We loved working with Kate and Leah on our bathroom redesign. This is the second project we have had the chance to work together and we could not be more pleased with the results. Kate and Leah were responsive, innovative and could help us realize design options and features we would never have thought of ourselves. They also did an amazing job balancing modern design while honoring the history and style of our hundred year old house. The first thing that comes to mind is how well Leah Dunne and Kate Roos listen. Their understanding of our particular ideas and needs for the remodel was readily apparent. Prior to hiring Kate Roos Design for our remodel, I hired Kate on a consulting basis. That one hour was more productive than I imagined. She proved her ability to see potential in the house, to understand what we wanted and to focus on what changes would give us the most satisfaction. I had a pretty strong feeling that she was the designer I wanted to use but needed to discuss it with my husband. He agreed that we should go with KRD and our plan was to design the project in phases, the first of which would focus on the footprint of the main floor. There were numerous oddities in the way the house was built and then later remodeled. It was originally a cozy 1958 rambler with basement but it was built perpendicular to the lake and the view! Later, it was remodeled and a second story added but the orientation of the home was never addressed. My husband and I have restored and renovated several homes but this one had us severely stumped. Kate and her team created a schedule for every milestone. Their task seemed impossible but they succeeded. They kept flow, function, how we live, the best use of space, where to get more bang for the buck, how to make sure the interior resonated with the outdoors, and what made more sense for a house that currently made very little sense. While the focus was on the interior layout, Kate Roos considered the exterior and how to keep the facade balanced and aesthetically pleasing. We got so much out of our first floor and only had to bump out the new kitchen wall by two feet. We are very pleased with the results. We were impressed with how meetings progressed and got us closer to the final design. We stayed on schedule, we modified, we brainstormed options and the phase 1 design was completed as scheduled. The layout is well thought out, uses every inch appropriately. Stairs were moved to create an incredible flow that offers a sense of openness while still leaving intimate spaces for quiet reading or sipping wine. We are so impressed with Kate Roos Design and are already preparing for their involvement with Phase 2

Kate and her team are the best! From creative thinking to inspiring design to practical execution, Kate Roos Design delivers peerless quality and work and exceptional service. We hired them to remodel our basement. Our house was originally built in the 1920s but with an addition from the 1990s. As such, the basement featured a vortex of challenges: mechanicals from different eras, outdated plumbing, wasted space, and no unifying design or architecture. Kate Roos Design delivered a vision that has fundamentally transformed an outdated basement into a showplace for entertainment and relaxation, including an amazing bathroom. In doing so, they patiently and thoroughly listened to our feedback and made the designs to meet our needs, while also staying within budget. Their creativity and attention to detail is fantastic. They also connected us with a local contractor and provided project management during construction. Their communication, timeliness, and organization during this process was outstanding. I contacted Kate Roos Design about providing designs for our kitchen project. We had a very small ~8x10 foot kitchen with an adjacent similarly sized dining area and a chimney dividing the 2 spaces. We wanted to remove the wall between the rooms, requested a small pantry, a place to sit down and put on our shoes and an island that would accommodate a few bar stools. Additionally, we did not need help choosing cabinets, colors, etc, and we had our own contractor (Nice Place) and did not need project management. Since we only needed help with the design, Kate agreed to a reduced price and provided us with 2 designs to choose from. She incorporated everything on our wish list which was no small feat given the finished space measures 10x16 feet. We could not be happier with our new kitchen and Kate's thoughtful approach to our project.

Kate is an amazing designer, has a great team and is so much fun to work with! She designed our kitchen in 2020 and then we had her back in 2022 to design a new master bath and walk-in closet. Both of the spaces are beautiful and so functional, and despite a few expected delays, the projects went well from start to finish. Project manager Beth kept everything on track and kept us informed throughout the process. Kate worked with us to create the look we wanted within our budget, and since I'm a design neophyte, her suggestions on finishes and materials were gratefully received. I wish I had another space to remodel so I could have her back!

