As the owner of Night Light, Inc, I have had the opportunity to work at some of the nicest properties throughout Chicago. I am truly impressed with the landscapes designed by John. John does not follow a common road in his approach to properties. He understands his client's thoroughly and develops the entire property to be unique and very special. Calming and a pleasure to enjoy, is how I read his customer's reactions. Never have I seen a boring detail in his work, but instead a refreshing approach to creating excitement in garden spaces. We have worked on smaller city spaces and country estates, where he has transformed them into meaningful islands of paradise. I give John my highest praises for jobs well done.”

    “The Hursthouse team patiently spent many hours developing a detailed and extensive renovation plan for our entire property. Major features of the plan included: --installing a brick paver driveway bordered by a snapcut limestone retaining wall --installing bluestone front entry walk and porch --rebuilding backyard bluestone patio and new courtyard area with water fountain and cast iron fence border --extensive landscape lighting both front and back --installing imported planter urns on pedestals --extensive tree & shrub planting, perennials & ground cover. The design added great value and enhanced our enjoyment of our property in ways we never anticipated. The entire Hursthouse team took great pride in their work and went to great lengths to make us very satisfied clients.”

    “We have had Exterra do two projects for our home. First was landscaping the front and side of the house. This involved stone work, plantings and a pergola. We were thrilled with beautiful design and the craftsmanship of installation. The plantings have thrived and after 10 years all the work remains intact. Two years ago, we came back to Pete to have a patio put on the back of the house. This was all brick work and Pete's design was great and worked perfect with what was existing. We had some settling on the patio and Exterra was out immediately to fix it and it is great. We love the work Pete has done with design and the guys doing the install were wonderful. We whole heartedly recommend Exterra designs.”

The architecture of my home, my needs, wish list and my abilitiy as a gardner were taken into account when the garden was designed. A large patio with seating, greenspace, herb garden, and shade trees was installed. Excellent work with beautiful results. Courteous crew left the area spotless.”

    “Sylvia's Landscaping was all around terrific. They were always on time and within a very reasonable budget. Her expert workers were polite and went a little beyond their job of a spring (and later, fall) landscape cleanup for a good size property with lots of garden beds. They knew pruning and the finer touches of landscape and plant care. I'd highly recommend them.”

    “From our first meeting with Tom Kusmerz, The Barn Nursery, we were sold on working with that company and looked no further. Through conversation and walking around on our property, Tom was able to create a hardscape design concept that we just loved. Our retaining wall was failing and we needed to redesign the whole thing. With his help we chose natural stone that blended well with our existing house brick and pool decking and gave us both the color and natural look we were after. Tom worked with our pool and concrete contractors so everything on our project was done in the right order and no one had to wait on someone else. With Tom's design on our retaining wall and how the base materials were installed, we were able to reduce the costs of our concrete decking repair by half of the original bid and we have a beautiful, natural looking retaining wall that will last forever. The crews working on our project from The Barn Nursery were great. I looked forward to their arrival every morning. They were neat, efficient, friendly and very hard working. I could tell that they really took pride in their workmanship and the job came out beautifully. My family and I look forward to their return in the spring to help us with our plantings. It was a truly great experience working with this company and we couldn't be happier with the outcome.”
