We worked with Tracey and her team to completely reimagine an extremely poorly-designed and -constructed add-on kitchen in a very old house without increasing the footprint. In addition to the terrible layout, the kitchen had an awkward step-down mudroom leading to the backyard. When we initially met with Tracey we mentioned that in our dreams we would turn the mudroom into a powder room but that of course this would never be possible, and her eyes lit up: "I can do that!" Now we have a beautiful, functional, eco-friendly kitchen and a brand new half-bath. Tracey guided us step-by-step through choosing low-emission materials and cabinets that would look great but not break the bank and introduced us to induction cooking, which we love. Our kitchen is brighter, bigger, easier to keep clean, and a true joy to work in. We had some pretty out-there design ideas (a plaid floor!), and Tracey was really fun to collaborate with. She maximized every inch of our small kitchen and added a great little powder room (thanks to a toilet with an in-wall tank, which we never would have thought of!) to boot. Her recommendations for fixtures and accessories were fun but elegant. She brought in a top-notch contractor who did amazing work and handled all the sub-contracting. For such a huge project, we can't believe there were not more surprises, and that it was done in under 4 months. Thanks for everything, Tracey and Beth!

We are now in our new kitchen and half bath designed by Tracey Stephens. We are so pleased. Using our existing footprint, Tracey created a new kitchen full of light, with more seating, counter and cabinet space. The process was so smooth. Tracey listened to what we wanted from a new kitchen, shared designs and adjusted them based on our feedback. She provided brilliant design ideas and sound, practical guidance for the floor, cabinets, tile, stove and refrigerator. We also benefited from her use of color and now have a newly painted foyer, dining room, bathroom and kitchen. She also directed us to an extremely skilled contractor with whom she often partners. When we began the process called kitchen and powder-room renovation, my husband and I did not fully understand what a “kitchen designer” does or could do. Realizing that we were novices, people we consulted kept telling us we needed one. And fortunately Tracey Stephens became our trusted kitchen designer. Her assistant Beth provided excellent help with the innumerable details. Throughout the long planning process, she always listened patiently to both of us and offered an array of imaginative and creative ideas for us to consider. Who knew that there were so many catalogs and websites of cabinets, cabinet inserts, hardware, appliances, and lighting fixtures? She guided us through her time-tested selections of contractors, vendors, and showrooms, looking for those that might be most simpatico with us. Happily, she chose well! After many meetings at her studio where she showed and discussed with us multiple computer-aided plans, we agreed on one design with a wonderful and more spacious floor plan. The first thing she suggested was to get a new, much larger window over the sink. What a difference the expansive view of the sky and our backyard has made in our daily enjoyment of the kitchen! A couple of walls and counters were moved or removed and a niche was created for our French-door refrigerator, both resulting in more centralized space in the kitchen. Since our old kitchen was relatively small, she recommended simplicity in choosing our backsplash and quartz countertop that was installed beautifully by her fabricator. Several carefully placed open shelves that we wanted and white lacquered custom cabinetry added to the sense of spaciousness. We’re very glad that she suggested heated porcelain floors throughout the kitchen, powder room,and reconfigured mudroom now that autumn brings colder days. In addition to the overall plan, Tracey helped us select cabinet, plumbing, and electrical hardware and helped us sift through the dizzying varieties of lighting and white paint! The proof of the pudding is that, despite having our temporary kitchen in the living room and experiencing some lengthy pauses due to the pandemic, everything came perfectly together. A year after living with the new kitchen and powder room, day after day we find that we love everything about them!

We just finished a complete gut renovation of both of the first floor bathrooms in our house, under the direction of TSID, and we can't be more pleased with the process and the results. Tracey came up with a fantastic design, and it was a pleasure to work with her to fine tune the details, but it was the three month process which was where she and her team really made a difference. They were full engaged, and kept us informed at every step in the process, working closely with us to address problems that the contractors encountered once the walls were opened up, and most importantly, managing some of the setbacks we encountered. You never know until you open the walls just what you're dealing with. Tracey and Beth are both wonderful people and a pleasure to work with, They brought a lot of great ideas to what we originally proposed, and the end result was a pair of stunning, gorgeous bathrooms. We would not hesitate to engage TSID again for future renovation work, and we would recommend them most highly to anyone considering the same.

Tracey took what was an isolated, outdated kitchen with very little working space and turned it into an incredibly spacious masterpiece that brings a whole new purpose and meaning not just to our kitchen, but the back half of the house. Removing one doorway into the kitchen, relocating another to a powder room and basically doubling the size of the back window opened the space tremendously, while relocating appliances and the sink. The result is a kitchen that now has FOUR large and legitimate countertop workspaces when we previously had just one cramped and tiny one. The finished design is clean and simple, with whites and neutrals that allow pops of color to stand out. Tracey worked closely with Don Oliver the contractor to problem-solve the inevitable surprises that come up in renovations. The result is something we're really proud of.

Tracey and her team left no detail unfinished - we were impressed with the dedication, fastidiousness, and responsiveness with which they addressed our concerns. Their industry knowledge regarding materials was also indispensable, and helped us wade through decision-making with ease and comfort. Our kitchen and bathroom went from "blah" to "aha!" and we love showing these new spaces off!

We really liked a neighbor’s kitchen and she highly recommended Tracey, who was her designer. Our experience with Tracey was very positive and satisfying. Our kitchen was small, with some quirky constraints, but it wasn’t possible to expand the space. After discussing how would we ideally like our kitchen to function, making several visits and working with us on revisions to her plans, she reconfigured the space in ways that completely transformed our kitchen. Her redesign opened up the entire first floor of our home, making it more spacious and lighter. She moved and enlarged a window so the kitchen is now oriented toward our backyard garden. We are thrilled with our new kitchen—it is so pleasant to use and we enjoy the beautiful colors and finishes every day. Tracey is very responsive, efficient, and easy to work with throughout. She listened to our ideas and recommended options we never would’ve thought of and which are perfect in our kitchen. She is exactly what you want in a designer: she has a refined sense of design and a great eye for color; she is highly knowledgeable about the construction and technical aspects of kitchen design. Beth, the project manager, is an excellent troubleshooter who quickly resolves whatever goes off track. She also knew the ins-and-outs of our project. We would enthusiastically recommend Tracey and Beth to anyone about to jump into a kitchen redesign.

We have consistently had a great experience working with Tracey Stephens and her team. She has help to renovate a bathroom/bedroom and most recently our kitchen. ("Blue Island Happiness") She excels at capturing the abstract idea you may have about your space and turning it into something concrete. We appreciated the very high level of communication and support in completing our project not only with us but also with the various contractors who were involved. The whole process of working with Tracey feels like a great collaboration to see the project finished. We look forward to our next project with Tracey.

I tried to come up with a "fix" for my tired, unworkable bathroom for years. Tracey understood what we wanted and took a space that was awkward and uncomfortable and made it not only functional, but beautiful and inviting! She is wonderful to work with and I cannot wait to do another project with her.

We hired Tracey to help us design our kitchen. Though we selected the materials ourselves and managed the construction, she did the drawings for us. She came to our house and spent time with us to better understand our needs and style. Her design totally transformed our space! She suggested changes that we had not even considered. She also introduced us to many innovations that we had not been familiar with. All of her suggestions made our kitchen so much better. She also connected us with a great cabinet vendor (who was extremely helpful), an appliance company, and a tile company that all offered us great service. Her assistant Beth also was very helpful.