Working on the design with Kate and Leah was very rewarding. I worked with Kate on the design for a full kitchen remodel. My small, 1980s era kitchen in my 1930s era home needed a refresher. Kate asked me to narrow down my style preferences by flagging some other kitchens found on Houzz. She pulled together a few layouts, which started to incorporate key design elements (a full floor-to-ceiling subway tile wall, pot racks, a recipe book nook) which would help to brighten the space, leverage my existing "must haves" and make the most of the small size. She provided some samples of cabinet trims, backsplash tile, countertop options, knobs and pulls and paint colors based on our discussions to help narrow things down. Once we landed on a layout and all of the materials/colors/etc that we wanted, she pulled together a final design + "shopping list" for the contractors to consistently quote the construction work. Her process, which essentially finalized all of the decisions before getting bids for the construction, made things go smoothly throughout the actual construction work. Kate was available throughout for quick questions and was always fast to respond. I love the beautiful design of my new kitchen and would, hands down, recommend Kate Roos Design to anyone else looking for a professional, personable designer. She incorporated my style preferences while providing creative and elegant design elements leaving me with a magazine-worthy kitchen.

Kate and Evangeline re-designed the kitchen, powder bath and back entryway for our 1920s Tudor. They did an amazing job of translating our vision into reality. The team really takes into account how you use the space when creating a set of potential options, taking extra time up front to ensure that the choices they create are ones that really work for your family. I loved how flexible they were with the design in terms of materials, layout and price points- giving you a set of options that really work for the way that you live in a space. And her designs are absolutely gorgeous! Kate is also an amazing project manager and was always thinking two steps ahead in terms of questions we might have, issues that might come up, etc. I could not recommend Kate and her team more highly and will be definitely be using her for future projects. Kate was incredibly patient through out the design process. We had a very small kitchen and every space choice was important. While we didn’t change the footprint of the kitchen we doubled the functionality of it. She also helped us stay true to our 1918 home with the design including cabinetry in the dining room. With recent world events requiring us to stay home I have been extremely thankful for this pleasant family space to enjoy.

Kate Roos gets five stars from us. I wish they were gold stars and not just green. We came to Kate with a very unconventional project. We wanted to replace only our kitchen island, not the entire kitchen. Because that island acts as a room divider, sharing space with both the kitchen and the music room, it wasn't even exactly a kitchen project. I asked Kate to run free and wild and create a piece that would increase the functionality of the kitchen and simultaneously be a work of art that took visitors' breath away when they walked in the house. Kate was able to bring the kitchen’s efficiency from about 50% all the way to 100%. And the piece she designed is an immense kitchen enhancement, a perfect complement to our house, AND a conversation starter. Mission accomplished and more.

We retained Kate to design a full remodel of a downtown condo. This included full kitchen, two baths, utility room, two full-wall bookcases, selection of all materials, fixtures, lighting, color selection and interior aesthetics. Kate's design sense is aesthetic but very practical. She states her recommendations clearly, which was very helpful. And we nearly always took them. Kate is easy to work with and communicates well. She worked well with our general contractor. Her fees were very fair, and very much worth it. We're delighted with the finished product.

Looking back at the hundreds of decisions needed for our kitchen remodel, the most important one was the decision to work with Kate. While we had spent lots of time over several years thinking about our kitchen wants and needs, we realize we had never thought completely outside the box. Kate (and Evangeline) brought objectivity, creativity, and experience to the table. The result is that we are fully using the entire kitchen space for the first time. We now enjoy lots of wonderful natural light, and are delighted to spend our time in a beautiful and delightfully functional kitchen. Kate designed a creative way to display our prized pottery collection, and that was a jumping off point for the selection of materials and colors. She has a tremendous sense of color and materials, always keeping in mind how one design decision impacts the others, and retaining a clear aesthetic. Kate and Evangeline were consistently easy and fun to work with, and recommended very capable trades people. We love our kitchen! It completely says who we are, and is so much more than it would have been without their expertise.

