Mr. Ward, KHI Construction takes complaints very seriously as we strive to do our best work on every job we take. It is also our policy to treat with respect and consideration all our customers because we truly understand that home repairs can be a very stressful time. While we wish that our customers treated us with the same respect and consideration, such is not always the case. Nevertheless, I believe KHI Construction did the very best it could under adverse conditions experienced at your residence.
I believe I read or heard that Hurricane Harvey caused damage to approximately 203,000 homes in Texas. Of these homes, the estimate I saw was that 12,700 were completely destroyed. Your home was not completely destroyed thankfully, but it sustained enough damage that you were able to receive the limits of your insurance coverage for repairs. If you remember, KHI Construction helped you work with your insurer to secure these policy proceeds. Also, if you remember, the line item total to repair the damage to your home was approximately $358,961.55, yet KHI Construction only received $220,000 out of the $250,000 you received. Basically, we rebuilt your kitchen and bathrooms for free. I will also note the new beautiful boat you purchased the same month you received your final Insurance proceeds. I mention these things because should someone read your complaint on the my HOUZZ website, they can see the broader picture.
Candidly, I am at a loss about this punch list
you talk about. If for some reason we missed something, please accept our apologizes. Hopefully, this punch list did not cause you too many problems and you were able to find another contractor to complete your punch list.
Hurricane Harvey hit us all. Some, such as yourself, more than others. For that, I am empathetic. It was devastating across the board. Many, many families are still out of their homes and do not know when they will be returning, if at all. Yes, KHI Construction was one of the lucky ones, but that was not the case for everyone that works or subcontracts for us. Some of them lost homes and vehicles. Some had damage that could be fixed. Some were lucky to stay relatively dry. My workers felt the same stresses and anxieties that you did/do and face the same challenges and then some. Remember, they leave their families every day to repair the homes of other people (yes, they get paid) and, for the most part, come home at the end of the day or workweek to a structure that they have to rebuild themselves. They have families to attend to and neighbors who need help. But they get up every day and go back to their craft and do the best they can under the immense burdens they personally shoulder. I know their problems were no more taxing on them as yours was on you, but your problems were no more taxing on you as theirs were to them. We are all in this boat together.
Nevertheless, we finished the job. Indeed, you kept $30,000 out of the $250,000.00 agreed on contract price. I believe that will more than cover the cost of your punch list. For my part, I will make sure my workers are advised of your complaints and hopefully, we will not repeat these indiscretions in future jobs.
