We recently hired Alterra Landscaping Company to redesign and implement our front yard landscape, and we couldn’t be happier with the results! From start to finish, Jeffery and his team was professional, creative, and detail-oriented, exceeding all of our expectations. The design they created was not only beautiful but also thoughtful, making the most of the space while perfectly complementing our home’s style. Their thoughtful design process is collaborative and they really listen to your ideas in order to pull out a vision beyond your dreams. One of the standout features is the stunning hand-cut stonework they crafted for our front walkway—it’s absolutely gorgeous and has become a true focal point of our yard. The lighting they installed has also transformed the space at night, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. We couldn't be happier with the extensive front yard landscaping work completed by Alterra. From start to finish, this was a thoroughly professional experience that exceeded our expectations.
Jeffery, the owner, was exceptional to work with. He took the time to understand our vision, offered creative suggestions based on his expertise, and provided a detailed plan that balanced aesthetics with practicality. His knowledge of plants, materials, and design was evident throughout the entire process.
The crew was punctual, respectful, and incredibly hardworking. They transformed our front yard over the course of the project while keeping the work area clean. We were impressed by their attention to detail and craftsmanship – from the precise grading and drainage solutions to the thoughtful plant placement and hardscape installation.
The communication throughout the project was excellent. Jeffery kept us informed of progress, addressed any questions we had promptly, and made sure we were satisfied.

Tyler Bigham worked with us from start to finish. He met with us and got our perspectives for concepts and then drew up the plans. We then tweaked the plans based on our vision for the project, Tyler’s incredible knowledge of trees and plants and then based on our budget. We really appreciated his ability to creatively achieve what we envisioned within our budget.
We then had to wait almost two months for HOA approval but Tyler stayed in touch thru the process.
Once the project started, the crew was meticulous and had incredible attention to detail. I was traveling when the project started and so I appreciate being able to make small tweaks once I got home. And, we were so appreciative that Tyler was very selective in choosing the boulders for the project going to five different places to find the right ones.
It was an amazing experience and we will use Alterra again when we finish out our backyard oasis!

Alterra recently completed a makeover of my back yard by installing a pergola complete with a lexan cover, lights and a fan; extending my patio; and adding artificial turf, ground cover, some hollies for a bit of privacy and landscape lighting. We got quotes from a few companies, but chose Alterra because Tyler really listened to our wishlist and brought it to life. He worked with us to stay close to our budget, and what was quoted as a 3-week project was impressively done in just 2.
We had a pretty sloped backyard with two different patio styles, and they transformed it into a beautiful, cohesive three-tier space. The top tier is a massive patio with concrete pavers. The middle level is now flat and safe for our kids to play, and we even added a mini putting green at the bottom. They also cleaned up and simplified the landscaping to make it much more low maintenance.
We’ve already used the backyard more in the past few weeks than in the last two years we’ve lived here. Huge thanks to Tyler and the Alterra team for their amazing work—we highly recommend them!

Alterra did a fantastic job on our backyard reno. I worked with Hayden, who was very detail oriented and patient with us (I changed my mind about the design a few times and increased the scope after the project had started). They replaced our old hardscape with Belgard pavers, installed new sod, and fixed our drainage issues (the backyard would flood if it rained heavily). But the most impressive part of this project was the planter box they created. We had a 50 year old brick planter that was falling apart, and they fabricated a beautiful, sturdy metal planter box using the existing structure as a base. The crew was top notch, and I really mean that. I've been through multiple interior and exterior renovations--the crew from Alterra was punctual, organized, cleaned up at the end of each day, and delivered exactly what was promised on time. We're very happy with how functional and beautiful the backyard is now and are excited to work with Alterra to redesign our front yard next!

We hired Alterra to design and construct a backyard pergola. Jeff Riddle was involved from start to finish. He provided great insight regarding design and construction and was mindful of the ongoing maintenance implications of the completed project. The project was completed on-time and within budget. Jeff was on-site daily during construction to ensure that everything was proceeding properly. We were able to communicate easily with Jeff and he was always responsive when we had questions.
We highly recommend Alterra for any similar project. We were so pleased with Alterra that we expanded the project scope to include additional landscaping on our property.

