Repeat customer! I hired Ann Johnson for a design and installation project 20 years ago on a large property in the country. She remastered my outdoor living and gardening spaces into a breathtaking landscape. Fast forward 20 years, and I sought out Ann to design a Charleston-style courtyard garden for my condominium in Atlanta. Based on my previous experience, I knew that she would be able to work with a small area and achieve our mutual vision of a low maintenance, evergreen, bird loving, shade garden. In addition, drainage issues were mitigated, and hardscaping was installed with artisan-level care. Please see the photos of my new slice of heaven.

Ann is a great landscape designer that brings creative ideas to your project. She transformed an unusable space that was full of erosion problems into one of my favorite entertaining spots in my yard. Listens to your needs, mindful of the budget, drives the timelines, excellent communication.

Ann Johnson is the perfect balance of creative design, experience, professionalism and execution ! She transformed almost every corner of our 20 year old property. Ann designed beautiful drainage options, infused new plants and boulders to match some of our 20 year old landscape and completely reconfigured, designed and created a serene waterfall landscape from what once looked like a stone burial mound. Our waterfall area is now able to withstand the GA summer heat and salt water. Her meticulous attention to every detail and her immense knowledge and experience of design and plants is evident in the final result. She exceeded our expectation and we highly recommend her!

We chose Ann Johnson Design & Landscape to design and install landscaping for our new home, after receiving several other proposals. We were seeking a comprehensive design for our backyard, and a redesign of our front yard. The initial landscaping for our front yard had been installed by our builder’s landscaper, and our large sloping backyard had no plantings. The design plan for our lawn and garden areas needed to address the multiple drainage issues on our sloping lot. From the outset, Ann worked with us to create a beautiful and unique design which encompassed our needs and preferences, and was within the budget we had set. The work involved regrading the backyard, installing hundreds of plants, and installing several attractive and functional dry creeks and a rain garden. Ann collaborated with us throughout the entire installation process to address concerns and any alterations to the plan. Her crew was always professional, hardworking, and polite. Ann’s knowledge of horticulture and her experience regarding the selection and placement of plants and the use of color is nothing short of exceptional. The result is truly extraordinary, and we now have a gorgeous garden and yard we can fully enjoy!

My peaceful oasis almost overnight was gone. I truly couldn't see a way out, but Ann did. I had a large "garden" area that had totally gotten out of hand. Every year, I added new plants, bulbs whatever caught my eye but there was no overall plan. I didn't know what plants would work best in my shady environment and the result was lots of struggling plants and lots of weeds. It was a disaster. I needed a professional that could take my space and create a design that was natural, easy to maintain and lovely to look at. Ann took a lot of time to assess the environment, understand what I wanted, make lots of suggestions and work in my limited budget. She repurposed lots of the plants and materials that I already had on hand and added a creative but functional plan. The results are outstanding. I highly recommend her work. “Over the years I've used Ann Johnson Design for several landscaping projects. Her knowledge and expertise in horticulture and all aspects of landscape design is truly impressive. Recently her team reworked my front walkway area. There was a drainage issue where excessive rainfalls were causing water to intrude into the lower level of my home. The water issue has been solved by changing the landscape slope and contours, putting in a new gravel walkway with underground drains and diverting the water off the driveway with ground covered berms and stone edging. With the addition of new plantings that work in both high shade and full sun conditions, I now have a fantastic front yard that is both functional and beautiful.”

Ann is amazing. She was very budget conscious and did an amazing job transforming my yard. I learned so much from her about plants and how to care for them. She really took the time to make sure I was getting what I wanted and that I would have the knowledge to maintain everything once the project was finished.

