James, and his brother Tae oh, just completed a major (4+ month) project for us; creating a master bedroom and full bathroom from our old bedroom and a living room space, as well as remodeling and expanding our existing full bath, including replacing windows. It was a complicated project that required thoughtful planning and extensive coordination between themselves and other tradesmen and inspectors. Our house is older (circa 1950) and brought a few "surprises" when walls (and floors) were opened, etc. They dealt with these challenges with calmness and extensive knowledge and expertise that smoothed the process and allowed us to move forward with only minor disruption to the anticipated schedule. Changes to the original budget, brought on by the "surprises", and some modifications that we requested, were addressed immediately and fully disclosed. We are amazed and delighted with the results! The Kwon brothers are beyond craftsmen, they are artists! It was truly a collaborative effort, based on my original design, with much discussion and exchange of ideas resulting in a "the sum of the parts is greater than the whole" finished project. We can't thank them enough, or recommend them more highly.

We had James and his brother install a Murphy door and surrounding custom cabinets in our home - a fairly complicated build. Very pleased with their build!

When we were finally ready to remodel our master bathroom, we asked friends and neighbors for recommendations— that is how we came to Kwon Contracting and we are so happy to have found them. James and his brother, Tae Oh, do such an amazing job. This was our first major remodel so I was nervous. Picking out all the design elements can be overwhelming and I had lots of questions. Luckily, James really listens and will give his professional opinion which was very helpful. We also had to work within a tight budget so we could not afford to replace our tub or vanity top— but James was able to work within our limits and still create a bathroom we love. I actually think that working within such parameters takes more skill than being able to just gut the whole thing and start from scratch. In terms of craftsmanship, they do top-notch work. James did all the carpentry work while his brother did all the tile. They keep the disruption to your house to a minimum and clean up daily. James coordinated the subcontracting of the plumbing and shower glass installation which went like clockwork. If you want a professional, high-quality, honest, and thoughtful contractor look no further than Kwon Contracting. We would not hesitate to use them again!

James was amazing to work with - he and his team demonstrated impeccable attention to detail and we appreciate that they brought creative ideas/recommendations to our projects. We hired Kwon Contracting to build a bathroom in the unfinished space in our basement. From start to finish, they were always prompt in their arrival, professional in their work, and did an excellent job in communicating progress with me each step of the way. As a result, the final project is an absolutely beautiful full bathroom that makes amazing use of the small space that was available! I especially appreciate that they allowed a lot of freedom for us to choose pur design options, and they also were very mindful in maintaining a safe workspace and boundaries within our home for the sake of my (currently pregnant) wife. Excellent workmanship I knew when I moved into my home that I needed to update the Master Bath. It would be a big job with a complete remodel including a total demo, moving plumbing, re-wiring, and matching existing ceiling trim molding, etc. I kept putting it off for years because of the anticipated cost as well as the noise, dust, and destruction to the rest of my home (the Master Bath is on the second floor). At the beginning of this year, I finally started looking for contractors. I am ecstatic that I found Kwon Contracting. When James came to look at the existing bath and discuss my ideas, I was immediately impressed---he took his shoes off at the front door!!! He eased my worries about the workers scuffing up my hardwood floors by installing protective matting from the entrance door, up the stairs, to the bathroom. My floor was definitely protected! His workers included himself and his brother. I didn’t have to worry about “a crew” coming in every day. The demo work went fast. The clean up every day was quick and neat. And the dust was minimal!! The project took less than 4 weeks to complete. The attention to detail was incredible. I can’t see the seam between the old trim and the new. The floor trim molds around the leg of my vanity seamlessly. I’m so impressed! James and Taeo were always punctual, professional, quiet, and respectful of my existing home, my work hours (I work from home, and they planned their noisy times around my schedule), and my dog. James gave me an estimate and a time frame that he honored!!! He said it would take 3-5 weeks for the project. He was done in 4 weeks. He gave me a quote, and he stayed within that quote. Kwon Contracting completed a master bathroom renovation in our 1970's home last fall. He completely gutted our former bathroom and did a fabulous job. He went above and beyond. In addition to the bathroom, he added a master closet in our bedroom, which required a slight renovation to our bedroom and hallway. He creatively maneuvered the entire project. He and his brother are excellent at their work. In addition, they are kind and respectful. I would highly recommend them!

