Christine Nelson Design

Christine assisted us on the addition of a master bathroom in our turn of the century (1903) home. She had several novel ideas and her service was very customized to meet our needs. Since our family was changing as we were planning the addition (newborn twins) her ideas, like incorporating an upstairs laundry in the master, were things we hadn't thought of on our own but was a terrific modification to the plan.

Christine is fabulous. She provides helpful suggestions, keeps you on track time-wise, and puts hours into finding appropriate furnishings, accessories, and anything else you are using in your redecorating plans. She is also delightful to work with - energetic, supportive, and fun.

Christine drew designs for my kitchen, worked with me to choose cabinets, countertop, tile, lighting and paint color, then did all the ordering and worked with the contractor to coordinate projects. She also set me up with an appliance outlet which was very helpful. I am thrilled with my new galley style kitchen. I’m still discovering how much more convenient the layout is, and the pullout drawers make everything so much more accessible. That we were able to accomplish the remodel in a fairly small space without expansion is amazing. I had been contemplating a renovation for a long time, but was afraid that the smaller space was too much of a limitation for someone to work with. So when I first contact Christine, I was not sure I would proceed with a remodel, I just wanted to start exploring possibilities and have some idea of what size appliances I should be looking for if one of my 20-year-old ones suddenly quite working—a real possibility! She had remodeled the kitchen of a friend of mine in an older St. Paul home. When we met, Christine really listened to me, and was realistic about the limitations with my budget. She provided three options for a design, and the galley design was really a new idea for me. After meeting with Joe, her contractor and getting the bid and filling in a few more of the details about what might be needed, I decided to go ahead. I dreaded making all the decisions, and often pushed back on some suggestions, and Christine worked well with my “reluctant” style. She accommodated my tastes, and offered her opinion when asked, but did not impose her own tastes. She deftly handled both my need to think about some decisions for a while, as well as my wish to not make all the decisions, and to defer some to her. Both Joe and Christine worked within my budget, and offered good advice about where corners could be cut, and where it paid to invest in something of better quality. When issues did arise, as they inevitably do, Christine handled returns, and insisted on replacements for anything delivered with any flaws at all, so I didn’t have to deal with it. I highly recommend Christine’s services.

I have had the pleasure of working with Christine on many kitchen and bath projects over the last few years. Christine is a very creative and well respected designer that has the gift of combing art with design. If you are looking to transform a kitchen or bathroom of any size, or just add some color, Christine has the vision to work with any challenging space. From initial design to project completion her talent will exceed any clients expectations.

Christine took our limited budget and created a great kitchen with lots of storage and pizzazz. She listened to what we wanted and came up with a remodeling plan that fit our needs. She follows through on questions and was able to get the remodeling done while we were out of town. She even sent the new cupboards back to the manufacturer because they were not up to her standards. The cupboards we came home to are beautiful! I would recommend her services.

A Christine designed kitchen = color + fun + functional! Christine was fabulous to work with. After interviewing many other designers and design-build teams, I choose Christine because she listened to me. I have odd and specific requests for my kitchen. She came up with a design that incorporated all my needs and still kept some of the old kitchen elements -- e.g. repurposing the ironing board cabinet into a spice cabinet, incorporating the colors of the vintage linoleum with the custom colored -- and added more elements to highlight the vintage with the new. My new kitchen doesn't look like something added on; it fits with the style of the house and more importantly with me. It's colorful and fun but an incredibly functional kitchen. I have worked with Christine on a number of kitchen and bathroom projects. She is so enthusiastic and full of desire to make peoples homes a wonderful space to live in. As a professional architectural photographer whose work focuses on interior design projects, I am privileged to see a lot of different designer's work. I can tell you from having photographed a number of her projects that Christine Nelson has a very strong sense of how to use color. She excels at not only producing beautiful kitchens and baths but also very functional ones. While she does work on any size kitchen or bath, I have to marvel at how she is able to modernize older small spaces and transform them from unbearable to really fun to be in.
