Michael Glassman & AssociatesLandscape Architects & Landscape Designers, Landscape DesignTypical Job Cost: $250 - 10,000
We provide custom award-winning landscape design and architecture featuring a problem solving approach. We design unique and functional outdoor environments including hard scape elements (outdoor kitchens, outdoor dining space, water features), plantings, and lighting.
We had moved to Folsom from southern CA, and had just finished building a pool and spa in our large backyard. We knew we wanted to radically improve the way our entire landscape looked and functioned, but didn’t know whom to trust with this responsibility or how to proceed. After running into several dead ends, I ended up attending a presentation by renowned landscape architect Michael Glassman. As soon as he started to speak from the podium, I was captivated by the before and after photos of his past projects. It was clear to me Michael listens carefully to the needs and desires of the homeowners first and foremost and then simply unleashes his considerable creativity to fulfill their goals. I was impressed that he showed projects of all sizes, not just the grandest and most profitable ones. Given Michael’s talents and professional experience, it would be completely understandable for him to avoid dealing with tiny backyards in condo developments and focus only on expansive properties in gated communities. Before Michael and his assistant Jody came to our home for a consultation, one of his staff mentioned in passing that I record everything he says during the visit on my smartphone. This was extremely useful as Michael spewed forth ideas one after another in rapid succession for over an hour, and I would have been completely overwhelmed if I had no opportunity to review everything at my own pace afterward. The architectural plans were beautifully designed and very detailed including 3-D projections which helped us envision everything. Homeowners of course are free to choose any contractor they so desire or even do some or all of the work themselves. Michael provided us with a list of contractors with whom their past clients have been happy and this proved very helpful. Because of Michael’s stellar reputation, each of these contractors know their work has to be done at a very high professional standard. So many people we know have had such bad experiences with their home improvement projects. There are unexpected challenges with every project and ours was no exception, but Michael Glassman and his entire staff were absolutely great to work with in every way. Our friends and family have been very impressed with how wonderfully everything turned out. As for us, we have often said to each other our property is now much more beautiful than we had hoped! We feel very lucky to have had Michael Glassman and his team guide us on our landscape remodeling journey.

Ron Roper is a pleasure to work with. He absolutely transformed our front and back yard landscaping. He knows plants, trees, rock walls, boulders, drains, artificial turf, shade overhangs, fences. He knows it all! It is reassuring to deal with someone knowledgeable, experienced and listens to his clients needs. Ron has the creative eye to visualize what landscaping would work, especially with our request for minimal maintenance, and work within costs parameters. His drawing plans are detailed and meticulous. He was patient through several revisions to keep within budget, and honest about what changes needed to be completed during the construction phase. As for the crew that brought the plans to life, they are also knowledgeable and experienced. They were timely, efficient, hardworking, and showed such pride in their work. In these times, that can be a rare attribute. I absolutely recommend Ron, and crew for any quality landscaping projects.

Executive Care Landscaping did a thorough, professional, clean job. We had them completely redo both our front and back yards. It wasn't inexpensive, but it was worth it. The owner, Arthur Naverette is a superb communicator: he listens, he thinks, he researches, he recommends. Arthur knows his plants, our climate and incorporates future maintenance into his plans. He has a keen sense of aesthetics. Arthur was flexible and incorporated a number of change requests as the project evolved. His crew of 3 was outstanding. They communicated with us well and they were flexible when they encountered unexpected challenges. They were prompt, thorough, personable and professional. They arrive on time and cleaned up before they left daily. They worked unbelievably hare. We were away from town for part of the backyard job, but were comfortable with them working without us being around. We've had some dealings with other area landscapers who were less than professional, polite, communicative - the opposite of Executive Care. We highly recommend Executive Care.

Ron Roper is a passionate landscape designer with over 35 years experience. His wife Sandy is part of the "magic" behind the scenes with her insightful input and ideas from a woman's perspective. We focus first on determining our clients primary objectives and establishing a budget to meet those objectives. Once we determine that we can be a good match to align those two together we can begin to provide our services for your project. Once we begin we are committed to persevere through the process until it FEELS RIGHT with each element & detail thoughtfully imagined before committing to construction. We turn dysfunctional, disconnected & tired spaces into meaningful, meditative spaces. We want you to come home and admire your home from the minute you enter your driveway until you finally relax on the chaise lounge and feel like you have arrived at your own personal luxury retreat. We strive to create continuity between your home & your outdoor living spaces. We develop key focal points across the landscape to be enjoyed from inside as well as outside. And we do so while maintaining function and beauty. Ron's experience in the field as a landscape contractor provides a unique perspective as a designer. It provides the ability to see how something will be built as the design is developed. Ron's goal is to guide you through the design process while honoring your desired budget; whether the project is to be D.I.Y., contractor installed or phased over time. Ron has been recognized and awarded nationally for his pool designs and has been a featured speaker for local landscape exposition events.

