We hired Stewart to design and remodel our kitchen. It was a large and involved project that included reducing the size of an exisiting fireplace, relocating the plumbing and electrical, tearing down walls, and raising floors.
There was a lot to do for this project, and we could not be more pleased with the results. The entire team was a pleasure to work with, and they handled every detail with grace and speed. We love our new kitchen and could not have asked for a better result. Thank you to the entire team at Stewart!

Remodeling is one of the most disruptive things you will do within the walls of your own home. Choosing the right remodeling partner is the most important thing you will do. And, setting your expectations appropriately.
Dust, dirt, moving things around, noise, and trades/crafts folks coming and going. And, if you have more parts of your house that you want to remodel, you may be asking if you should do it over a few years... or do it all at once. And, believe me, it is easier if you understand the disruption and prepare for it.
So, some advice...
Those remodeling TV shows… that is television. Reality TV has no bearing on your house or your project.
Next, walk through your house and make a list of everything you want to do. Look at the BIG and the small. All the way from “Remove that wall” down to “change that light fixture or switch.” Trust me, the “small’ is easier, cheaper, and simpler to do if you plan it all ahead of time.
Next, be prepared to make a LOT of decisions. Samples, pictures, and styles of what you have in mind can help. Ask your remodeling company early what types of decisions (colors, styles, wood, appliances, etc…) you will need to make so that you can start thinking about them early. Don’t be the home-owner that decides that a wall should come down and colors should change right as the painters are putting on the final touches.
Next, and most importantly, get a good remodeling partner. Not just a remodeling company. Or a single tradesman, but a remodeling partner that will be with you from start to finish. Someone you can trust and will be honest, open, and keep the lines of communications open.
We interviewed four remodeling companies, talked to their designers, reviewed proposals, met with their project managers, and did many walk-throughs. The 4th (and last) company we interviewed was Stewart Remodeling. On a referral from our neighbor, we met with Tom Stewart. He did not ask for a deposit or commitment before he visited our home. He listened to what we wanted to do and shared some ideas. Within a few minutes of talking to Tom, we absolutely convinced his company was the best fit for our project.
We did a pretty big project. We updated the entire first floor of the house and the bathrooms on the second floor. After we signed the contract and had our estimates, we started meeting with trade specialists and their project manager, Matthew. The provided us with a fairly comprehensive plan including milestones and what our expectations should be.
During the project, Matthew kept us apprised of what was going on, delays, problems, and the various phases of completion. Tom Stewart personally visited us a few times during the project to make sure everything was going smoothly. Our designer also visited few times after things got started to make sure that things were shaping up as she envisioned them.
During the life of the project (4 months), we had at least 15 different people working on various pieces including carpenters, electricians, plumbers, dry-wallers, painters, tilers, hardwood floor specialists, masons, and more. They were all polite, professional, and friendly. They all kept their work areas tidy, cleaned up at the end of each day, and tried hard to minimize the dust. (Dust is a fact of life during any renovation so prepare for it.)
We had very few delays, actually. A couple of days delays due to large snow falls and some delays because the granite company did not cut the kitchen counters correctly. But, we still finished ON TIME and ON BUDGET! For each minor delay, Matthew had a plan for ensuring we stayed on schedule.
Remember I said “walk around your existing place and take lots of notes?” Decide what you want to change / update / remodel early. We had several changes that we asked for after we started. We had additional ideas *after* we started the project. Stewart’s team cheerfully took those in to consideration and charged us for them (as expected), but they would have been cheaper / easier if we had done them ahead of time. (One example: we installed two doggie doors *after* they had finished fixing the drywall in two rooms. It would have been easier to plan that ahead of time by putting the doggie doors in and then fixing the drywall only once.)
In addition, we were replacing the windows and installing stucco on the outside of the house. We foolishly thought it would be easier to manage these projects ourselves so we started them before we contracted with Stewart. In hindsight, I would have turned it all over to Stewart. The price would have been the same and then I would not have to have managed the bad workmanship of the window company myself.
I strongly recommend Stewart Remodeling. They are professional, honest, and affordable.

