“After interviewing several contractors, we are so glad we hired Steve and his crew to completely rebuild and expand our 1950s kitchen in our 1920s fixer-upper. Steve was incredibly detail oriented, yet flexible and patient in working with and advising us as we designed most of the kitchen and small addition project ourselves. He did everything possible to be respectful of our budget, even as we ran into a few (to be expected in an older home) small surprises. His advice was invaluable, and responsiveness immediate. Moreover, he agreed to work with our plumber with whom we are friends and already felt very comfortable with working on our home. His other subcontractors, including work on tile, plastering, and electrical, were all as pleasant and reliable as Steve himself. Steve was omnipresent; always making sure the job got done right no matter what stage it was in. Steve always made sure to make any touch ups needed after the subcontractors finished their work. Steve and his crew were not only nice to have around, but created a safe and even fun atmosphere while we lived through this major renovation and necessary disruption in our home. With their diligent work, we went from a cramped, awkward, and outdated kitchen, to one we love and doubles as both functional and sorely needed social space that our modest home previously lacked. Steveworks turned our ideas into such a great kitchen that we promptly hired them to completely renovate our dated bathroom. Steve worked with us, our sometimes quirky house, and a very tight budget to give us a dramatically improved space. We highly recommend Steveworks to anyone who is considering hiring a contractor. “Tony's team saved the day after our 4k square foot home sustained water damage on three levels as a result of ice dams. Although it was a stressful time, Tony's crew was able to remove the damages dry wall, floors, detailed crown molding and wainscoting quickly. Once the home was dried out, his renovation team rebuilt the damaged areas and, better still, helped us negotiate with the insurance company to receive the full cost of the renovation - the insurance agent actually thanked him for providing detailed information on the renovation and what needed to be done in order to return our house to good-as-new condition. “Mark Smith and Hammersmith Associates did a three year complete gut renovation of our 2 family 8,000 square foot historic home in Boston. The project was massive; we reconfigured and reframed every floor, removed 40 tons of brick, framed in and installed a commercial elevator, installed two kitchens and ten bathrooms, installed a groundwater recharge system, managed the refurbishment of 80+ historic windows and there was no detail that Mark couldn’t handle. The house is impeccable, every detail perfect, that is all thanks to Mark, his excellent team, his management skills and his attention to details. Nothing ruffled Marks feathers, despite the demands of the project, he was professional and pleasant throughout. We remain friends still. In fact, when our condominium in Puerto Rico was badly damaged by hurricane Maria, he was on a plane to PR on day 7 in extreme conditions to help us salvage our home and make it livable again. “Our prior contractor was too busy for the work that needed to be done which led me to find Bonsai Builders…a blessing in disguise, if you ask me! Our front porch was in need of some major updating (a lot of rotting wood, railings were wobbly, pillar trim and paint coming off, etc). They were able to squeeze us in their busy schedule which I totally appreciate. Jason was very honest with what work needed to be done as I initially only asked for new railings. I didn't want to wait until the rotting wood got worse so I agreed and trusted his professional opinion. Thank goodness I did because there was a little more damage from water and ants that he found which I didn't want to deal with down the road. He used pvc to wrap the base of the pillars (which looks so much better and well proportioned) and replaced all our risers and kick board with pvc too. I am all for low maintenance so I'm glad I don't have to worry about rotting wood again! He even replaced our electrical outlet to a more low profile one. Jason is a perfectionist..very detail-oriented and meticulous, he kept pointing things out that I would never have noticed and fixed the issue promptly. He and his worker were respectful of the property, cleaned up after themselves, and were on time. I can't forget about Kristin (Jason’s wife and company manager) who was very communicative in regards to scheduling, estimates, etc. She was very responsive and got back to me quickly whenever I had a question (a rare trait these days!). Overall, I would definitely recommend Bonsai Builders and look forward to hiring them again in the future. I've already received so many compliments online. Even my neighbor stopped to say how beautiful it came out as she was driving away. We hired them again to redo our kitchen countertops and backsplash. Hire them, you won't regret it!!”
