David did a challenging project for us in Santa Rosa, CA. We wanted to landscape only part of our 2.5 acre property, but wanted to have it look natural and blend in with the unlamdscaped area. David was practical, creative and attentive to details. Our landscaping is beautiful. David was respectful of our budget and always looked for ways to make more out of less. His plant and hardscape choices were excellent. I highly recommend him.

We hired David to help us with two projects. First, a guesthouse we remodeled and needed to landscape where he designed a simple cottage garden that suited the house design and setting. Next, he designed landscaping for our new house construction. He incorporated the design of the house and site location into the landscape design and we couldn't be happier. We built a modern farmhouse in the Sonoma hills where we are fortunate to have sweeping views. David's design enhances our views rather than interrupting them with overplanting or overbearing hardscape. We were specific about what plants we liked and he came up with ideas that suited us perfectly. He was eager to find us a tree that would provide the color and canopy we were looking for and gently steered us away from trees which would be prone to problems. We recommend David highly, he's one of the most professional and talented landscape designers we've worked with.

David Solmes did an incredible job of transforming our backyard into an oasis. Perfect for entertaining, relaxing or just escaping a busy day. He took our rough ideas, and turn them into the backyard of our dreams.
What made our project even more challenging is that David had to coordinate the efforts of three outside contractors that we had hired prior to starting the project with him. David is professional and his follow up is impeccable. David delivered above and beyond our expectations! I highly recommend him.

I hired David Solmes to design and oversee construction of our project in conjunction with company he worked for in Sonoma
David Solmes designed and built us a beautiful arbor and rose garden in Sonoma. He took our basic wishes and turned them into something that opened up our landscape and created a beautiful and visually spectacular outdoor room for us. He thought about sight lines and seasonal variation in plantings...we couldn't be more thrilled.

David was professional, knowledgeable, creative and incredibly responsive. We finally got to a point after 20 years in our home to overhaul our front and backyards. David patiently worked with us and handled every single detail from start to finish. Our flagstone patio, thoughtful plantings and lighting is EXACTLY what we dreamed of. Not only do we enjoy being in our yards...... we get to enjoy looking out the windows at them.

David Solmes is extremely professional and organized. We gutted our backyard and added a pool, pool house, putting green, landscaping and fire pit. David created a beautiful design for us. We had prior drainage problems and his design solved all of our issues and gave us the functional and beautiful backyard we were looking for. He was detailed, prompt and flexible.

I was so blessed to have found a landscape architect who respected the fact that I have two black thumbs and wanted NO plants...just an industrial zen feel. I got it and much, much more! David is so flexible, reliable, honest, and hard working that I feel Sonoma has lost a fabulous talent. I know that folks in Austin are lucky to get him. You can see the early part of my project under David's "Private Residence #10" on his houzz site.

David Solmes is amazing! He worked with us when we were unsure what we wanted, and got us to a result we could never have imagined ourselves, especially with the size yard we had.Our friends nicknamed it THE backyard and said it felt like a resort by the fire pit at night. Not only is he a great designer, he was on time and on budget, always looking out for our best interest. Honest and a great guy, would never use anyone else.

I was fortunate to work with Cultivate Landscape design on a small residential project in San Diego. I was the builder for David's simple, compact modern solution for a small space. His deck and custom bench design utilized simple materials which kept the cost in the clients budget - everybody wins when that happens. His design and drawings were easy to understand and build. The design really made a huge impact on a small unusable space.. In the end the clients were thrilled with project. I would highly recommend Cultivate Landscape design for your next outdoor project!

We interviewed 4 different design/landscape services. We went with David because we liked his easy going demeanor and he had some great ideas in our first meeting. He was up front about what to expect when working with him on design and cost. He gave us about 4 or 5 options when it came to our front yard design and then we honed in on one of them. We tweaked it here and there and ended up with something we love.
We now have a construction drawing that we can work with. We have not started the actual construction yet. We will utilize David's expertise when we start that phase.
David is honest, dependable, creative and a pleasure to work with.
