“ResCom Landscaping Review Clients: Adams, Yorba Linda We are extremely satisfied with the extensive work completed by ResCom on our backyard redesign project. We are very experienced with completing complicated landscaping projects on our own yet the scope and desired completion date of this project meant we needed to contact out the job to a qualified contractor. After working for a year with a landscape architect to develop the plans, we interviewed and accepted project bids from three large landscaping contractors. We knew the project required handling very large boulders and many tons of other smaller rocks. It was not the standard basic backyard project and would require someone who either had matching experience or the demonstrated ability to bring skills to the project which would yield a quality finished product lasting for years. After lots of phone calls and detailed questions, we decided to work with ResCom Landscaping. ResCom was honest that they had not worked on a project exactly like ours but given their demonstrated skills, would have no problem resolving any issues which may occur. Their proposals on dealing with the movement and seating of the large boulders as well as the incorporation of other natural materials showed us their ability to handle our project. We knew going in that we wanted a contractor who would work closely with us as much of the details were to be fleshed out as the project moved along. We felt confident when we chose ResCom that they were the right fit and they proved that to be true. ResCom, throughout the project, continually showed that they were willing to work with us to provide the quality and detailed look we were seeking. Paul, the owner, and Tim, the project manager, brought their expertise and highly skilled team members to work on this project. If they did not have an immediate answer to one of our questions, they researched it and brought back solutions for discussion. They never responded with the “trust me” reply so often heard from other contractors. As with most large complex projects, not all goes to plan and changes and adjustments occur. How those “bumps in the road” are handled is what matters. ResCom responded quickly to any issues which arose and resolved them with a focus on providing a quality product for years to come. Throughout the 4 ½ months of the project, we developed a strong relationship with Paul, Tim, and their amazing crew members. They became part of our family. When the project was completed and they no longer appeared every morning, the backyard seemed so empty. ResCom is a wonderful organization full of people who enjoy their work and take pride in what they do. The project also required some subcontractors for engineering plans, the pool retrofit/re-plaster, garden house build, electrical, and painting. To meet those subcontractor needs, Paul suggested individuals who he had experience with and would be well qualified. He would then set up a time for us to meet the subcontractor to discuss specific details and confirm we were happy with their costs and qualifications. This was perfect for us as it avoided a subcontractor who might be a poor fit as we would also be working with them at times. Although ResCom, as the main contractor, was responsible for the subcontractor’s work as part of managing the project and insuring that it was completed within the projected time frame. ResCom personnel were on site every day. Paul and/or Tim arrived with their crew at 7 am to determine the overall scope of work. The task-specific crew members and crew leader were on site from 7 am to 3:30 pm every day and often on Saturday. No matter their specific job, all of the individual crew members took pride in their work, demonstrated a desire to work together with each other and with us. Nothing was done just to finish it up and move on but rather to provide a quality finished product. Given the project complexity, some changes and refinements occurred which resulted in agreed upon both debit and credit change orders. The project comprised a redesign of the all but the outside edges of a one acre backyard. The project’s initial focus was to retrofit a leaking older pool/spa and to reduce our water use by replacing extensive grass with hardscape and non-water use features. Much of the existing backyard was redone while leaving in place a redwood gazebo, a large tiered garden, the patio/barbecue area next to the house, both side landscaping areas, three small sections of grass, and all of the mature trees on the property. After working with a landscape architect, plans were completed which entailed: the refurbishing of a 1987 built pool/spa with granite veneer and large natural boulders seated within the coping edge; moving and replacing the existing basketball court; adding a 22’ x 22’ solid roofed shade structure with outdoor gas fireplace and connected new patio areas; adding a gas fire pit; adding a 10’ x 18’ garden house with granite veneer walls; adding over 160 linear feet of dry riverbed; and adding sidewalks to connect the features incorporating three bridges needed for dry riverbed crossings. The entire project was designed as a reflection of the High Sierras and as such involved over 52,000 lbs. of boulders ranging in size from 300 lbs. to 1800 lbs., 54,000 lbs. of granite river rock in 3 sizes, and 69 tons of pea gravel. We also incorporated natural granite veneer to face the garden house, the fireplace unit, the fire pit, seating wall, and pool back-splash. Flagstone, of the same type as the boulders, was used around the pool and pool coping as well as within the patio area under the shade structure. Both the shade structure and the garden house have a metal standing seam roof. This was a project out of the norm for a backyard redesign as it included so many individual components. It also involved such a large volume of owner selected rocks and boulders which had to be brought onto the property from the street while not damaging the existing landscaping close to the house. The long winding dry riverbed involved the placement of large boulders as well as the incorporation of five other sizes of various rocks in an effort to simulate a natural high altitude stream. Thanks to ResCom’s expertise, the final project came together beautifully and resulted in a stunning backyard that mimics the natural flavor of the High Sierras while providing us with additional outdoor features to gather together with family and friends. ResCom Landscaping’s willingness to “stretch” was the perfect choice for our needs and we would highly recommend them and their team to anyone.”

“We wanted to re-landscape our back yard after living in our house for 30 years. Having raised 4 children, we were looking to create an outdoor living room for ourselves that used more drought resistant, native plants. June was great to work with with. Her plan is beautiful and she recommended a fine contractor who completed the job. We are very satisfied with the plan and are happy with the outcome. June kept within our budget and listened to all our requests and concerns.”