James and Tae Oh just completed a complete master bath renovation and two micro-renos of our other full baths. They are absolutely amazing to work with! From our first meeting and designing the space to the final finishing touches, they showed a professionalism and attention to detail that is noteworthy. They treated my home like it was their own, covering floors and furniture and cleaning up as they worked. Our ceramic tile floors have a patina to them and they took the time to lay-out the patina to look more natural. We did not use a designer for this project, and as the project progressed, they gave us suggestions based on their vast knowledge and experience in the industry. We couldn't be happier with the final results. See before and after images in photos. I HIGHLY recommend them for your project and will have them back for future work.

The Kwon brothers have become part of our family. We had three contractors come to price doing built-ins and closets in our 1820 house. Each wanted to build off site and, you could tell, thought the project was more of a pain then it was worth. James welcomed the challenge and thought it was imperative to work onsite. We live in Old Town where nothing is level and his work turned out exceptional. It was key to have James and Ta Oh build onsite to make everything work. They are precise, meticulous, and take such joy in their work. They welcome and encourage collaboration. James actually has a real eye for design and is very creative about the use of space. He worked with me to select the counter tops for our bar and the handles for our room. They went above a beyond to make everything perfect. After having work done at our house before where I had to work about quality of work and under-estimates, I didn't have to think twice with the Kwon brothers. They also arranged for electricians for us and I knew I could trust anyone they relief upon. They are coming back to do our bathroom and kitchen!

James and his brother clearly love what they do. They replaced 24 windows in our home. They are polite, attentive, fair in their pricing and considerate of all aspects of their work and the client's concerns. Their work is professional, clean and proper. I would hire them instantly for any further home projects we may have.

I have worked with James of Kwon Contracting on several projects around my home. I have a 100-year-old house and any remodel project planned is never straight-forward, as a result. Yet the expertise, confidence and exceptional communication of Kwon Contracting has never disappointed! Most recently, I had my main bathroom completely torn out to the studs and rebuilt. It is stunning! While we planned the layout and materials together, I rely on their knowledge and know-how in the decision process. Kwon Contracting did an outstanding job on our sunroom renovation project. We used them before with similar results on window replacements!

With Mr. Kwon's exceptional carpentry skills and experience, coupled with great and timely customer service, our project was such a great experience and will keep Kwon Contracting in mind for future projects. Literally just had an idea, and with much patience, he proposed several different designs, comments, feedback, and always got back to us with drawings to build our built-in media center cabinet and shelves. I would recommend him to anyone.

My husband is a General Contractor in the Washington Metro area. The renovation of a ca 1930’s barn and cottage on our farm in The Plains, VA required a local contractor with an eye for creative design and unknown structural conditions. We employed James Kwon of Kwon Contracting. James did an excellent job renovating our barn and a 2000 sq ft cottage next to it. The project had many design challenges and lots of unexpected issues: rotten beams, leaking sky lights, damaged wood floors, rotten exterior trim and board and batten siding. James has an extraordinary eye for solving design problems creatively. He is more than a master carpenter - he is a born architect without the official training. Kwon contracting handled all the trades involved in the project; carpentry, electrical, roofing, floor refinishing, etc.... We cannot recommend them highly enough. We will definitely call them again for our next project.

Kwon Contracting has been our go to contractor for the past 10 years. They have installed new windows throughout our house including the basement, wrapped the outside shutters in wood grain metal, created molding on the basement windows, installed a new sliding glass door and repaired wood siding on our house. We are extremely pleased at the precision, quality of work and cost. They are timely and come in on budget. We have received many compliments from our neighbors.

Hired James to replace trim, install door. The work was perfect. James has years of experience and is able to provide solutions that are cost effective. He valued our time. Renovations were completed just as he estimated. He also helped us with repairs required during our home sale. He is honest, experienced and professional.

Our relationship with Mr. Kwon stems from two recent projects. The first, a kitchen ceiling redesign. The second, the install and finish of 750 sq ft of stain-in-place flooring on two levels. In each instance Mr. Knon was very helpful with his expertise and vast experience while always put the customer's goals and objectives first.