AJM Landscape Design StudioLandscape Architects & Landscape Designers, Landscape DesignABOUT AJM AJM Landscape Design Studio is a small residential landscape design and consulting firm located in Elk Grove, California. Founder Anthony J McClendon worked in various client relation management positions within the technology arena for 15 years before seeing the light. After undertaking a 2 year Horticulture and Landscape Design certificate program, Mr. McClendon started AJM Landscape Design Studio in 2003 (which includes it's first incarnation as WorldOne Land Design). However, AJM is also rooted in those long ago sun-filled saturdays mowing the lawn, weeding, and watering the garden; during a time in which kids actually did yard work. AJM is guided by 2 basic principles: 1. Landscape design is creative problem solving. 2. Customer satisfaction is key to our success. What sets AJM apart is that we begin and end with our client's vision. This commitment establishes a high comfort level that they are getting what they need for their outdoor space. Technology such as CAD, image rendering tools, and online collaboration software is used to facilitate the creation of the final product without losing focus on quality and service while passing savings on to the client. That final product is a high quality design that is essential to a successful landscape.
Amazing to work with and so patient. He accepted each of our changes and understood what we wanted. Anyone is lucky to work with him.

Brandon, Patrick and Hugo and his crew did an absolutely Outstanding job on our large backyard. I had a vision when we bought our home 11 years ago. Brandon helped bring that vision to light. I wanted drought tolerant plants and grass, hardscape, soft scapes, a water feature, electrical, lighting features and different focal points. Brandon understood my vision really well and it didn’t take long to get things going. The entire crew were amazing, fast, thorough, precise, professional and respectful. They really were the nicest guys. I actually miss seeing them all every day. You get what you pay for. They aren’t the cheapest. But they are the best. And it’s a one stop shop with them. They do it all. No need to have other subcontractors on the job which was Really nice. Their work ethic and professionalism is top notch. I honestly could talk about their work for hours. I highly recommend Bright Home Landscapes to anyone who wants a beautiful job done exactly the way you want by people who really do care.

Here at Cal Wild Landscapes we are passionate about creating drought tolerant and California native gardens that are innovative and contemporary in style. We envision gardens that balance place, identity and lifestyles. From visions for an expansive rural site or a detailed design for a compact home site, we strive to connect people to their space through listening, observing and discovering. We thoughtfully work with what is available to us on your site, trying to improve upon rather than manipulate. Every project is different but all connect us with the environment. …..what does “garden” mean to you? About the designer: My name is Sophie and I have spent my life falling in love with the CA landscape. I am fortunate to now share my passion with the world through designing your gardens and landscapes. I earned a degree in Landscape Architecture studying at UC’s on the coast and in the Central Valley.
Sophie the owner of Cal Wild Landscape Design is helping us design our dream backyard. She is also working with our pool contractor to make sure this entire process goes smoothly. Very easy to communicate with and has some wonderful and unique ideas to make our backyard a "magical" place to relax and entertain. I cannot wait to post my final review and pictures when our project is completed. The project is done and the pictures I am showing do not give it justice but Sophie is amazing and a true artist and professional!!!

From the initial design meeting with Paul, to the final click of the gate latch closing on a SPECTACULAR backyard renovation, we have been beyond impressed. Paul listened carefully to our needs and ideas, and designed a brand new patio on a hill we thought, for 25 years, was completely useless. We would never have seen the possibilities he created - and we honestly can’t believe it’s ours. In the evening, we wander out, glass of wine in hand, to our beautifully lit patio and feel exactly like we’re on vacation in the French countryside. Project managers Tracy, Nick, and Katrina; artisans Polo and Emilio, and every single set of hands that scraped, dug, filled, built, and lit our project were simply stellar. I can’t recommend Red Leaf enough, and feel so lucky we found them. Ten stars out of five!

