About Us

Owner Brian McGarry has been involved in the interior design business for more than 35 years. Over that time, he has managed retail stores and wholesale showrooms; he has represented and promoted international manufacturers as well as local entrepreneurs. His experience with and knowledge about new furniture, window treatments, floor coverings, reupholstery, and painting showed him the possibilities available for renovation and decoration. Over the last 20 years, Brian discovered his real passion is kitchen and bath design. Take advantage of his experience for your own redesign projects. For more than 30 years, Brian and his wife have lived in a 16-foot-wide duplex home in Alexandria, Virginia. Brian is a brilliant kitchen and bath designer! He expertly helped us make our ideas come to life, and his suggestions took the whole project above and beyond. Every step of the process was seamless. We never had to worry about materials or labor. Brian lined everything up and presented the options to us so we could make easy and stress free decisions. He was also faithful to our budget, and went above and beyond to offer options to stay on budget but still give us a more magnificent kitchen than we could have imagined. We couldn't recommend him more highly!

On recommendations from friends we hired Brian to help us redesign our small master bathroom. Originally we were going to do it ourselves. Our bathroom is very small and we knew we wanted to remove a wall. Even with removing the wall, it was a challenge to figure out how to add features we wanted. We became completely overwhelmed! So many choices and not enough space. Brian was wonderful! He was very professional and knew about bathroom construction. When we went through our wish list, he immediately gave us great feedback on what could work in our small space. He also listened to us and didn't try to force his views on us. Shortly after our first meeting he returned with a draft of the design and a list of fixtures, etc. Once our design was finalized, he personally drove us to warehouses to select tile, fixtures, and counter. We made our selections and returned home with samples. After living with our samples for a week, we decided they wouldn't work for us so Brian drove us around again and we ended up with exactly what we wanted. He ordered all the materials, solved problems with deliveries, and communicated with the contractor during construction. We love our new bathroom! A bathroom remodel is expensive and we are happy we hired a professional to help us get it right. Don't hesitate to hire Brian to help you with your project!

We had recently moved to a lovely older house. The kitchen had Kountry Kraft cabinets with a complex glazed finish in need of TLC. We also needed to convert the cooktop from electric to gas, update the cooktop venting to handle increased demand from the gas burners, replace a tiny microwave with a larger unit in a new cabinet, among other things. Brian worked his magic with what turned out to be the superbly responsive cabinet manufacturer, in addition to bringing the right craftspeople and suppliers to deal with a range of issues. A few cabinets were replaced, the warm and deep luster of the old finishes was restored, tile and counters were replaced. We now have a seamlessly restored kitchen that saved our budget for other battles in our old house.

Very disappointed with McGarry Interiors. Terrible attention to detail and little to no follow up. Poor customer service. Hired him to do a home work station with desk/cabinetry; he did not show up to oversee the install or come for subsequent check ups while his subcontractor was working. I had to call repeatedly for him to come over for necessary fixes and adjustments. The cabinetry was installed UPSIDE DOWN. He did not repair, or offer a price reduction on the poor installation. My cabinets are still installed upside down. I do not recommend this contractor.

Sadly I did not use my regular Class A contractor on this job; he did install the wall cabinets upside down. There were three wall cabinets, one in the middle and two of the same size on either side; his mistake was in installing the finished side up and the unfinished side down. The contractor was supplied with detailed drawings of the installation. Despite the client's recollection of the project (she wasn't home, we worked closely with her husband) I met my contractor on site the morning he was to start tear out, rough in and installation. This was (I felt) a pretty straightforward project; we went over the placement of the cabinets and brought them into the home from the garage. I stopped in later in the same day and observed that he was moving along well in the rough in stage. I was made aware of the mistake when we looked at the cabinets from below after installation. Despite, again, the client's recollection I offered to replace the wall cabinets; they did not wish me to. As the stiles were trimmed to her walls which were not level we could not merely turn them around. This was scheduled as a two day project so I really don't know how I didn't show up time after time. I did purchase additional materials and follow the client's directions to hide the undercabinet fixtures as well as possible. These additions did stretch the job out over several weeks as the trim pieces from the manufacturer were in a matching custom finish. It was unfortunate that a simple project of a study area (actual cost $5,950.00) ended up going so badly. The cabinets ordered fit perfectly to the space and should have gone in with no issues; unfortunately the very experienced contractor I used did not examine the cabinets properly before he hung them.

