Occasionally a client’s expectations exceed what is reasonable, and they believe that their understanding of the renovation process outstrips 60 years of experience. The client’s statement that we installed the vanity 11 inches below her desired placement, which is physically impossible, serves as an example of our experience navigating through this project.

The additional charges were because of Chicago Inspectors requiring additional work to meet the city’s code for electric. This additional work was done on a Time and Material basis, and we did not know the exact amount until the work was complete and billed to our company. We respectfully completed the project to the satisfaction of the Inspectors of the City of Chicago and to the level of professional excellence that we are known for.

Imperial Kitchens and Baths is a full-service remodeling company specializing in all aspects of the remodeling process. We pride ourselves not only on a job well-done, but the long-lasting relationships we develop with our clients. We are truly sorry that we were not able to bring this client happiness with their new kitchen counter; however, the client chose to not utilize all our services which were knowingly available to them.

Our original contract was to remove the old kitchen counters, then provide and install a custom laminate countertop, sink, faucet and hook-up the plumbing. Later, we agreed to install a sink and faucet the client found elsewhere for less money. However, this caused an issue when the first sink they bought was not compatible with the countertop. We attempted to assist the client in quickly locating a replacement, but they moved forward with purchasing a second sink on their own.

Once the old top was removed, it took a few days to fabricate the custom top to fit. During this time, the client chose to have an electrician, independent of our company, come in to repair electrical work they found once the top was removed. The client did not approach us concerning a remedy for any existing problems they had discovered.

The client’s electrician did not clean up after himself, nor did he reconnect various pieces of the kitchen he took apart while doing his work. Our installer now had additional work to do prior to installing the new counter, which we billed for at a discounted rate.

With all due respect, the client made this project more difficult by part-and-parceling the project. We are not responsible if issues arise that we have no control over, especially if they are not communicated to us. Nor are we responsible for other contractors the client opts to hire for other projects and we should not be expected to clean up after them at our expense.

When we neared completion of the full kitchen, we did have a few additions to the project and a few snags which caused the project to take a little longer than anticipated.
Like the client, we were not happy with the initial plumbing and we did come out a second time to rework it.

A short length of trim needed to be installed, after their floors were finished by another company unrelated to us. By the time they had finished, we were out of the project.

Also, we were not happy with the countertop. Even though the client was willing to accept it, we knew the end product should be more attractive and we insisted upon replacing it at our expense. It took time to make the new pieces, but during the wait the client was using their fully functioning kitchen. With the exception of these two issues, the project took less than one month to complete.

We acknowledge that the delay was longer than typical and apologize for the wait, but we felt that the investment they made was worthy of a job done well.