We hired Stewart Deck and Outdoor to replace our old redwood deck. In comparison with other contractors we had bid on our project, Stewart was very competitive with their proposal. The quality and workmanship of the project was far superior to what I had originally expected. This is our second project with Stewart, and in both cases, we could not be happier with the outcome. The entire Stewart team is a pleasure to work with and we would not hesitate to hire them for any of our future projects. I highly recommend Stewart Deck and Outdoor.

It was such a pleasure working with this company. From the first day to the last day they were very professional but also a great group of guys to work with. By the end they all felt more like friends then people working for you.
We are so impressed with them we are waiting on the quote to get our bathroom done next.

Stewart just finished my fireplace remodel. Not only does it look great, but they also pointed out a few other things that needed attention in our new home and they fixed our door that wouldn't close! I'll definitely go back to them with future remodels.

We hired Stewart Deck and Outdoor to custom-build our sunroom and deck. They were a pleasure to work with . . . thorough, professional, and thoughtful. They worked closely with us, designing the project, checking on building codes, and adjusting when codes unexpectedly changed. They made suggestions for improvements to better meet our goals or stay within budget, while paying attention to our wants and needs with great attention to detail. Their workers were polite, thoughtful, and neat. They gave us a heads-up when there might be extra noise or dust, so we could adjust our plans, and if we couldn’t, they adjusted theirs. They rescheduled outdoor/indoor work according to weather, so little time was lost, rarely taking breaks. We trusted them with a key when we had to go out-of-town, and they even fed our cat. You couldn’t ask more from a contractor than what they provided. Our new sunroom is beautiful, bright and warm. We enjoy it every single day, even though it’s winter.

Stewart's Deck and Outdoor added a patio cover to our house. The project included an extension of our stamped and colored patio, and a built-in grill with cabinets and granite counter-top. The company matched our existing structure's colors, materials and roof lines so well that hit looks like original construction, not an "add on". We are extremely pleased with the quality of the work and the cost, and are enjoying the new outdoor living space.

We hired Steward Remodeling to remodel our master bathroom earlier this year. We are extremely pleased with the end result. From the very beginning they were responsive, positive and easy to work with. They responded quickly to our request to provide a quote and were very honest about their timeline to complete the project compared to ours. Being able to meet with their designer to select the materials was extremely helpful. Her experience made it less stressful for us. She was able to answer our questions, suggested additional/different options, and didn’t push us into choosing materials that would have pushed us over our budget. They arranged for their team to come over to the house to review the design plan to ensure everyone was on the same page. They offered insightful suggestions to improve the layout, function and even the cost of the remodel. Let’s be honest remodeling a home never goes as planned, it’s not like on HGTV and done perfectly in a weekend, but this is where we feel Stewart Remodeling excelled. The project manager was communicative not only about the progress of the project and of the schedule, including when the contractors would be in our home, but he was willing to discuss the issues that arose and worked to make sure the solution was to our satisfaction and within our budget. At times he even rolled up his own sleeves to keep things moving forward. Very impressed! The impact to the rest of our house during the remodel was minimal. They took extreme care to protect our carpet and floors and to keep the area clean and the tools and materials from spreading too far into the adjacent room. The final walk through was simple as there was very little that needed to be fixed, it was more like a couple of things needed to be tweaked.
Having Stewart Remodeling take care of all aspects of the remodel from the contract, to the design, to managing the contractors (demo, build, tile, plumbing, glass, etc) was the best decision we made with the remodel. We would not only hire them again but would highly recommend them to anyone.
Sincerely,
The Young’s

We are quite pleased with the bathroom remodeling done by Stewart Remodeling. The services from design to completion were outstanding. The project manager visited the site daily. The sub contractors were highly skilled, and there were no flaws in the construction. While we made some changes during construction the original completion date and budget were not affected. Communication was frequent and outstanding. The job site was always left clean.
This is our second project with Stewart Remodeling, a deck construction being the first. For the quality of the work and the adherence to schedule and budget, we highly recommend them. We are quite satisfied.

Stewartremodeling has done a exceptionally ️great job. My deck turned out exactly as I hoped. It was done with great attention to detail. Modifications were suggested during construction and I am so thankful these things were brought to my attention. The finished construction was even more beneficial to my needs.
All those involved with construction were excellent. Not only exceptional and knowledgeable in the trade but very courteous. All were meticulous with cleaning up the site everyday after working.
I would and have recommended Stewartremodeling to everyone.
