My partner and I decided the renovate the basement of our house to allow for more entertainment space in our small 1950s bungalow. Jackson was very accommodating with all of our requests and had so much patience with all of our questions and fears about this project. He always made himself available for us when we needed him and was able to offer suggestions to improve on our original design idea based on his experience in construction. We had originally made the mistake of hiring a family member to assist us with the plumbing rough-ins for a full bathroom as well as convert the heating system to an on-demand hot water tank/boiler. The family member did not finish the work and left us very suddenly with no heat or water in the house and months behind our projected end date. Jackson was able to step in and take control of the situation immediately and get the project back on track and finish it better than we could have envisioned. It's always difficult with renovations in such an old house, there's always surprises, but he was able to work with everything in the house and allowed us to have the smoothest construction experience.
Four Elements Construction

We have used Four Elements for 2 renovation projects now at 2 different homes and would certainly recommend the company for small to large projects. The first was a basement finishing project in 2014 - we started with an unfinished basement and roughed in plumbing in a 2003 home with Four Elements coordinating all trades to frame/drywall/paint/carpentry/electrical/plumbing/installation of carpet and tile. Our project was estimated to take 3 months and was completed within that time frame. We were minimally above budget (I believe it was a couple thousand on 30+) and was in part due to changes that we made as the project went along. The finishing quality was excellent and we were very happy with the completed space (family room, bathroom and small laundry room). Peter (owner) made several excellent recommendations along the way such as the type of lighting to use and was responsive to our comments/suggestions throughout the build. Our second project has just recently concluded and was significantly more complex as it was upgrades/renos throughout a 1960's home on all levels. We installed new exterior doors/window, moved a wall, created a pass thru, painted, installed new flooring, countertops, lighting in the basement, insulation, electrical, and furnace upgrades to name a few. Again, this project was completed on time and very close to our original budget (48+) and was completed within the 2 month time frame Peter estimated. We are very happy with the end results and did not consider using anyone other than Peter and Four Elements for this project based on how well our first experience went.

Josh Hudon and his team of Adlyn Construction completed our home renovation with extreme professionalism, accuracy and a beautiful outcome. This was not a straight forward job, and involved building two exterior walls , a heated crawl space and engineered beams. The completion does not appear to be an “add on” , instead it flows naturally with the rest of the home. We were extremely grateful for the referral to Josh and endorse Adlyn Construction to home or business as renovators. Len & Bev Bourdin, St Albert

Very professional, showed respect for my husband and pet during the renovation, they were able to work around us, while we lived in the house at the same time as the reno was being done. Addressed all defeciencies, and were able to do extras that we required.

Paradigm Design & Build

We love our kitchen! Paradigm Design and Build helped turn a 1964 original boxed-in kitchen into an open-concept modern kitchen in under six weeks. A kitchen renovation is a daunting task. After our very first meeting with Drew, we knew he was the builder we wanted to work with. He came to the meeting with great ideas and a real excitement for what our space could be. He was always on time and on budget. He helped with key creative decisions and flexed his own creative muscle to design and build custom-made key features for us. The central point of our entire main floor is his hand-built and designed butcher block countertop. A real eye-catching piece. Our home is now more open, more welcoming and we thank Paradigm for that.
Caruana Interiors & Contracting

I hired Caruana for the first time in 2010 for a basement reno and build out a legal suite. Neville and his team were professional, knowledgeable at navigating through city red tape, and focused on quality workmanship. Since I do not live in the same city as my properties, it was re-assuring to have a pro like Neville who was in constant communication with me on the progress and even sending photos along the way. I have since utilized Caruana's services on quite a number of projects, small and larger, including a major reno/repair job on a property acquired in 2014. While you can find a smaller contractor or handyman at lower prices, having done so my self a few times in the last few years, I have learned that you really do get what you pay for. WIth lower priced bidders I learned that quality is often compromised and communication (an important one for me) is lost, and if there is something I have been unsatisfied with I've had to chase down these 'handymen' to fix it, still not to my satisfaction. Neville stands behind his work and if I pointed anything out he typically had his team right on it. Caruana has remained my contractor of choice and I would recommend them to anyone one looking for a quality job with fewer headaches.

Randy McCoy, Retrofit Designs did a major renovation to our home. My wife started the process by contacting him a couple of years ago. After meeting with Randy, we had to put the project on hold for two years. This past Spring we are able to give Randy a call to proceed with our dream reservation. What was initially started as a kitchen tear out (taken back to studs) and total renovation, expanded to include renovated main floor powder room, ensuite tearout, total reconfiguration and renovation, & upstairs bathroom renovated. We worked with Randy, and Interior Designer, Rosalyn Lazaruk to put together what best suited the balance of design and cost. Randy and Ros putl together a plan that covered our wish list and budget. Timing was agreed with a 12 to 14 week construction schedule, Mid June through August. No renovation is fun. We planned to have alternative accommodation during construction though I did stay in the basement during some periods of construction. The other thing about renovations is that there is always something else. Our renovation cost was based on certain assumptions that were not the case when the kitchen was torn out. In our case, we needed to add a structural beam and post in the basement and kitchen. Randy can up with a solution that included having a structural engineer agree with solution and sign off on it. This could have been a very upsetting experience but Randy lead us through it with the best possible solution. As with all major renovations adjustments and changes took place. Randy's communication skills made this a comfortable experience. During the renovation, we added items not directly connected with the renovations (changing light fixtures in hall and basement), leveling of doors in basement, painting of living and dining room ceilings. All completed to our satisfaction. Randy's main crew, Derek & Jurgen are exceptional workers and were a pleasure to have doing the renovation. They were mindful about keeping the non construction areas of our home as clean as possible. There are always going to be differences of opinion. We had three issues, a kitchen faucet, the sub floor heating of tile in ensuite, and mirrors in the ensuite. These issues were discussed and corrected measures were taken to our satisfaction. Randy would invoice us on a bi weekly schedule with a clear schedule of costs broken down for materials and labour. Are we happy with our renovation? We are ecstatic over it and so thankful for Retrofit Design, Randy, Ros, Derek, and Jurgen. Highly recommended.

We first hired AmSteam to do a renovation on our main floor bathroom. The results were spectacular. We were so happy with the bathroom renovations, that we hired them immediately for the rest of the main floor renovations, including the kitchen. Both the bathroom and the kitchen were complete gut jobs. AmSteam came in on time and on budget. Their work was outstanding and they displaced exceptional pride in their quality of work. All of the workers were polite, accommodating and professional. They clean up after each work day and they arrived at the worksite on time each day. We are very pleased with this company. THere are two other smaller jobs which we will again hire them for sometime next year. You cannot go wrong hiring this company. They are in a class above anyone else that I have dealt with in the past. Well done AmSteam. Gerry & Paddy Hoyland