He had great ideas about layout and finishes and was very patient with me! I'd definitely recommend Brian to others, and I'd work with him again in the future.

Brian was easy to work with. He listened to what our ideas were and offered wonderful suggestions. Brian has incredible attention to detail - adding points that we wouldn't have thought of. All the details enhanced the overall design. We love our new bathroom! The project came in on budget and was completed while we were away. Brian kept us up to date as the project progressed.

Brian was referred to me by a friend. I was told that his expertise was small areas and I had a very small kitchen that was in very bad shape. I had some ideas of what I wanted and we sat down and discussed these Ideas. Brian came with lots of samples, and I was able to pick out the perfect hand cut glass tiles that I wanted from cabinet to ceiling, the blond cabinets and the black granite counters. I thought I wanted bamboo floors, but when Brian showed me some tiles with a very light bamboo like print that we were able to lay crosswise, I decided to go with the tiles. I also decided to put in a smaller. but taller refrigerator that doesn't stick out into the kitchen. If you have a small kitchen, Brian has great ideas about making the most of your space. I found Brian was very easy to work with and still call him if I have questions about anything.

I have hired Brian twice -- so far. He is simply the best -- a brilliant designer who uses the best quality materials. He was involved in the renovation of my kitchen in 2005 -- taking it from dowdy to spectacular. Even better, a few years later when I decided to add a back splash, he helped me pick out gorgeous Tuscan tiles. In 2012, he re-did my master bath -- turning a sorry aging builder issue bathroom into a stunning marble spa with my dream soaking tub. (He even let me design my own built in hamper and didn't laugh at my drawings.) Brian has consistently stood behind his work and the work of the contractors. When there was a problem with glue used on the huge mirrors, HE took care of getting un touch with them and arranging to have them replace the mirrors under the warranty. He clearly went above and beyond the call of duty on that. I plan to have him do 2 more bathrooms this year. I trust him implicitly with design issues but more importantly to always have my best interest at heart.

I worked with Brian in the spring of 2011 to re-design my master bathroom. I then used his contractors to perform that actual demolition and installation. This occurred in the summer of 2011. They both did an excellent job and I am really pleased with the work that they did. Brian is extremely professional, patient, and very helpful. He did a wonderful job in listening to what I wanted then drafting the designs. He also made the process very easy for me. He does great work and helped me stay within my budget. I would highly recommend Brian J. McGarry Interiors for any interior designs. My only regret is that I was not aware of Brian J. McGarry Interiors seven years ago when I redid my kitchen. I know he would have had great suggestion for that also. In addition, he is a pleasure to work with.

Brian redesigned and managed the reconstruction of three bath rooms as well as our kitchen a few years ago. We were pleased with all aspects of the work. He was very patient working with us on each of the redesigns. In addition the work was done professionally, timely, within the estimated cost and we would recommend Brian to anyone for similar work and would not hesitate to retain him in the future.

Brian got the job done, pulling together the design, going around with us to select materials from various vendors, purchasing the materials and coordinating with the construction company to oversee the installation. His fees are reasonable for the services he provides, and I don't think we could have completed this job as well or as efficiently without him. I would definitely use him again for a bathroom or kitchen remodeling job.

Fantastic! Easy to work with, sound design ideas and excellent execution. Makes the decisions easy and the results are worth it all. He did our kithchen 10 years ago and people still think it's a new renovation. We brought him back to rework all our bathrooms this year. Overall a great experience with no complaints!