I cannot say enough good things about Jeff and the team at Alterra. We first reached out to him more than two years ago, and he came over, patiently listened to our dreams for our backyard space, and came back with a beautiful design. He was understanding when we had to delay the project’s start, and then, when we were finally ready to begin, was happy to update his gorgeous design completely as our needs had changed.
Throughout the project Jeff went out of his way to make sure he was communicative, made adjustments we requested on the fly with a smile, talked us through the financial implications of decisions we were making, and handled the bureaucratic red tape of building a new structure with aplomb.
All of the above is wonderful, but the best part is just the finished product. The love and attention to detail that the Alterra team put into every aspect of the build is so completely evident. I worried that I was obsessing over minute details, but there was Jeff, obsessing over them with me, a true partner in making our dream come to life.
I endorse the work that Alterra does wholeheartedly, and can’t wait to have them back to reimagine our front yard next.

Beautiful design, highly responsive contractor, and great work crew (many of whom are true artisans)
Alterra’s Hayden Davenport was our general contractor and was wonderful to work with from working on the final design to immediately fixing the glitches that arise on any project. We have worked with many contractors as we slowly renovated the inside and outside of our 35 year old home. Alterra is the best. This is a design/build firm that delivers a totally turnkey result… if you hire them, there won’t be any little cosmetic issues that the customer is left to resolve. Hugo’s work crew did beautiful stone and tile work that elevated the great design that Hayden provided. We highly recommend this company to create a gorgeous landscape.

We had an amazing experience with Alterra! Tyler was the easiest contractor we've ever worked with. He and his team worked quickly but with an eye for detail and good craftsmanship. He was great about checking in on the project and with us and things moved along.
Our backyard went from a half grass/half mud mess that even the dog didn't want to hang out in, to an incredibly beautiful outdoor space with enough room to play, eat, grill, and hang out.
We weren't sure what we wanted and Tyler did a fantastic job of guiding us through the options that would work for our space. We are thrilled with our new patio, pergola, outdoor kitchen and landscaping.

Jeff and the team at Alterra are amazing. We wanted a total remodel of both our front and back yards, our outdoor space was not inviting or appealing and did nothing to complement our home.
After meeting at our home and listening to what we wanted, Jeff developed design plans that nailed the style and feel we were looking for. The build process was incredibly smooth. The crew members are craftsmen with great attention to detail and pride in their work. Hardworking and efficient, a number of neighbors went out of their way to tell us how impressed they were with the crew! Jeff touched base with us daily and was on site throughout the build. This was a big project - demo, yard grading, hardscaping, turf, trees, shrubs, lighting, water feature, etc and everything was completed to perfection in two weeks!
Jeff is great to work with, excellent project management and so creatively talented. His executed design vision perfectly complements our home and our style and has totally transformed and elevated the look and feel of our home. Our living space is now expanded to include our gorgeous outdoors. We are thrilled with our results and highly recommend Jeff and Alterra!

We have been very pleased with Alterra! They are a customer-centric, high-integrity firm. From the initial consultation, through design and construction, Jeff Riddle was a real pro. He was always available for questions and new ideas, and over-communicated with status updates. The design process was seamless. Alterra offered great design suggestions and digitally rendered the progress, bringing the back yard design to life! Through multiple iterations, Alterra was patient and updated the design to reflect our changes and ideas. When construction began, Jeff's team worked professionally and quickly to meet the schedule. The workmanship is absolutely top-notch. There were a few punch list items that Jeff took care of, that he did not have to - which was greatly appreciated. Alterra and our project designer Tyler Bigham were amazing from start to finish. Our new home backed up to the woods, so we wanted a large deck and bar with an outdoor kitchen and covered pergola. Tyler had extensive knowledge of the building materials needed and the plants for upgrading the landscaping front and back. He provided 3d renderings of the project, and took care of everything - construction, landscape, sprinkler re-routing and beautiful lighting for the deck and the landscape front and back. The crew was remarkable - always on-time, efficient and hard-working (thanks Hugo!). The whole project was finished in about a month, which was great! we are tremendously pleased, and our friends and neighbors are impressed as well. Both Tyler and Alterra obviously have a great deal of integrity, and that is rare in today's world. Thanks again Alterra, our home is now a showcase in both the front and back - we love it!