Amber Hildebrand Landscape ArchitectLandscape Architects & Landscape Designers, Landscape DesignTypical Job Cost: $1,500 - 1.5 million
My intro into the world of landscape architecture started when my parents used a landscape architect to redesign our backyard when I was 12. I had no idea this was a profession, but the transformation in the backyard of their corner lot home was unbelievable. After an intro course into Landscape Architecture at UC Davis, my love for the redesign of outdoor spaces was renewed. I enjoy spending time outdoors; I love nature and the feeling of the earth beneath my feet. It became clear to me that this field was the perfect blend of both design and nature. I worked at landscape architecture firms in both the Sacramento and Napa areas designing parks, playgrounds, elementary, middle school and high school landscapes, high end residential, winery landscapes, small scale commercial and public plazas. After about 6 years of working in firms I started my family, studied and passed the licensing tests to become a landscape architect and then set off on my own in 2011 designing mostly residential front, back and side yards for medium and high end residential. I moved to Colorado in 2021 with my children to be married to and live with the love of my life. I occasionally design for northern California clients. My favorite part of this profession and my loose philosophy is that what I do is a fine balance between function, aesthetics and place-making. It also incorporates communication, good listening skills, and the ability to visualize spaces in 3D. What I find most satisfying is listening to a client's needs and wants and sitting down and playing mad scientist as I brainstorm and sketch out ideas. People ask me what style I design and my answer is that I think a good designer designs for their clients needs, not towards a particular re-occurring style. In recent times I have been focused on the public space, focusing on park and school recreation areas, most notably playgrounds, supporting quality lines such as Miracle Recreation, HAGS, Norna, Elephant Play, Trekfit, Poligon, Thomas Steele, UPC Parks and Softplay. I am designing and coordinating the creation of fun in the landscape for teens, children, toddlers, and even adults through my work with Miracle Playsystems and Churchich Recreation.
We used Amber for a total redesign of our front yard in Sacramento. We have a one car garage and needed a driveway design that would accommodate some extra parking. She came up with a design plan that met all our needs for the driveways, removed all the grass for a no-lawn yard, worked in the specific trees my husband wanted, and included a beautiful planting plan. The plants grew in beautifully. Neighbors frequently stop on walks to compliment the yard. We even received a card in the mail with compliments. Amber was great to work with--we met over Zoom as needed. Thank you Amber!

We used Dowson design for our backyard. Donna came up with great ideas that I had not thought of. The design and final project came out even better than I expected. We chose to have Donna oversee the project and I’m so glad we did. She helped us get estimates and met with the contractors throughout the project. We had a small problem with how the stone facing was turning out on a retaining wall. When I called Donna she came to our home immediately to talk to the contractor to make sure the wall came out right. I couldn’t recommend Donna and her designs highly enough.

Marcia Scott Landscape DesignLandscape Architects & Landscape Designers, Landscape DesignTypical Job Cost: $95 - 10,000.00
I help my residential customers make their existing landscapes thrive, and can design eco-friendly landscapes that take your California gardens sustainably into the future. I've spent 30 years in the landscaping trade, 18 years of it in residential landscape design. I started my design-life in the San Francisco Bay area, and moved to the county of El Dorado in the Sierra Nevada foothills 18 years ago. I feel fortunate to design among the natural beauty of this area and in my local community. The Sierra foothills provide a wonderful backdrop to create gardens well suited to this unique place. My services include residential landscape design, landscape and tree consultations, garden coaching, and young tree pruning. Our design or consultation topics might include advice on irrigation, specific plants, successful planting techniques, attracting (or repelling) wildlife and creating habitat, garden construction, weed control, water conservation and a watershed approach to the landscape, rain gardens, tree placement, tree and plant identification and diagnosis. Primarily we'll focus on how to help make your landscape satisfy you and your life while being good stewards of our California environment. Designs may include extensive plans for contractors or city planning requirements, or designed to meet the specific needs of DIYers. Designs may be as informal as sketches or plant lists that are informative enough to help a DIYer to install the landscape. The design package may also be customized to address your specific needs, including plant purchasing and project oversight. Please contact me today to discuss how we can transform your outdoor living space into a vision that enhances your life .
Marcia designed the perfect arraignment of shrubs and small trees that would grow well in our area. Her knowledge of plants and our local weather helped my wife and I sift through all of the choices that are offered at the local nursery. She spent hours getting to know us, how we garden and our likes and dislikes to offer the right choices that would "survive us." She also warned us about the plants that would not grow well in the area and didn't let us go in the wrong direction. I would certainly recommend Marcia for any type of yard design; meticulous, thorough, and detailed.
