on time ( or earlier) and in the most professional manner possible. She was respectful, creative, flexible and fun. Having seen many, many varying projects of hers, I can tell you that taste is impeccable.... but most importantly, Vickee Byrum, of Yellow Door Design, was an absolute JOY to work with every step of the way and I can't recommend her highly enough!

We work with Vickee at Yellow Door. Her sophisticated point of view is always on point. She is always a great designer to work with, and her clients are wonderful as well. My husband and I hired Vickee Byrum of Yellow Door design to be our designer for a home renovation project. We purchased the 1950's home in West Austin, then proceeded to gut about 80% of the house in order to update it and to make it to our taste. Vickee listened to us and got to know us individually and as a family. She listened to our needs and wants and respected them. She made wonderful suggestions too. She met with us and our contractor weekly and was always available by phone for us both. She is very well connected and has a lot of experience so when the contractor needed sub-contractor recommendations, Vickee supplied us with great ones. She handled all aspects of our renovation including flooring, cabinets, tile, granite, plumbing fixtures, interior and exterior paint colors, roofing, window treatments, indoor and outdoor furniture selections and placement . She helped hang paintings. She even designed and organized home accessories and closets. She truly was a life-saver. We also found Vickee to be extremely efficient, decisive, resourceful, mindful of our budget and a pleasure to work with. She expected quality workmanship from all of the sub-contractors, just as she did for herself. We have only the highest praise for Vickee Byrum of Yellow Door design and we would use her again in a heartbeat.

During our condo remodel our architect thought we should meet with Vickee to help with fixtures, paint, and furnishings. We wanted a neutral backdrop for our contemporary art collection. Her great love of color and her design ability to "think outside the box" fit our needs perfectly. We hit it off immediately! I knew basically what I wanted and she knew where to find it! Her ideas challenged me to think through the specifics of the project to accomplish the desired results. Truly a professional who listened well and had great solutions for reaching our goals.

This refers to just one of many projects Vickee of Yellow Door Design has designed and overseen in our home. In this case, Vickee helped design and supervised construction of a gorgeous deck in our back yard. It is unique and very special, and includes a screened-in porch with an awesome swing that Vickee designed - fitted with a twin mattress and lots of yummy cushions - perfect for afternoon naps. Other projects Vickee has built in our home: construction of beautiful bookcases throughout our house (we have lots of books!), with an accompanying system where subjects are grouped in different parts of the house; a large bookcase/entertainment center in our family room, incorporating an intricate home entertainment network; ‘bench’ beds in our guest apartment, that double as seating. In a more strictly ‘design’ sense, Vickee redid our master bedroom a year ago, designing a gorgeous king-size bed, choosing end tables, and overseeing all selections from mattress to linens. She has also, through the last fifteen years, chosen colors for the exterior of our house twice, and the interior of the whole house. Seven years ago when our youngest reached her teens, Vickee consulted with her on updating her room: new colors; a big desk; out with dollhouses/in with an antique cabinet to hold treasures; and best of all, she employed a technique to update the antique dresser and bed – ‘granging’ them to resemble the French Grange furniture. Funky and very cool. I have to specifically talk about Vickee’s color sense – it is perfect. I’ve never seen anyone manage color as she does. She is very creative and thoughtful in applying color, and brings her clients the gift of knowing and understanding what they need.

If you have a design project I suggest you hire Vickee now! Decoration is a very personal thing and seen differently through different perspectives. Prior to Vickee, we retained a person to discuss a remodel who was unable to develop and relate an understanding of our perspective. Fortunately, we retained Vickee for a remodel of our law firm office space and for a remodel of my personal office. I explained to her my expectation about how the space should "feel." She was able to transform a feeling into a reality that clearly exceeded my expectations. In addition, she takes your checklist that sometimes you did not even know you had but needed and her checklist and gets it done now. I would strongly recommend Vickee to turn perspective in to fact. And besides that she is just fun and pleasant to work with.

I have used Yellow Door Design over the last couple of years on everything from major remodels to updating bedrooms and living areas. Of course, I hired Yellow Door Design because I loved Vicki's taste, style and vision. She has made my world more beautiful, comfortable and livable. But I also appreciate Yellow Door's efficiency -- things are done quickly and on time. Vicki also is responsive to my needs and budget. She creates living areas that take advantage of my current pieces and appreciates how we live in our house and enhances those spaces.

Vickee Byrum is the color-genius, client-listening, budget-honoring designer. She can stand in silence taking in a space, then choose the perfect shade. She listens to my ideas, dismisses the crazy ones and thoughtfully implements the ones that will work. She designs gazillion dollar homes, yet doesn't bat an eye at my exponentially smaller budget. She took my dream for a master bath and made it affordable. She took my lack of ideas for a kitchen remodel and came up with a plan. You can expect beautiful, clean, timeless spaces from Yellow Door Design.

Vickee is a design rockstar. She helped us, start to finish, in designing the finish out for our new home and fully furnishing it. And, she saved us so many times over from making bad decisions, which in the end would have added up to a hefty sum of money. So, while she may not be cheap, in our opinion, she more than pays for herself. Plus, she is just a neat person and so much fun to work with.

Yellow Door Design helped us with a significant design issue we had when we opened our movie theater, Violet Crown. There were a lot of hard surfaces in our cinema lobby, resulting in an uncomfortable level of crowd noise. Vickee, the owner of Yellow Door, quickly solved our problem in an economical and aesthetically pleasing way. She came up with a creative and affordable solution by installing attractive sound absorbing panels on the ceiling, entirely eliminating the issue. She was awesome. And we recommend her highly.

When we bought a second home in Santa Fe, there was never any question who we would turn to for help in furnishing it. We have worked with Vickee at Yellow Door several times over the years and cannot say enough good things about her creativity and ethics.