Alterra, Jeff and his team did a phenomenal job on our complete renovation and redesign of our front yard. Jeff was involved during the entire process -- from initial meeting, to design brainstorming, to HOA submission, to completion, to occasionally checking to make sure everything is still in order after completion. Jeff is very thorough and helped ensure we had everything necessary for City and HOA approval.
A little overview on this project -- My front yard has a substantial slope, causing runoff and soil erosion. As a result, we had foundation damage and required 19 piers (which, through digging under the house, completely tore up what was left of the front yard landscaping). I called many companies with a vision of a modern, tiered/level design to keep from future erosion of the front yard. Many companies balked at the idea as over the top. However, Alterra Design and Jeff were open, on board, and helped design our new 3 tiered front yard. Our front yard and house now look amazing and is one, if not the best looking landscapes in Sachse.
I highly recommend Alterra.

Kristen, this project was unique and challenging and the results are exceptional. The project was recognized by Texas Nursery and Landscape Association as an award winner in 2023. You guys vision and design guidance was the key ingredient!
Alterra did an amazing job on our back patio. The team came out to to look at our existing patio and made excellent suggestions for how to improve it to turn it into a true outdoor living space. This included tiling the floor, expanding our outdoor kitchen to include a larger counter, vent hood, mini fridge and trash drawer, as well as installing an outdoor fireplace and built in storage bins. Everything turned out beautifully and everyone involved did excellent work. We receive compliments all the time. The work was done as quoted - no surprises - and in a timely manner. We worked with Tyler who was always responsive, reliable and enthusiastic.

The experience we had with Alterra was top notch - from my first call with Hayden Davenport all the way through to the final project and followup. After a complete home renovation, our landscaping project was a full front yard redesign and custom landscaping to accent the new home exterior.
Based on our input and likes/dislikes, Hayden created a beautiful design which we loved and didn’t make one change to (we usually make many adjustments to designs - it wasn’t necessary with Hayden’s design). Because we live in a large community, Hayden handled the required approvals from the Home Owners Association which was very helpful.
The installation took about three days and the installers were experts that operated with care and cleanliness. All the plants were quality plants and are thriving. The followup has been quite impressive; all questions I’ve had about caring for the lawn and plants have been thoroughly answered.

Jeff and his crew did an amazing job on our landscape. We worked together on the design, Jeff let me pick out all the plants and trees at the nursery, and the installation crew had it all planted in 2 days, including hardscapes and a firepit (unexpected add to the scope!). The best part was that they set all the plants out in place per the design (not planted, still in pots) and gave us a day to study and see if we wanted to move or change anything. You can't really tell how the spacing, plant height, & color combinations are going to work until you actually see it in place. They want you to LOVE your landscape, so they are very accommodating and understanding with changes. They programmed the sprinkler system to adequately water the new landscape, and 2 months later, all my plants look great! It was the easiest home improvement project I've ever had, and I get tons of compliments.

Where to start?! First, I am a known killer of plants so it was really important that I had a yard that required low maintenance and skill. Earlier this year I approached Jeff about helping us with our yard. Over the last couple of years several plants in the front yard had died. We were also having some rainwater runoff issues. Jeff and I agreed on a budget based on other similar projects he had done. He produced drawings based on our wish list and his expertise. He modified the plans until we were happy. The removal and installation crew was friendly and hard working. We felt like they worked quickly anddid an awesome job. The result is that our front yard is beautiful. My biggest issue with landscapers is that they didn't listen so when I first contacted Jeffrey that's what I told him. He not only listened but has become a family friend. Their work is beautiful, professional and they spent a huge amount of time with us reviewing drawings asking us questions to make sure they got it right. They stand behind their work. I was invited to go out to wholesale nursery and actually choose and tag plants. It has been amazing from start to finish and we are now ready to do the backyard. Working with Jeff and Alterra to transform our front landscaping was a delight, and the results exceeded every expectation we had of how the finished design would look. His selection of plant sizes, colors, and varieties were terrific. His use of boulders and river rocks were the perfect accents to the project. Jeff was easy to work with, explained the care needs for each type of plant, and 6 months later it looks like we have always had beautiful landscaping. Our son worked with Jeff on landscaping his home recently and the results were equally stunning. We heartily endorse Jeff and Alterra.

Jeffrey Riddle and his crew were excellent to work with. From initial consultation, through the design process, demo, install, etc we were very impressed. They work very hard to make sure things are done right, beautifully and to your complete satisfaction. I would highly and without hesitation recommend Jeffrey Riddle and Alterra if you have a large landscape and/or outdoor project.