Recently bought our house in Aldie, VA with unfinished basement. Luckily, we've landed a contract with them to finish the basement and add a full bath. It was a big project. We were truly happy for the great job they've done and completed the job way ahead of schedule. This Team ( James, Austin, Paul and Taeyou) were very creative, hard-working and very accommodating to every concern that we may have. As a testament, all County Inspection visits were completed without any issue and all mechanical, plumbing and electrical work was done right and with high quality County Standard. Their professionalism comes with each day of cleaning which is a Wow !! Our basement looks Awesome and the design details were really of top-notch quality. James and his brother Taeoh have done various projects at our home in Madison, Alabama due to a long-term family friendship. This review is for the largest project of extending our eating area and creating a beautiful screen porch space. The project required extensive construction expertise and coordination, as it moved a load bearing wall and required coordination with a few local professionals. James's strength is his ability to interpret design concepts into the best overall aesthetic solution. Additionally, this project was done with amazing speed at less 3 weeks, with some pre-work (demolition, materials delivery) and post-work (custom hard wood staining, painting) coordinated with local resources. James and Taeoh have proven quality and professionalism!

Many years ago, we wanted to add some details to our new house, so we hired a carpenter off of the internet classifieds to add some trim to our columns. Big mistake! His "work" was a mess, and we tried to get other carpenters in to fix it, but it was such a disaster that they wouldn't even touch it. Until James! We somehow stumbled upon him, and he came in and made the ugly work into a masterpiece. He went above and beyond what we asked him to do. So, fast forward a few years, we wanted to add a mantle to our fireplace. We searched high and low until we found James's contact information, and lucky for us, he was available to come back with his brother and take a look at our fireplace. Well, as you can see, he did more than create a new mantle; he created a work of art. He repaired the mistakes that the builders made behind the walls, and then he used his amazing skills to build us a wonderful mantle with space for a TV. His attention to detail is unsurpassed, and we had no complaints about the price and time to completion. He was also wonderful with our children, which is important when someone is working in your home for so many hours. He then helped manage someone to install new wooden flooring, and now our family room is complete. Thanks James!!!

James and his brother Taeoh worked for us during a four year period from 2011-2015. We owned a farm in Loudoun County that consisted of an estate home, three separate guest homes, a pool house, four car garage with apartment, and horse barn. They performed numerous projects for us such as re-tiling our pool house floors, renovating an entire guest house, adding a sun room to a guest home, repairing antique heart-pine floors, re-roofing our barn and two guest homes, and numerous smaller projects. In one instance, the fireplace in our MBR leaked for years after getting a new copper roof. NO ONE could fix it. James somehow found the issue and repaired it when the best professional roofers could not! Obviously, we were very happy with their professional skills and work. But even more, we appreciated their honesty, fairness, integrity, friendly manners, and their devotion to pleasing the client. We also referred them to our close friends and neighbors, and all have been likewise pleased with them. We moved away in 2014. But if I could have taken them with me, I would have. I highly recommend.

James and his brother, Taeoh, helped remodel my home, including: new open kitchen and family room (with all new custom cabinetry); new laundry room in garage; new bumped-out front entry way; large wrap-around porch; master and guest bath; all new flooring on main level; and considerable custom molding and finish work throughout (it's hard to find a good finish person, and James was top-notch). He was very professional and thorough, and I would highly recommend the Kwons for any remodeling job.

James has completed a number of projects at my home. Most notably, he installed 11 new Anderson windows, resided the entire house with hardy plank and installed a completely new master bathroom. With every project, he demonstrated great skill and attention to detail. He always went the extra mile - in several instances he discovered problems with the house, brought them to my attention and then fixed them. For example, he discovered water damage to the structure behind the original siding and rather than just install the hardy plank right over the area, he offered me a solution and took care of the problem. In the master bath,, he did everything beautifully! He reconstructed the overall space, installing a new tile shower, tub and cabinetry with mirrors. (See pictures) He did all of the plumbing. Throughout, James was cheerful and easy to work with.

James and Taeo Kwon Builders built a beautiful rear entrance with a mudroom closet, bathroom with shower and closet along with a covered patio. They finished on time and on budget despite numerous design changes along the way. They were flexible and accommodating. Their workmanship is superb. They use PVC boards for trim and Hardie cement siding that never has to be painted and will never rot. The tile in the bathroom and floors was laid precisely. They included extras such as a decorative niche and small closet for cleaning supplies in the bathroom and amazingly attractive finishing touches on the covered patio post.
