“I had so much fun working with Dawn! Our house sits on a wooded, acre lot that sat vacant for years. It was such a mess, but the previous owners had installed some very cool walking paths, rock walls and large rock sitting benches throughout the front. My husband and I spent our first years doing a lot of clean up, tearing out and cutting down. I found a lot of joy in working outside and getting my hands dirty, but it felt like an overwhelming task. I found Dawn through Houzz, and chose her based on the amazing reviews that were written about her! We had a long conversation about our yard and it’s history over the phone before our first meeting. What I needed was an overall game plan of how to tackle it and bring it back to life, making each of the beds natural while have continuity. Upon our first meeting, we walked and talked through the yard. And when I say yard, we had zero grass at this point. She listened carefully to what I wanted and how to make the most of what was already here. She quickly realized that her typical approach to designing (a drawing that had plants/shrubs/trees labeled for placement) for someone may not be the best practice for this space. So, she came and actually staked out plants, trees, shrubs and hard scape items for me to see after providing me with a list of what she thought would work best together through the colors and textures I wanted to add. We removed things as well as transplanting a lot of plants that were here or that I had previously planted to places that were better suited for their growing success. She had creative, interesting solutions that I LOVED and were a perfect fit for me and the design of our house. Dawn provided me with a list of plant materials to purchase with an estimate of cost along with how to care for each throughout the seasons. We immediately got to work with our contractor, and Dawn continued to consult with me on design choices as well as making some changes to the bed layouts, additions of other focal points that I wanted to add along the way as well as incorporating some additional trees and adding fescue to a large portion of the area. We made a lot of headway last fall, but there’s still more work to do which I am excited to tackle this spring! She actually talked through and taught me how to approach the design where I have a much better understanding now. Dawn’s service was impeccable! I only wish that I would have found her sooner where I could have saved myself from certain mistakes. Now that I have an overall plan, the gardening feels attainable now because I know what needs to be done. I’m so excited to continue building on her design plan and to make the exterior of our property beautiful again!”