Kate Roos was everything we needed to help us create the kitchen we have always wanted. She listened closely to our goals and preferences. Her vision and ideas were in line with what we wanted, and the finished product is absolutely spectacular - a remodel that was much more than we ever would have imagined! We live outside of Rochester MN and she rearranged her schedule to match our work schedules in order to stand in our home and truly get a feeling for who we are and our life style. We worked with a local contractor and she kept in contact with him and the cabinet makers throughout the project. On numerous occasions when I was concerned about what was happening she stepped in to graciously move things in the right direction. She helped us choose the correct light fixtures, paint - everything. I learned to trust her, asked her opinion on many (if not all) decisions when deciding furniture/fixtures/appliances etc. She was always right on! She was professional, her knowledge of every aspect was deep and the quality of her work unmatchable. She helped us and our contractor keep on track and moved the project along. She keep our budget in mind. Throughout the project we felt she was committed to the project. Very approachable! Without hesitation and with the greatest enthusiasm, I give her the highest recommendation.

This saved us a lot of time and money. Additionally, we were able to stay on budget because we had chosen everything and obtained pricing before we began construction. We now have the kitchen of our dreams because of Kate’s amazing work.

I can't speak highly enough of our experience redesigning our kitchen with Kate. She consistently went above and beyond to help us create our dream kitchen. From designing an extremely efficient layout within our size constraints to picking finishes or evaluating potential contractors – she was always kind, professional and helped put us at ease.

Kate was an amazing designer. She came up with a plan for a very difficult island in an angled kitchen. She was always patient and kind despite my pickiness and constant questions. She was never the slightest bit short with me despite my continued calling. Other designers tried to come up with a drawing to my specification and were unable. Kate was able to point out details that I overlooked that made the end project absolutely amazing. She worked quickly and diligently despite limited time in one portion of the project. When I added on new things and asked for her help each new part of the project was as great as the last. I am a very detailed oriented client and so finding someone to meet my needs was difficult. Kate met my needs completely in every area including design ideas, quality, timeliness and budget.

One word: Superlative! I have known Kate for 15 years and she is without a doubt THE best CBD/CKD in her field; period (unequivocally and categorically). Of course, Kate is also the most humble and self-effacing designer I know as well. She conducts herself with the highest integrity and will not waiver from her honest, hands-on, practical approach. Kate is not only a beyond genius designer she is second to none as evidenced by her flawless bespoke designs and execution thereof (truly exquisite one of a kind masterpieces delivered within budget and on time - a rare treasure in this day and age). Am so thankful I have her as my go to resource for not only my own projects, but also, as one whom I trust implicitly and can without any hesitation whatsoever recommend her services to others. I am more than eager to give her my heartiest endorsement as Kate's work is most deservedly worthy of high praises.

Kate helped us design a beautiful and functional master bath and adjoining closet/dressing space, which we were rebuilding after catastrophic water damage. We were terribly stressed out, and forced to make some big decisions fairly quickly. Kate was an expert resource - thoughtful, calm, and empathetic to our needs. In addition to developing a couple of different style options, she came up with some wonderful ideas to help us make the best use of our limited, and challenging space...including a new built-in wardrobe that completely resolved my storage problems! Kate Roos designed and managed a total re-do of my master bath and another full bath within my home. After understanding my requirements and preferences, Kate did a phenomenal job of sourcing materials and advising on designs that met my expectations for baths that are timeless and soothing. The home was built in the early 80's and the baths needed to fit within that, while it follows a modern design. Kate and the construction team created detailed plans and the project was delivered right according to plan. I am very pleased with the results. The master bath remodel included room reconstruction, in addition to new fixtures, tiling, new vanities, flooring and lighting/mirrors. Paint color was selected and applied. The second bath was gutted and while layout remained as is, everything within was replaced and room was repainted to complement.

Kate is a spectacular designer and not of the usual shallow variety. She really understood what we wanted and focused on our interests and not her own need to express herself. We very much appreciated that. We are doing a complete kitchen remodel with her, meaning the room was down to the studs and everything was reconfigured. We had a lot of budget constraints, which made this space a lot harder to design. We were unwilling to bump out the wall or remove any windows or doorways, something that others had struggled with. She just sat down and executed a design that is satisfying and beautiful. She is patient beyond belief. Her aesthetic recommendations are always lovely. We love cooking and use our kitchen a lot, so this project is near and dear to our hearts. We highly recommend Kate Roos for designing your kitchen and bath. (Oh yes, and we needed a small powder room as well in this complicated spaced, which is also turning out beautifully.) She is very gifted and experienced. I will be happy to supplement this later with a picture, but it is not finished yet, so it seems prudent to hold off until all the nice touches are in.