The backyard to my new home was a very large empty slate. I had general ideas of what I wanted the end product to look like what was overwhelmed by the number of details it would take me to get there. And spend time with me on several occasions listening to what I wanted what my style was like some of my favorite flowers and colors and with that information she put together a beautiful design. As the project progressed I could see her vision more and more. Today ANN and her team finished the project and I couldn’t be more satisfied. And is very punctual very knowledgeable and she could be appropriate Lee challenging when necessary. Ann was great to work with, she communicated well and her workers were great. We encountered some drainage issues which she was able to resolve which was exactly what we needed. I really enjoyed working with her, she spent time looking over the yard and discussing ideas and plants. I have tried other landscape designers in the past but never found one that I thought understood what I really wanted. Ann was able to take my ideas and create the perfect backyard for me. Vision, Planning, Execution and Follow-up ... Ann is the total package with outstanding capabilities in all these areas. She began by spending time with us and our property ... learning what we wanted to accomplish but very collaboratively adding her 'special sauce' to our thoughts and ideas. We were consistently impressed with her new ideas ... ideas that we would never have thought of to improve and enhance our original vision. Our goal was to create a vibrant living space that wove into the casual appeal of our cabin near Lake Allatoona .. .to bring the outside in. She helped advise us on our screen porch, patio, fence and hot tub area and her hardscape work beautifully blended this patio with a set of boulder stepping stones down to a very fun and practical fire pit and grass play area. She expertly moved soil to create this play area and added another set of entertaining boulders for our grandkids to explore as they walk down from the driveway. Ann's expertise goes well beyond the design and execution of compelling hardscapes. She has an amazing knowledge and understanding of plants and their growing requirements. She incorporates this attention to detail into making sure that we were very pleased with both our initial starting point and the foundation for the future these plantings create. What do you do with a north-facing, sloping, corner front yard on a busy street? Our sixty year old brick ranch has a carport that has always been the only door anyone ever used. The front entryway was dark, narrow, and totally unwelcoming. After a makeover of the front entrance where a porch was added, the landscaping looked even worse by comparison. Then we found Ann Johnson! Such a joy to work with someone who will listen to your story, then figure out who you are, and what kind of landscaping will work for you, in the particular space that you have. It's a gift. I loved Ann's work that I saw online but I didn't think I could afford her services. But Ann was able to do everything and more that I asked for within my budget. She is very knowledgeable about native perennials that are beautiful and easy to care for. She far exceeded my expectations and designed something I could have never come up with on my own. Ann did a great job on our backyard. We contacted Ann asking her to help us with a couple of bad erosion/drainage issues that had our backyard a muddy, ugly mess. Ann was professional and detailed throughout, from the first meet and greet through project pictures and drawings through the completed effort. Ann and her team did an amazing job on my backyard makeover. I know that my project was relatively small compared to some of her other work, but I never felt that way. The time she spent to consult with me, really understand my vision and budget, make suggestions, and even tell my why my own ideas may not be the best for my space was invaluable. Ann and her team did a wonderful job on our steep sloped backyard. After the first landscaper that we quoted with recommended 400 bushes of juniper, we knew we would rather work with someone like Ann who had expert knowledge about every plant imaginable and could create an artistic design without us having to ask for anything specific. She has been in the business for a long time and it really shows in every aspect of her work. Her pricing was very fair, especially considering how rare it is to find someone with her expertise; and she had all kinds of ideas and options for us so that we could stay within our desired budget. Ann was really a joy to work with. Our back yard was a messy mud fill of nada. We had 3 goals prevent the dogs from bringing mud in the house, make this backyard decent and oh we have a BUDGET. Ann did all 3 in great fashion. I recommend her to those who need great vision and she does it with in your means.

Ann did a great job converting a children's play set area into a beautiful curved stacked stone wall and oval patio. We have a sloping backyard. So she also added stone steps from the patio up to and over a dry creek bed which we love. Ann is very knowledgeable about plants and her guidance and recommendations factored in native and low maintenance plants. Ann has very creative design ideas and she offered options keeping in mind our budget constraints. I highly recommend her services and we will use her again.

Ann Johnson redesigned our sloping back yard that had been terraced with crumbling railroad ties into a woodland garden in progress. The stonework walls were amazing, along with a stone bench that I am working to surround with early crocuses. She also engineered a channel to take water away from our path and go where it's needed to the shrubs. Our front yard, which she also designed as low-maintenance, has garnered many compliments from neighbors. She also worked with our budget to provide plants that would fit it, and recommended work in stages.

I tried for years to improve the landscaping in my front yard, but was never fully satisfied with the results. When I called Ann, at the recommendation of a neighbor, I knew immediately she had the architectural expertise and design eye I was missing. She was a pleasure to work with and listened well, integrating my desires for color, natives, and pollinators to create a bunch of lovely "micro climates" in my front yard. I love how it turned out and I plan to call her as soon as I can afford to landscape my backyard!!! She is the best.

My husband and I hired Ann to design our large backyard to accommodate dogs, visually consist of complementing trees and bushes, and place emphasis towards future backyard entertainment spaces. We love our backyard now!! She helped us utilize existing concrete to develop a stone-like terracing area. We love the fact that she is a conservationist at heart. Since 2007, Ann and her team have helped us with several landscaping challenges. The biggest project successfully resolved multiple drainage issues (the impetus for the project) and greatly improved the aesthetics and functionality of our landscape and entranceway through the use of hardscaping as well as softscaping. She is a talented professional who is all about helping clients create their own special outdoor spaces, with respect for their preferences and budgets. For example, my personal goals include landscaping for birds, and she helps me accomplish that. Once she even volunteered to discuss a delicate property line issue with one of our neighbors, acting as our buffer and resolving the situation with tact and sensitivity. If you want, she will take the time to answer questions and to explain the reasoning behind certain design and plant recommendations. I have learned a lot from her. She not only does a great job, but is fun to work with and has definitely become our go-to person whenever the mood strikes us to undertake a new project (and the budget is willing). We have learned the hard way to avoid contractors who cannot muster up some enthusiasm for a project, and with Ann, we always know that she's going to be just excited as we are. The bottom line is that we highly recommend Ann for her professional skills, personal integrity, creativity, patience, and her enthusiastic approach to projects both large and small.
