Cutting Edge Design

Our 69-year old 3/4 Cape received a renovation that was designed to increase access and adaptability for one-floor living. The updates included: – a new replaced-down-to-the-studs kitchen, including removal of a wall between the existing dining room and kitchen. – a modest mudroom, off which a laundry room with a half-bath was added. – a screened-in porch off the back door, as we stretched the dimensions of the once-detached garage, to make it attached and accessible from the mudroom. – another first-floor hallway bathroom that was converted into an ensuite bath off a renovated primary bedroom. Having read about Cutting Edge Design, we brought Mary Donaruma into the conversation very early on, before we hired the architect to draw the plans, as we needed help finding the flow for the kitchen that was the central connection to all the above. Once we had a promising design of the kitchen, the rest of the design for the additional floor plan came into view in conversation with the architect who drew the plans for the renovation, the mudroom addition, the garage extension, and the screened-in porch. Once the architectural drawings were done, a more final version of the kitchen emerged and we were off to the Cutting Edge Showroom to look at cabinetry options and more. We also received an interior design consult. Our cabinetry that we ordered through Cutting Edge Design arrived on the agreed upon schedule, with all the quality we had hoped for. Mary worked with our general contractor and the cabinet installer before and during the installation of the cabinets. We had one glitch regarding the the stove’s fit with quartz countertops, but Mary worked quickly with the counter fabricator to resolve the problem on site as soon as possible. We were very happy with our selections, once everything was installed. We would recommend Mary Donaruma and the Cutting Edge Design team again. They were good listeners, asked good questions, very attentive to details, good problem solving and offered excellent communications during the process.

I'm really happy that many others recommended Mary to us. We were looking to design a rather custom finished basement that included a kitchen, gym, full bath, and lots more. Planning this out seemed like a nightmare to us. Mary dove in head first and took all the time we needed to get all of this just right. She even referred to us several qualified contractors to do the work, one of which we hired and loved. We absolutely LOVED Mary's design that she put together for us. It is so much better than what we could have come up with. The cabinets Mary provided are fantastic. It's not a one in done thing with Mary. Mary is incredible! She created a vision for our first floor that my husband and I just couldn't see. She was always responsive and helpful and so kind. We connected instantly; she truly cared about what we wanted/needed to make our space functional and something we both would love. I could call her any time of day and she would answer. Mary is a terrific designer! My former kitchen had terrible lighting, poor amount of storage space, an ugly countertop and way too much clutter. My garbage and recycle? I walked across to the kitchen to access. Now I have an efficient and beautiful kitchen and with the help of her trusty interior designer Michelle and Skyline Granite, a gorgeous granite countertop and backsplash. She made the most of my initial budget too. Her questions and process really worked for me--as did her patience in fully explaining answers to any of my questions. Mary was so helpful to me! The reason I had held off on remodeling my kitchen was because it was a small space and I really had no clue what the layout should be! I met with Mary and she asked a lot of questions about how I use the space. She came up with a beautiful design and was able to get be much more cabinet space. The whole process was very smooth.
