Renaissance Inc. - The House Whisperer
Kitchen & Bathroom Remodelers in Columbus
Average rating: 5 out of 5 starsSeptember 8, 2012
After a decade of suffering with a tiny, awkward, and ugly kitchen we called a number of contractors to talk about a major renovation. Several of them looked our 1920s Clintonville house and just never called us back. Some called us back and offered quotes that were 50% of the appraised value of the house. Some just proposed cursory remodels that would have left the basic structure (and ugliness) intact. We were about to give up on the whole thing when Todd came to provide an estimate. Instead of grimacing and wringing his hands, he marched around the house taking measurements, assuring us that he had worked with old walls, electricity, and plumbing before. Instead of sighing and trying to cajole us into diminished expectations, he envisioned an entirely new space. And instead of trying to persuade us to take out a bigger loan, he told us that he thought he could work within our budget. Just about a week later we met with him to take a look at the plans that would demolish the kitchen and dining room, tear down the wall separating the two rooms, construct a new doorway, and entirely relocate all the mechanicals. Only a few weeks later, we were starting the project. There’s no doubt about it: a renovation project that guts the center of your house is a disruption, but Renaissance made it as painless as we could have hoped. We had never done any house remodeling projects before and were very anxious because everyone we knew eagerly told us about their personal disasters or the latest episode of “Holmes on Homes.” Our experience was absolutely different: Todd let us know when he anticipated problems and explained how he would manage them. He hires and uses very talented and conscientious subcontractors with whom he had done business for a long time. We never felt that he had abandoned us to nameless firms, subcontractors, and underlings. When he wasn’t pleased with the work the electricians did, he had them come back and fix it. When an ordered cabinet was too big, he replaced it. He was wonderful at communication: he was always available on email or phone when we had questions. And perhaps best of all, he was imperturbable: discoveries about poor wiring or bad joists that sounded like disasters to us became “no worries” as Todd reassuringly said, “we’ll make it work.” And make it work he did. Only 8 weeks later, we had a dream kitchen of cherry shaker cabinets, granite counters, oak floors, brand new lighting and new appliances. What were once two tiny inconvenient rooms with no lights is now a gorgeous open center room that orchestrates the entire house. Renaissance crafted the original oak in our dining room and living room to blend seamlessly with the new oak in the kitchen. They saved doors and trim from the original built-ins and constructed built-in cabinets; so even though our house looks absolutely modern, it still has its 1920s craftsman style charm. Renaissance turned our drab and ugly space into a showcase: it is the most beautiful kitchen I have ever seen. If I thanked you a million times, it would be insufficient

They performed a complete kitchen remodel, including new cabinets, flooring, tile, lighting, plumbing and countertops. Bill developed a kitchen plan for us based on our desire to use the existing space in our house. They removed part of a wall between the kitchen and dining room and installed new cabinets, granite countertops, walls, lighting, plumbing, and tile. As part of the project, they also replaced the gas pipe from the meter to the water heater and the range. We felt they were professional, punctual, attentive to our needs and wants, and kept the work area clean. Jeff was our main contact during this project, coming to our home most days when work was being performed. We would recommend them and we are likely to hire them again in the near future.

Chris helped me remodel my kitchen several years ago. He was very professional, polite, on schedule and his price point matched my budget. I have worked with Chris on many customers as well, and each one has been fully satisfied with the results. We would definitely work with Christophers Cabinets again.

We did a complete renovation of our master bath. Our main goals were to make the room handicapped accessible, easy to clean and to increase shower and vanity space. In order to gain every precious inch, we removed a linen cupboard and stole a foot of depth from the back of our daughter's closet. We had a variety of specialists in and out of our home. Everyone was courteous and hard-working. No one smoked in or outside of my home and workers cleaned up after themselves every day. I was kept up to date on each step of the project and never felt as if our job was a lower priority to Dave Fox. The project is complete and we love the new space! By moving the location of the shower and vanity, the room seems so much larger. We were also able to keep the window, which I had thought we'd lose in order to gain storage. I have nothing but good things to say about Dave Fox Home Remodeling.
The Nicklaus Group

I had worked with a number of contracts prior to selecting Nicklaus Group. There were price bait and switch scams to people just not showing up. There are significantly more disreputable companies than there are reputable so when one is found it is important to share that information. My contact was Brian Wing and he has been phenomenal in walking my wife and I through our remodeling project. Based on prior interactions we did have a very good idea of the changes wanted and had several renderings that provided visuals. The project was discussed in great detail and Brain’s knowledge and experience we refreshing and really brought insight to the finer details that make a significant visual change. We had several exterior walls removed, cistern/patio removed, a covered porch converted to being open with a half barrel ceiling entrance, cedar fencing, new gutters, new cedar deck, new paver patio and house painted. Brian has maintained communication throughout the project and made various changes on the fly that add to the visual value. His pricing was exceptional and his crew is friendly and courteous. They cleaned up each night and worked extremely hard. If you want reliability, quality and fair pricing include Nicklaus Group in the estimation process

We me the designer at the Columbus Home and Garden Show. She followed up with us and we liked how non-pushy her approach was. We worked together over the next few months on our timeframe and we welcomed her guidance through the process and her beautiful suggestions. We were also very pleased with the craftsmanship of the carpenter and the perfectionism of the production supervisor. Our experience was positive and we would highly recommend choosing Kitchen Kraft.

The entire process from inception, design, demolition, renovation to completion was educational and exciting. The project included renovation of four bedrooms and two bathrooms upstairs and an office/computer room downstairs. Paul Golich (design), Chris Allan (project manager), and all JS Brown employees were professional, responsive to our concerns, and a pleasure with whom to work. We can recommend them at the highest level.

Jassen and his entire crew were awesome to work with. They are fast, accurate, clean, reliable, and easy to communicate with. They are very quick to respond to any questions and always making sure I was happy with everything. I used Jennifer Kemp Design Services to help pick out everything from tile, light fixtures, paint, and decor. I would still be picking everything out if it wasn't for Jennifer. I was very indecisive and she was quick to pick up on what would work for me and my space and making it work with the items that I was keeping. I would highly recommend J. Holderby Renovations and will use them for future projects.
