About Us
Since 1980, Penny Construction has been dedicated to the building needs of our clients. We consider ourselves “builders”, not “contractors”. We are a bit old fashion; the owner is a carpenter who still works with his tools, on all of our jobs. He has worked hard to become knowledgeable, skillful, innovative, and organized. Doug Penny is a problem solver. He likes working closely with people and understands that to do custom work, one has to be flexible and responsive as the projects change and grow.
So why hire a Contractor: We believe that building and/or remodeling a home is a process of turning hopes and dreams into something tangible.
Building a beautiful home takes a team of people including; a home owner, good architectural design, good interior design, and a good builder to turn everyone's vision into a tangible product.
A builder must be able to communicate with the homeowner, the designers as well as the tradespeople. Each speaks a different language and each has a different understanding of the outcome. The builder gives symmetry, a oneness, cohesion to the dreams and to the reality.
Today’s consumer has an almost unlimited amount of information and product choice. Understanding the who’s, the why’s, the what’s and how each piece integrates with and affects the other parts seamlessly, requires years of experience. The skilled, caring, hard working hands of seasoned craftsmen ensures peace of mind and project success.
We pride ourselves on making the process a great experience. Our main goal is to give you such wonderful service throughout the process, that you will miss us when we are finished and gone. We want you to be looking forward to having us back, even if it is just for dinner.

Doug Penny is superb! Does every job with the highest standards and quality. He and his team have been remodeling my home room by room over the last few years and currently doing the kitchen now. It is so nice to have someone who is fair and so experienced and knowledgeable in how things should be done. He’s fixed numerous issues that the original builder just left substandard. His wife is the perfect designer too
owning her own design business Eileen Shoener Designs. A perfect combination! And on top of all that they’re great people! I’m extremely happy with everything they have done.

Penny Construction is truly a GREAT firm to do home remodel. Doug Penny and his Team remodeled my master bathroom, installed new windows, fixed a deck and wall/roof leaks, installed gutters and down spots, installed a new kitchen sink, and rebuilt an area of my roof to stop racoons from living under a roof overhang, etc.. They were on time, courteous, cost effective, competent, and did an INCREDIBLE job! The cost was very reasonable and I will definietly use them again! Thanks Doug for helping me fix a part of our house and make it look great again!

Doug Penny provides excellent quality work for a reasonable price. His company completed our Bellevue house remodel on a tight schedule for us. His employees and subcontractors without exception performed high quality work. Doug was on site much of the time himself, working into the evenings and on weekends to help us meet our schedule. Doug is honest, fair, and personable. If I were to undertake another project, I would use Penny Construction.

We were fortunate enough to have Doug Penny do a major kitchen and bathroom remodel/addition for our home. In the planning stage of the project, Doug took the time to study how we would use everything in the kitchen and what we wanted to accomplish with the project. All of the work Is the highest quality. He even designed a couple of extra things: a cat door to an enclosed yard outside, and a high shelf for the cats. He took the job outside and finished a patio to compliment the kitchen. (he rescued our sweet little kitty when she climbed into the rafters). The cabinetry, countertops, floors, lighting...all are exceptional. One guest told us the kitchen looks like it belongs in a million dollar home. We feel that way too.

Doug Penny is a unique, dependable contractor. He is always on the job site, never leaving a "sub" to figure out his things should be done. He provides a very detailed estimate and has come in below budget on several projects completed with my company. He is knowledgeable about every aspect of construction and goes above and beyond to make sure things are not just "done," but done correctly. His caring attitude, skilled workmanship and ability to stay on or below budget makes him an excellent choice for remodels or new construction.

We were first introduced to Doug via the mail flyer. We were looking for someone to open up our stairwell going down to our basement.
After inviting Doug over for a bid and spending some time with us, we felt we were being interviewed as much as we were interviewing Doug.
After getting to know us and understanding our request, Doug submitted his bid. The bid came in slightly high but we felt we could trust him and his sub-contractor's alone in our home.
Not only did Doug do an outstanding job for us, he added some extra craftsman work that blended our existing molding with the new trim that need to be added. Doug makes sure his surroundings are covered and dust protected, and he does a great clean-up job.
When you hire Doug, you are buying insurance, you know the work will be done professionally, timely and right on, if not as much, on budget. There are no hidden costs. You are also hiring a piece of mind knowing the work will be done correctly.

I have worked with Doug for years. I was a partner in an architectural firm where he worked on several projects with us. When it came time to do some repair work on my own home I didn't even consider anyone else. Our living room chimney had to be rebuilt. He is a master craftsman, skilled in all aspects of construction. He is an honest and forthright businessman.
